When my daughter was due to be born we decided to use Tescos home delivery service. She was late by a few weeks and had to be induced - we knew exactly which day this was going to happen. A week before the birth we made our list and gave a time and date for the shopping to be delivered (one day after the birth). There was no chance in the world we could do the shopping manually.

The shopping did not arrive on the day. We were told "sorry, it will have to be tomorrow". This was not acceptable as you can imagine. To cut a long story short, I ended up collecting the shopping myself. The order was not correct and I had to return to Tescos for a second time.

    Once bitten twice shy.

20 years ago I pirated games for the Spectrum 48k and the C64. I would buy a game and tape it for my friends. They would return the favour.

Now these games were poor. Some didn't work and some shops refused to believe me on this. They were expensive back then in my eyes too. A good 3 or 4 weeks worth of pocket money.

"Without me, the games industry today would be nothing" - Inda. ...and that's how I justify my piracy these days too.

The other point to make about developer not having food to eat is bollocks. Your games are crap. It has nothing to do with piracy.

Recently, a few thousand of us commented on a game in the making. This was an old 2D game that was going to get revamped into 3D. I, along with others, commented that some of us had more experience with games than the developers and they should listen to our worries. The game flopped, it contained none of the elements that we loved from the 2D game. I deleted my Warez copy after a couple of days... ...now they want to make Part II. It will also flop because of lack of gameplay and originallity.

WinRAR does a comparible job at compressing WAV files. Not quiet as good as FLAC but for achive purposes I think it is better choice as it is more widely used.

I know some media players can play FLAC but there are no CD burning applications [that I know of] that can decompress FLAC on the fly, meaning you have to decompress manually just like you have to do in WinRAR.

  21. Re:I'll tell you why WP lost on The War Of The Word · · Score: 1

btw I'd still rather use WP 6.1 over any version of Word even today. Word is infuriating to work with as it constantly has to do things "its way". I just recently was updating my resume which hasn't been touched in years and the act of just adding a simple bullet point in line with the others made me want to smash my head into my monitor.

So many say this where I work: "I wish we were still using WP6!". So many people complain that they can't line bullets up too...

Education.

They came from WP with no insight into word processing. They believe that all software should work they way they want it to. That's 30 people here all wanting the bullet button to do different thing.

Education.

How many of them went on Word courses? Exactly none. Not even the admin staff bothered to learn new skills. They just sit there huffing and puffing because the bullet button is not doing what they want it to do.

Education.

If you want your bullets to line up then use the Format Painter Button. It really is that simple. (Of course there are 10 other ways of doing it too, as with all MS Office applications)

Not a flame or a troll. Just some education because Word is a complex application.

  22. Wonderful on Biometric ID Cards Ready For Trial In UK · · Score: -1, Troll

I've been trying to think of ways that this card could help _me_ go about my day-to-day life. I cannot think of one single reason.

Recently I was a victim of identity fraud. Someone visited my old house, found some junk mail with my full name on it, and then proceeded to order GBP 650 of mail order goods. Would an identity card help here? Not likely.

About 5 years ago, I was walking home from a friend's house. I did not take my wallet with me as I was only going out for 10 minutes. The police stopped me because of the way I was dressed and proceeded to give me twenty questions. They were looking for a mentally handicapped adult who had 'escaped'. With no ID on me I said "Do I look like a fucking mental case?". To which the reply was no. "Fucking idiot" I said I went on my way. Would having an ID card helped _me_ in this situation? No, a swift Fuck Off was all that was needed.

A swift Fuck Off helps _me_ live _my_ life the way I want to. An ID card doesn't.

So, Blunkett, a Fuck Off is the only real help here. If you want a solution to the illegal immigrants then I suggest telling them to Fuck Off as well. Put a big sign up in all languages by the Channel Tunnel that says "Fuck Off (or we'll shoot you)".

Will the police have yet another reason to stop people who are just going about their business? Yes.
