Find another Win2K box, backup the HKCU and HKLM, Software,Micro$oft,Internet Exploder keys AND HKLM,Service,CurretControlSet,Winsock & Winsock2. Next, nuke all those regristry entries on your poor users box. Reboot, import your saved values, reboot and surf happily ever after. Works on XP too.
And for greater laughs!! New.net will even tell you how to screw things in linux!!
Also of note.. on the site he mentions "when/if the Slashdot crowd comes..." Yup, that's asking for it. I think the article should be reposted when the lights are active. Heck, post it daily until the lights are down. What's Slashdot without a good dupe?
Darn right. I never pay retail for a game if I have to reboot to play it. I will however pay retail for a game that'll run natively on linux. Even if the release wasn't until April there's still going to be bugs and patches. Why not go public beta before then to give gamers an oppurtunity to find the bugs now and patch as many as possible in the next 2 months. It's not like packaging or anything needs to change.
Having waited tables for many years I've loved using the G2 for taking orders but never hand one to a customer to sign the check. For that I keep on hand the click style Bic's because they work more often than not and aren't as likely to walk away as my favorite Pilots would.
this is not a problem with an abacus as you can own an original 8 bit abacus and just add 8, 16, 32, or even 64bit upgrade kits. You may need a larger frame to accomadate the beads but you'll have years of growth from your very own abacus.
at least Tomshardware.com threw in the results from earlier Opteron tests for comparison in his full blown review. Seems the Athlon still holds out in processes that require quicker execution while the P4 is still best for anything CPU intensive. Another thing, how reliable are the new AMD chips going to be? AMD should not allow certain motherboard makers to have boards for their chips. There's only a few reliable manufacturers out there yet people still buy the cheapest board, ram, and power supply and complain about how your system is unstable./end rant
The whole reason I paid retail for UT2003 is because it runs on linux. I have never and never will install the game on Windows. No desire whatsoever. Works great under linux and hopefully 2004 will too. I'll certainly be buying if it does. Otherwise it can sit on a shelf until it's under $20:)
If playing shoot 'em up games inspires children to shoot cars will Mario inspire kids to eat 'shrooms? Do we really need another flower power era? It's also inhumane to throw turtles around! Whatever is this world coming to.
You're right, I pirated my latest linux distro by going to some FTP server and downloading it. Then I burned on a CD and shared it with a friend. I even have the balls to make connections with official mirrors to update my packages. You should see my photo editing program. I've even installed it on other people's machines and I've never directly paid for it. My office suite sure gets around too. Good thing for pirating, otherwise I'd never be able to share!
Am I the only one with one of these? Go to Costco, pick up the 64MB version for $99, add a 256 SD for $50, FM tuner built in, single AAA battery that'll last all freakin' day, Stopwatch, water resistant, arm band, easy to control. What's not to like? It'll take up to a 512MB card too. Not bad for something that fits within the palm of your hand. Eh?
Perhaps you'll have your choice. "Lighter" would be more compliant with other window managers and making better use of apps or "Higher" for more eye-candy.
Hmm, gave yourself away as a Windows user or a noob. So, when are they releasing "Knome"? Or is that the Redhat modified version of KDE/Gnome? Flux, Afterstep, FVWM, Black, E, Windowmaker? I'm waiting for that perfect 3DWM:) Surround screen with holographic input devices. Full tilt game chair with more action oriented input devices to get your workout while gaming. And a last expectation that'd be nice, tech support from someone who speaks your language and resides on the same continent.
CRT's will be extinct. Banned in some places even.
30TB will be just the base install of the latest MS OS. A vanilla kernel will weigh in at about 300MB but only takes 15 seconds to recompile and load without a reboot. Windows will be labeled as "the other OS" and BEOS will have gained a 3% share of the desktop market
9 times out of 10 you'll need either a Philips for most older drives or a T9 torx for your newer drives. Sears has a full set of 'precision' torx/philips/flat for around $20. BTW, old drive platters make for perfect camping/signaling mirrors too as they polish easily and reflect well. So, if you to keep your data in the right hands take it with you:) Lastly, yes, make a freakin' backup because if a component requires more than an hour of time to fiddle with it's probably not worth toying with in the first place for personal systems.

The real question to ask is.... Does a modded mouse go faster?
Actually I can't even get to the site right now. I thought there was lower viewing on games.slashdot.org. Why is it they look to be/.'ed and there's only one offtopic post so far?
So how does the coffee controller work? Drink to go? Would I get a GUI for adding Kahlua to my coffee?:)
Actually, your average non-computer user tends to think of the monitor as the computer and more often than not they end up calling the computer itself the 'modem'. And even there your statement is in slight error as the CPU is only a chip (or two) on the motherboard inside the computer's chassis. What's more confusing than memory/diskspace questions? How about buying cheap/proprietary crap because "it's a good deal"? BS. Don't come whining to me when your computer doesn't work like it should because you bought your machine prebuilt off the shelf. Stop in and talk to a few local shops until you find someone who knows their stuff. And why not know a little bit about bluetooth? Those who don't know what it is want it because they think it's the cool thing to have. Then they realize that the standards are not standard enough, their toys don't play like they hoped, and frustration ensues.

Give them 15 minutes and they will probably be back. Tom's has plenty of server and surfing is just a tad slow right now because of /.
If the linux install is on the CD I'll be buying another game at near full price. :)
You're thinking Microsoft Works.
Go find yourself the 4620 drivers. They work wonders with my FX5700 Ultra. No lockups like the 4496's.

Actually it played quite fine considering it's 60+ posts later. Looks exciting. Can't wait for the nice large clear version to appear at apple.com. :)

You'll also note the poll is 50/50 after 33,000 votes. The results may not be accurate as there is no CowboyNeal option.
Well deserving of a 'funny' or 'informative' mod up.

Could that be William Shatner on the first cover?! Is there anything the man hasn't done. :)
