Obviously you've never been to Japan where MD still rocks away. I'm actually in the market for a new MD player after sitting on the sidelines for a few years and not using mine. With a massive MD collection and some of the new players offering in excess of 20 hours off a single battery AND FINALLY data storage capabilities. The new HD-MD holds 1GB of data for only a few bucks. Try scratching or dropping an MD. Just pile the little things anywhere you want. Lastly, there are active linux projects for MD support as well.
Of course it won't be viable in 5 years. Everyone will be using GNUstep by then and BSD will be thought of as "the other OS". For now I'll keep plugging away at gaming on Linux and BUYING games that have NATIVE linux support. Windows on the other hand will still be that overly bloated OS people run so they can try out the latest viruses and spyware. Go Bonzi Buddy!!
Hack the case into something more eye appealing. Is it going to be affordable? Imagine a touch screen linux box for all your media! A 7 inch touchscreen by itself is a couple hundred dollars. This could become more appealing than the Xbox for hardware hacking!!
How about that! Got a guy who took a trashed P4, solder some 24 guage wire on to create a pin and is using the CPU now. I am quite amazed at the man's skill. I for one can't do crap with a soldering iron except ruin things.
If the pot dealers would just get their licenses and pay their taxes like every other working joe then it might not be an issue. Other drugs are illegal to sell but you can legally obtain a license in Arizona for selling marijuana though you can't legally possess it! Oh, and it is illegal to shoot camels and cacti in the desert.
did that. Didn't catch the headline about the page being down because I get off work at 6pm PST which translates to what? 9pm EST darn it! Refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh, go rest my bum knee for a couple hours and come back. We're back and live folks. Scare a geek to death why don't you. I feared Slashdot was/.'ed.
Watercooling is not for the meek. Having done two machines I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I've never fried anything but have dealt with leaks while learning.
That's when you replace your power supply with a real one from Sparkle Power, Fortron Source, Antec, PC Power & Cooling, etc... that *if* it did blow you greatly reduce the chance of any of your components being lost. Anybody trusting their data to a Deer power supply or any other $25 400Watt power supply needs a boot to the head. Size is *NOT* as important as quality. Try and argue that.
I was so ready to retire my 3.4Ghz system with 2GB RAM, IDE HD, and decent graphics card too. Guess I'll have to wait to buy a PCIe graphics card, DDR2, new cpu, mainboard, hard drive, PCIe sound card, and a compatible PCIe Gbit fiber card. Clearly, I'm not jumping on that bandwagon for at least 6 months. Let the wrinkles get ironed out by the poor folks buying Dells first.:)

Not yet. Swaret does rock though. The only thing needed now is the package selection that Gentoo and/or Debian have to offer and I'd even leave Gentoo behind.
Simple case of RTFA. It's a C3 case heavily modified. Not a scratch build case. There you go. And once the/.'ing is over I'd recommend going back and reading about the rest of his pet project too.
Speaking of Montana.. I was there before there was a speed limit to speak of. I loved the sign coming in from Canada to Montan, Speed Limit: Reasonable and Prudent. Basically they wanted you to just drive safe. I found the average speed to be about 95mph for the faster drivers. It might still be 80 or 85 for the posted limit though.
Um, 75 in Cali and most of the rest of the USA. Oregon blows at 65 tops. Parts of AZ were talking 85. And if you think I-5 sucks... try I-10 through Texas. MAJOR arse sucking there. I've driven every mile of I-10 from Florida to L.A. and every mile of I-5 from L.A. to Seattle as well as most of I-95 from South Beach up the East Coast. Again, only I-10 sucked the most.
Yes, I'll agree it isn't perfect but it is interesting. It will pick up smb shares without a hitch from browsing your network. There is info available for doing NFS as well. I've got the weather plugin working perfectly. It's also nice viewing all my photos on a 42" HD Plasma. Most "media PC" type machines don't offer component out especially with support for 1080i which is what I run. If you buy one be sure to grab the latest firmware and also install the copy/delete programs so you can easily delete some of the built in stuff. You can also do all that through telnet too. I would like to know if it's possible to overclock the CPU. I'd willingly put a larger heatsink on mine if it'd help performance. Video support still needs more work too. All in all, I do like it.
/joke?
Really now, Windows is actually run most often on my second fastest box. Box 1 & 3 have a dedicated fiber connection with a overclocked 3.5Ghz HT P4 in one and XP2200 in the other. Keeps me going happy. Windows is quite undeserving of my best hardware. Want to know more? eviltechmonkey.com/mymach.html
No need to worry about a mirror unless it hits front page. Though I don't know why it didn't. Had someone looked at those classic pics (especially page 2) then it would've been/.'ed in no time.:-)

Anybody got a mirror of the mirror of the mirror? Hours later and still nothing on the main site or cache. I want my links!

I wouldn't mind if my driving safety was monitored for lower rates but I wouldn't want my speed watched ;)

As long as it doesn't run Windows things should be okay.

at least it's not a Slashdot poll. Then you'd have to round up, down, and around to get the numbers you like.

Let's hope they're past college as I heard of them about 8 years ago.

Is it safe to burn the ISO while people are still pulling them from me?

think how fast fscking Windows machines will get hosed.

Great, America is getting hit by the "smaller is better bug". Next thing you know you'll have spam in your box advertising shrinkage.

Screw that. Hide Internet F***ing Exploiter and ONLY USE MOZILLA and OPERA.
