    I can define TCO my own way, but it might prove that BeOS was king (yeah, right); and other's may define it their own way. We'd need to know exactly how they defined TCO to know.

    Yes, actually. We found that there are some VPNing tools that don't work correctly (or at all) under the 2.4.x kernel, but work just fune under 2.2.x.

    Those dimensions are a little off. The actual dimensions are listed on Page 20 of the Technical Manual. It is 61110 cm long, 55974 cm in diameter (saucer section only), and 11707 cm from the top of the saucer to the furthermost rear of the primary hull. (I can't find dimensions for the parts lower than that...) 61110 cm is almost 2005 feet in length, not 2103 feet. (but now I'm quibbling.)

    After comple and install modules.dep is missing in /lib/modules/2.4.20 (for that matter /lib/modules/2.4.20 is missing entirely.) Everything works (so far), so I'm not too worried about it, but can I just copy the dep file from 2.4.18 to 2.4.20? Or is that a really bad idea? In other words, what's up with that?

    but this really isn't new. Here where I live there are networking companies that to test new networking cable send sound through them. After all, CAT5 is really just a funky version of speaker wire, so it works. I see this as just another kind of test, ok, but not all that important. And I agree that it is probably nothing more than the media jumping on something cool.

    SOYO is coming out with their own SFF system soon. Pricing (according to them) will be ~$200 USD. People keep worrying that the SFFs are not gamer systems, Tom's Hardware seems to disagree.

    It's probably not configured right. I have yet to find an old game (going as far back as Doom) that won't work on my XP Pro computer. Now, if you're talking about XP Home...well, that thing is an Abomination, and I urge you to abandon it.

    Your concerns and the use of parental oversight, as opposed to a filter, are commendable; and I'm glad that you are actually doing so. The best thing that can be done to protect kids on the Internet is direct supervision. Let's move the PC out of the office and into the living room.

    (1) The need to get things done, Windows allows me to do my job, whereas at current Linux will not.

    (2) I have to. (See point #1 above).

    (3) All the Linux desktops look like ass.

    (4) All the cool games work on Windows better (and don't give me that crap that you get equal FPS in Linux as in Windows, that's been disproven time and again.)

    (5) Because, frankly, Windows isn't that bad. Only the loud, uninformed, zealot uses terms like "get a real OS" or "Windoze", or "M$"...

    Ok, I get this perishable DVD, and put it into my old as hell, second generation DVD player (not in my PC). How's the DVD player going to know not to play it? Does it flash some EEPROM in my DVD player or something? If so, I'm sueing, because as I see it "any software that does damage to, or causes a functional system to cease functioning" is a virus. Clearly, if it does this, then it's a virus. If it doesn't, then how can this possibly work as a deterrant, unless it wont work in a normal set-top DVD player, which is totally GAY.

    That because the filtering software (pick a version, any version) can't discriminate properly--and thus this is the reason you get blocked sites that shouldn't be blocked--that CIPA's requirement for filtering software is absolutely unconstitutional.

    Dudes, it's easy, and yes you can do it with a lot of the new crop of "copy protected" CDs. The secret is *shh! don't tell anyone!* Old crappy hardware. Some of the new tricks to protect against copying assumes your equipment, like your CD drive, is relatively new. Pick up an old 4x CD ROM drive. You'd be surprised how well all of a sudden things like the supposedly protected Shakira album just play... and as we all know, if it plays, it can be copied.... ;)
