    Actually I believe emacs was written in LISP as well as many other programs. Just because you can't use it doesn't mean its not a useful tool to other people. I personally love the eligence a good recursive solution provides. Any good programmer should have taken a class in LISP to understand how good recursion should be done. Point blank.

    You said it yourself "YOU make yourself smart" so I question how you walked away from college not learning anything. The biggest thing I took away from college was learning how to learn. Learning to push myself because no one else was gonig to.

    Having said that outside of those lessons my education toke place mainly at my programming job at the campus computing center.

    I don't know about you man but my iBook (clam shell) is by far and away the most rugged machine I've ever used. I've dropped it, I've used it in the freezing cold , I've even spilled pints of beer in it.

    problem is you're betting on statistics so ... every once in a while it will break down and you'll get a lemming effect everyone jumps ahead. This is why everyonce in a while you need to synch up with an "offical time" this could be distibuted and done much less frequently. With proper safe gaurds you could provide a solution with no deffects.

    Well I know DB/2 does an amayzing job or clustering and has great failure recovery. I mean DB/2 wasn't designed as a stand alone DB server it was designed to run on big machines 32+ processors and clusters. Postgres wasn't. Its not so much about can it do SQL well ... most all of them do it well it all about what else does it give you in terms of expansion ,recovery , ease of setup, support .... some of these postgres might win but in the biggies DB/2 is really an exceptional product.

    p.s. I am not an IBM employee I'm just speaking from experience and information I've read about them.

    The best way to avoid problems is peer reviews and well written unit test plans. Point blank.

    If you have good reviewers (someone that know what the code is supposed to do and could write it themselves) code reviews will pick out atleast 50% of the bugs. With a well written unit test (test all possible paths and all possible functionality) you will find all your functionality bugs (hopefully)

    These are two things that you can implement easily and effectivly. It also provides an early frame work for some software process ...

    You could also say sitting around playing video games distract you from actually writting real code and solving real problems. Trust me I knew many gamers that sucked at programming actually most of the gamers I knew weren't really actually that good (Clarkson U. alumn)

    I myself am not interested in gaming but I happen to have a very good job at very well known software engineering shop. It has everything to do with your love and desire to work/program computers and nothing to do with your like/dislike of video games.

    I'd be suprised if you could name any subscription based FM radio shows .... I thought radio was a broadcast medium and could be picked up by ANYONE with a FM tuner.

    The point I was trying to make was that not all adult entertainment has to be visual it could just as well be audible there by making it possible to provided over the radio.

    P0rn doesn't only consist of pictures think about all the great stories that can be told with sexy female voices (a.k.a. 40 year old housewife making an extra buck) over the radio.

    Radio in some respects is better for some stuff because you don't ahve t have a great body to go with the sexy voice.

    There is no such thing as partially lossless compression. You either loss data or you don't. The meaning of lossless is NO loss.

    ACtually I was watching the history channel (or discovery can't remember) and they parked a Hummer over a land mine and detonated it and the cabin stayed pretty much in tacket. They where saying it was designed to take a pretty big hit to the cabin and still protect its passengers. Now as for the rest of the vehicle it was shredded but the dummies inside weren't to bad.

    FYI given enough time and enough circulation every software *WILL* have security vulnerabilities. I don't care who writes it or how many code reviews are held it will happen. So suggesting to switch to another package to avoid a fixable security flaw is stupid.

    Now saying that there are some package that are more inherantly more secure than others (i.e qmail vs sendmail) but I don't think this is a case of that more your personal views clouding the issue.

    He broke an NDA point blank, it doesn't matter if it hurt sales or not.

    I have no simpathy for him he signed it, he knew what he was donig when he broke it. Why do you feel it makes a difference if sales where hurt?
