Are they going to let the ones that don't charge, like gaim, use the protocol without charging them? If trilian can charge for the im service why doesn't MSN just charge the people for using their IM service? Leave the protocols open so that people can intercommunicate. can you imagine what the world would be like today if every different telephopne company didn't communicate with the other?
That because someone doesn't use the correct operatign system they are not allowed to watch dvd's? I mean was there any software out there before this that allowed people who used linux to watch a dvd?
You know, how hard would it be for microsoft to add a patch that, when a computer is booted, a large red screen comes up and tells people there are new patches? You know one to replace the you are booting into windows screen or somethig like that. THey have to watch taht dumb screen anyway. When they connect to teh internet it would send a message to the computer that there is updates then next time they reboot they will know. The thing is Microsoft already does some automatic updates without letting the customers know now. If you have ever used the MSN software you would know what I mean. I used to do tech support for MSN and we always new when they would do an update because that day we would get flooded with calls. Microsoft already does updates. They have spyware on our computers already. They just need to use it to work with their customers rather than use it all for marketing. THe problem with Microsoft is that the customer is not number 1, the dollar is. THis is going to be their downfall one day.
'One other thing from the article:
Microsoft also will begin shipping new versions of Windows XP with the built-in firewall activated by default, said Steve Lipner, director of the company's security engineering strategy.
Now that makes sense!'
How does this make sense? Their firewall is crap. It causes problems with dial up connections all the time. I work for an ISP and many times someone calls in with a bad connection and all we have ot do is shut off the microsoft firewall and all of a sudden it works. This is set by default when you create a dialer anyway. You have to remove the check to disable it. All this is going to do is give people a false sense of belief in their software. It is only a one way firewall anyway. If they have spyware or spamware it does nothing to stop this from reaching out to get info or give it. There are firewall companies out there. This is just a way for windows to remove market share from another source. Soon, if we continue this way, all coders will work for Microsoft or they will be out of work.
I bought an averatec laptop and got everything working great on it including 3d acceleration. I bought the laptop at best buy for $549. I was worried about it at first because of it being so cheap.
Thing is, if this was caused by a worm that takes advantage of faulty windows programming, how much money do you think is being spent right now keeping this quiet? What if it comes out that the problem was a Microsoft programming issue? I would hate to think that any hospital uses software that can do something like this. And oh yeah didn't the government just choose it for their security software? How secure would shutting down half of the east coast power grid with a worm sound.
What was it a month or two ago that Microsoft said they were going to start charging for updates? If they were to start doing that tomorrow Microsoft will become richer adn more powerful because every will remember this adn start paying for the updates because they don't want to see this happen to their system again. Very few people even realize there are other options out there for operating systems. I hope people start waking up soon.
Damn I work for an isp in Maine and the same thing is happening here also has been all day people call for rpc errors that shut their computer down I have found that deleting and recreating the dialer seems to get them back on but I don't know how long. They all have windows XP. Is Microsoft forcing an update?
Me and my brother was born with a merged placenta. My mother tells us how when we were conceived we were to separate eggs but that we were so close to being alike that our placentas merged so we were born like identical twins. Where can I find more research on this? Any slashdotters know?
From everything I have read, SCO is not claiming their own code is in Linux. It is code that IBM developed for The System V Unix and because of the contract with SCO any developments that were added to the Unix was essentially theirs. IBM is saying that anything they developed is theirs and they can do with it what they please. This isn't a simple case of copying SCO's handywork. In many businesses if you write some code while employed by the company it becomes the property of the company so this is not entirely unheard of. Instead of a company they are relating it to the parent code. So that any code that was added to the SCO owned code is SCO's. I personally hate SCO and would like to see them burn for what they are doing, but there is a chance they might be able to pull this off with this point of view though.
When I was in high school in CT in 1981 we had digital computers that we had basic programming classes on. I had a great time programming little ascii games. In 1983 I remember rumors of a visual desktop where it was like 'Watching TV' instead of just text.
And this is jsut another way to keep the people who will vote for oss solutions out of the mix. If you use linux exclusively you can't vote. Then if we can't get our votes in, only people who don't have a clue will be voting. It's all a conspiracy I tell you!!
if I remember right 2.4.15 had a serious file system corruption problem. If your worried about what is on your system I believe it is a good idea not to be first to try a new one. But it can be stable anytime. I use 2.5.69 right now and I have no problems with it. That doesn't mean someone else won't. But that goes for stable as well as unstable releases. if the 2.5.x is any indication I think that stability will not be an issue with the 2.6 kernel.
But there is a problem with how it saves passwords. When it saves it saves server wide instead of on just that page. I work for an isp and when people try to save their password to sign into the admin page it tries to put that password into all the users that are updated or added to the following pages. If you can get it to ask weather to save on a per page basis it might be useful for my company.
would be nice if they had it in Maine. That would be great get unlimited long distance for 30 bucks but everyone has to call massachusettes when I am their neighbor.
Come on why does big business say this? This can only help competition. Everyone will have to lower prices to compete. It sounds more like they are trying to eliminate the competition

Would be nice if they had at least one site in English. Can you get this product in English?
slackware

They found a blue screen at the Niagra power station that said press any key. :)
can't someone fix the blaster worm to take out SCO instead of poor old Microsoft.

my bad I misread it the whole individual is fused not just the pleacenta.

I put slackware for one os and freeBSD for the other and use the XP cd for a coaster. Problem solved :)
giFT is a good alternative.

Everyone should stop buying music. If you want to listen listen to something that is free or gather around a campfire and sing to yourselves.
