  1. right an MSN search will.. on MSN Planning to Take on Google? · · Score: 1

bring up the people who pay the highest price and that is it. The only algorythm they will use is the checkbook. I can not see anyone seriously using it and being able to trust the output. All the news stories that it pulls up will be MSNBC so they will all be slanted. I can not foresee any competition for google from Microsoft.

I would much rather buy my music. I like to listen to older music, but you can't get that usually. On the ideaofrenting the music industry controls what will be available. They will control whatpeople listen to more this way. It is bad enough now with the radio stations. it is almost impossible to hear what you want to hear you have to listen to the crap they let you hear. If you have to rent it, the music industry will have the control as to weather somethingis available or not and they will be able to pull the music even if you already downloaded it and it is still on your hard drive. Itwill just stop working because there is new stuff now. At least if you purchase you can control how long you want to listen to someone like Roger Miller :)

no I am not a troll. I am someone who has worked hard his whole life for what he has. I don't sit around waiting for a job. I take what is there when it is there. I earn my way through life. $9.00 an hour is about the same as sitting back and collectin $400 a week. The thing is some people will take what they pay into unemployment then keep taing for another 26 weeks they didn't pay into. The taxes you pay on that is for anyone who really needs it. I have met to many people who sit around and never look for a job. Then when hte time is up they sit around longer. I am not trying to say that everyone is like that. I agree it is needed sometimes but it is abused way to much and the only ones paying for it is the ones who never use it. There are to many jobs out there and you can not tell me any different I read the paper everyday. The thing is most people think that the jobs are beneath them. Or they don't want to work to jobs.

  7. anyone can get a job on Unemployed? How Long Until You Find That Next Job · · Score: 0, Troll

There is no reason to stay out of work. A job is available to anyone. When McDonald's is hiring at $9.00 an hour you can get a job. I can not believe the people who sit back and take unemployment. That is true laziness. It has nothing to do with the work available it has everything to do with people don't want ot do something that is beneath them. If you would temporarily take that crappy job and look for reasonable work you will look harder knowing your life is gonna suck until you find one. I can see unemployment as a temporary fix. It is not a solution for 26 weeks.

There are never any new artists it seems but you can always hear new stuff online from artists that are never heard of on the radio, and most of them are much better than the same old artists droning on over and over.

  17. Re:First Post on Ask Nicholas Petreley About Linux Usage Statistics · · Score: 1

Hmm I have two young children who use linux daily and they can do everything you are saying is troublesome. I believe that if young children who don't have a clue about computers can use a linux desktop without problems then a person who has had at least enough of an education to work in an office should be able to handle it. Now perhaps at their 7th and 8th grade levels they are beyond what is taught in an office these days. The main problem with people using an open source desktop is not teh fact that it is any harder. The problem is that it is different to some degree. within a few minutes of playing around I can get a kde desktop that looks and works remarkably like windows. Does that mean that is the answer? No, not at all. The big thing is the ability to be able to customize the desktop to fit the person and once people realize how simple it actually is and stop listening to people who had a hard time learning how to tie their shows telling them how hard it is, then more people will likely come to it. The problem also stems from customability. The more customizable a desktop is the more complicated it becomes. You are right on the point about making the default desktop a little more appealing in some cases. The thing is some people actually like the look of the desktop the way that you dislike it. Have you ever gone to a French neighborhood and experienced the brightly colored houses in some places in Canada? Nothing wrong with it at all it is just a matter of taste, but in most anglo saxon households you will like see a much less colorful bunch of brown tans and whites. Does it make one better than the other absolutely not. I think Lindows is coming very close to a desktop that someone simple would like. But for those that like it colorful there are an abundance of choices to choose from to make a desktop that the person would like. If you want simple try blackbox or fluxbox. you can't get much simpler and the speed will blow you away.

The precurser to this strategy was when they had the update in OLE where noone could open an attachment, to help enhance security, and never told anyone about the new security feature.

Most of the people on slashdot think that it is ok fr my child who is in school in the library, or even down to the local library doing homework, to be able to access pornography or to have it shoved inot his face. You can teach a child it is wrong to go hunting for it, and many will abide, but many times pornography can be to easily stumbled onto on the internet. Once it is viewed that can never be taken away. A childs live may be spoiled or turned to thinking of things they should never have to think about. Many of you feel that it is a childs right to view porn if they want to? There are laws to prevent it from going into the hands of those under 18 for a reason. To make one for the filters in libraries is a good thing for children. the rigths of adults don't matter in this circumstance. The biggest customers at a library is underage. If an adult needs to view porn then in the public eye is not the place for it. I can't be everywhere my child is. that is impossible. I can try to make it so that they don't have to view things that they shouldn't be seeing. The only people fighting for porn to be in childs hands are child pornographers, and I don't understand why there isn't a mandatory death penalty for tehm as it is.
