IT matters because without IT I wouldn't know what to do. How many of you want to go back to the 18th century? Not I. A world without IT is a world not worth living in!
Dear Darl free love works. It is called a girlfriend or a wife. If love wasn't free it would be called prostitution and I'm sure you know that prostitution is illegal in the States....so is extortion.
We are so screwed....we can't see shit until it hits us.....I just hope this shit like this doesn't land in my backyard. If it landed in D. McBride's back yard I wouldn't complain.
It is late and my dyslexia is kicking in....the post should have said.
Brazil had the freedom to make a choice and that is what "freedom and choice" is all about. I take it that Microsoft is now going to run and cry to US Senators and Congressmen.

Q: What's with this Palladium stuff I keep hearing about?
A: One of the most exciting aspects of Longhorn is its optional integration with Palladium
Ok, this guy must either work for Microsoft or is getting some serious kick-back. I wonder what he's getting because no sane person would use exciting and Palladium in the same sentence.
You will benefit from the contributions made by the next generation not what you are contributing now.
And...
One of the biggest problems with SS is government borrowing against it. The government writer all these I-O-Us they never intend to fulfill or can't put the money back as fast as the rate they are borrowing from it.
Social Security Budget is off limit because Hard working Americans are directly contributing to it. Health & Human cervices pay for grand-ma and grand-pa's health drug addiction (Merck and Pfizer don't exactly make it inexpensive for them) and those that can't afford medial insurance. I certainly wouldn't trade a tax break for cutting you children's medical coverage. And I'm sure you are aware what hospitals are charge these days, you can't even call for an ambulance any more.
Now I know a lot of money is being wasted by the H&HS and there is room for improvement but compared to how much is being wasted and skimmed from the public by the defense department it is small.
The defense budget is the odd-man-out when compared to other budgets.
The Japanese don't have a Defense budget like we do...how in gods name are we going to pay for all of this if the two headed monster, defense budget and national debt, continue to grow?
Side note: 10% of Japanese workforce are in construction business. Apparently their is a lot more money in construction than in science and technology...of course they use a lot of technology themselves. The Japanese have taken the concept of pork belly to new heights and I certainly don't want that emulate.
If you like traveling, then this is for you!

Traveling Jobs in IT?

I happen to know that The Naval Research Facility is hiring network and system engineers. These guys do a lot of traveling since they have contracts with and support the US Navy. They are all over the place (Hawaii, Norfolk, Japan, Italy, etc) installing equipment and such in Navy ships.
Word of caution, traveling sucks after a while...the first few times it is cool but after that you will hate it. I don't know about most people but I don't like flying every week a day flying to a destination and another day flying backs from it.
They can have me as a customer if their sports titles are playable online and are free. I am so fucking pissed of at EA about Madden that I'll never purchase another. I mean, they could have at least given users the ability to setup their own servers sorta like in most first person games. It seems everyone is trying to milk consumers by jumping on this whole subscription based bullshit.
Anyone who knows C++ knows the vast majority of this information.
How pretentious of you to assume this. Most people don't even know how write a template function let alone write a single function template that works for every argument type. I found this artical very informative and definitely worth the read.
Lawyers are whores. I'm thinking for combing my CS degree with a law degree and becoming the biggest whore of them all. Who'd be the only lawyer that knows the difference between a pointer and a reference (rhetorical question).
I don't agree with your comment about Mozilla/Firebird vs IE. Eveyone I know is fed up with pop-up-paradise IE. At work well all use Mozilla. Also the best advertisement in the world is "word of mouth" advertisement and Mozilla has that. Slowly but surely people will move away from IE because of its problems with privacy. MS doesn't care now but I guarantee you sooner or later they will.
Just out of curiosity was that $50M reported as an investment? Sounded like tax writer off type of deal. I can't imagine a group investors would waste money in such a fashion, I certainly wouldn't.
Get Eclipse IDE, it will do it for you. All you have to do is right-click on your source package, select export then Jar files. Then you'll get a nice GUI wizard that will walk you through the creation of jar files and then do it for you.
MS would love to get its hands on SCO but anti-trust prevents it from doing so. You can't exactly take out your competitor by proxy when everyone knows you own the company that is doing it for you. The states would be all over them and it will certainly become a public relations nightmare.
Clearly Mr Strauss isn't doing his job as manager of technology strategy and outreach.
Who exactly is he reaching out to with his blatant insult of many free software developers. I produce quality products during my spare time as a hobby and during the day time I have a professional job. I for one call for Mr. Strauss' immediate resignation. He is clearly short sighted doesn't see the big picture. He is certainly not an individual I would trust to manage my technology outreach program.
All I want to know is when does Amazon.com come into the picture?

My sanity is not in question but since you brought up the subject I'll tell you. I am sane...just ask Santa Claus.

It is late for me here but that should have read STL and Templates.
"I would assert that if no part of your application uses templates (STL or otherwise), you should be using C instead."
Oh Jesus you didn't just say that and mean it did you?
You are assuming that just because I found the article informative that I know a little bit of C++.
C++ is not synonymous with STL templates...It is a feature the use of which is not mandatory.
Anyone who knows C++ knows the vast majority of this information.

Hehe. MS JVM died back in 1999 and has nothing to do with J2EE technology. About the only thing that used MS JVM are apps developed using Visual J++.
agree...to heavy-wight for my taste.
