As a Windows-only user for nearly my entire life (minus the DOS/Win3.1 years), I was actually looking forward to being forced into using nothing but Linux in my Computer Science classes. Windows has so many things I hate, and I have heard such good things about Linux.
To my disapointment, when I went into the *UNIX side of the computer lab at the start of this semester, I had noticed that they had upgraded from some pure-UNIX OS to Red Hat 8.0. I figured "oh well, *nix is *nix." The first time I logged in to GNOME, my first reaction was, "Holy crap, this is windows!" Then it began to sink in, the GUI is too much like windows. This was good for all the Math Majors who are required to take CS202, but for everyone else--EE and CS Majors--it seems pretty useless to have such a developed GUI that discourages people from learning handy terminal commands (atleast in a timely fashion). Sure the GUI makes it an easy transition for me, but I know that 'an easy transition' isn't going to help me in the long run.
One man is not attacted to the same exact things as any other man, whether it be a woman's face, eyes, legs, or other part of a woman's body. So before people start using this thing and taking it seriously (in other words PLEASE take what it says with a grain of salt, ladies...and some gentlemen too.:) ), remember this is just someting generalized to work in most cases for the masses. After all, we are human, this thing is not.
True. That's the same reason that the US Whitehouse owns www.whitehouse.com
He's right you know...last I heard Bill Clinton was the mastermind behind whitehouse.com.
It's been a long, tried and true tradition with most TV shows: the episodes int he early years are better than those toward the end of it's 'lifespan'. On that list of the Top 25, only one was in 200x, and very few even after 1997! Most of the best episodes (both in numbers and in rank) were from 1993-ish and before.
They just don't get it...

The RIAA isn't going to understand the changing face of the music business until it's too late for them. Their methods of attempting to stop online file sharing is parallel to that of what was happening around the turn of the century with the automobile. Buggy whip manufactures were trying to get laws passed that stated if a carraige didn't have a horse infront of it, it was illegal. For obvious reasons, they did this to avoid being pushed to bankruptcy.
The same is happening right now in the RIAA and the music business in general. Instead of cheapening CDs and focusing more on other products that can't be downloaded off of the internet, such as T-Shirts, Concerts, etc., they're attempting to stop the inevitable.
See, everything was going good, then Acturus had to send Kerigan down to get killed...now she's back as a Zerg and has pissed Tassadar off...this won't end well.
Adobe owns the market for easy viewing, cross-platform files. Their viewer is free and comes with all of their products, and is the industry standard for help documents on disks.
Mircosoft will be starting anew with no users, and only people who purchase Office 11 will be able to create XDocs files, so it will be slow to catch on anyway. Because this is a relatively new field for M$, they probably won't have the best execution of making these files anyway...we all know how crappy they are at making good user interfaces anyway! (With new programs, that is.)
Yeah, I mean look at the first screen shot, the "The page cannot be displayed" one! It looks just like mine in WinXP! For a second there I thought it was/.ed, but then came to realize these were fakes!

...but does it have Digital 4 Track Recorders?
This is one of the most straight-forward and insteresting ask-slashdots in recent memory.
Nah, if ./ was running DNA Servers @ 330-Trillion Calc/Sec, there'd be even more duplicate postings than there are now.
If it's off topic, don't mention it. Most importantly, if it's flamebait, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT.

That sounds like good, sound advice for the

AzNs want to be Americans, and Americans want to be AzN. Only difference is that the Asians actually have taste in what they watch/read.

Wait, wasn't that last year?
It looks like Underwater Basketweaving has some competition now.
...if "pirate" radio stations what didn't mess with paid signals and emergency/airport bands were allowed.
It took them 50 years to formulate this answer?
"Sun has agreed to provide Staroffice for free, or on a CD-ROM for 10 Danish crowns ($1.5)."
Wow...1.1 million kids are going to have to share one CD-Rom? Anybody have a couple hundred CD-R drives ready?

Here is a story talking about an open source version of the .NET arcitecture, and right below it is an ad saying, "BUY M$ Visual Studio .NET TODAY!"
Yeah, Linux Geeks need a 'lil Lara Croft too! Oh, wait, tomeraider? Oops, my bad...
Alright! Now I can kick my best friend's ass in CS without the lag! w00t!
From a different angle, soon you'll just have to plug your power supply into a socket and you'll have your internet too.
