So yeah - walking outside is just ASKING for trouble. If you want to deal with high voltage current running throughout your body, well, be my guest. You can talk the talk about how you'd not go out on a clowdy day, and how lightning already struck where you're walking once before, etc. etc., but unless you've been there, you have no idea what you're in for.
If that's the case then they can look forward to seeing less content created that they want and more stuff for us "old guys". Then again, do we really need another American Pie, Knocked Up, etc...?
I understand that reading comprehension makes one a snob, but the way they are "preventing any one format from gaining a clear upper hand." is by creating a barrier to the one consumers were choosing at a rate of 2 to 1. Again, this doesn't foster competition.
Actually, Paramount and Dreamworks customers had a choice (they could buy movies on whichever format they wanted.) The check from Microsoft was for exclusivity. The end effect was not less choice, but no choice.
You seemed to be confused about what exactly a free market does.
Here's a quick lesson
step 1. Find a product people want (say, unlocked cell phones or a better service provider.)
step 2. Create the product and market it to those people.
step 3. profit
A free market protects the consumer indirectly by allowing/supporting competition.
I get a kick out of all the people who think that streaming is going to be better for the consumer than physical media. What you're going to get is a DRM loaded stream that is lower bitrate and proprietary, and if you want to watch the movie again? Well, just be prepared to pay again. Want to take a few movies for the kids to watch in the car on a long road trip? Too bad, allowing you to save/keep a film you've paid to see isn't in the studio/distributer's best interests...
I'm guessing that the "IT" degree is more closely related to an "MIS" degree here in the states. Most of the department heads and managers I know (not counting those in Academia) have MIS degrees along with their MBA. The CS guys (like the engineers) generally spend 20-30 years doing the same thing... what the MIS/MBA grads tell them to.
Am I the only American on the planet rooting for higher food prices in the 3rd world? Higher prices for food equals less surviving adults and children which equals less world congestion. I live in the US now, and $10-$20 a day for sustanance is the norm. Get over yourselves already poverty stricken countries./end sarcasm
Wanting others to suffer because it fits into your world view is pretty short cited if you ask me...
Spend some time looking at who's putting up all those tradeskill items and BOE epics. I haven't played WoW in some time, but I remember when a search for pretty much any tradeskill item that was in demand came up with the same 2-3 people. Those 2-3 people always had 2-3 BOE epics each and an assortment of rares listed as well. Anyone who thinks that gold farmers vendor their BOE blues and epics just isn't thinking...
Gold farmers don't simply farm gold. While they are killing mobs they are also accumulating drops. So while they are increasing the supply of the gold they are at the exact same time increasing the supply of uber rare items. Whenever supply is low enough for an item the gold farmers see the higher prices as a chance to make a profit and farm those items to sell for gold that they can then trade for $$$. I remember back when I played WoW and certain essences were impossible to buy off the auction house, when the gold farmers realized the market was there they started farming them and you quickly saw prices drop by half.
In short, gold farmers increase the amount of gold in the game while at the same time increasing the supply causing a net effect of essently zero on the market (gold farmers would only be increasing market prices of items if they were buying them.)
Better things to do? Like what? Show me your hobbies and I'll show you a waste of time.
The difference between you and I are that I'm not so deluded into thinking that anything someone else enjoys is automatically a "waste of time" just because I don't.
I don't play online games. I have in the past, but don't ATM because my interests lie elsewhere.
I ordered DSL because their website said I was close enough, but when they came out to hook me up they said they couldn't because I was "homed" to a different CO too far away. It was then explained to me that even though there is a CO less than a mile from where I live I couldn't have my line moved to it because that CO was already at max capacity.
No, in every situation I brought up one person was paying someone else to handle what they might consider the routine maintenance for an activity they otherwise enjoy. Gold farming isn't "playing" anymore than painting the lines on a baseball field is "playing baseball."
By and large the people who think like you have minimum wage jobs or no jobs/friends to otherwise occupy your time (this is/., hence you get modded up) so you feel cheated when people actually have a life outside of game can still log in for a few hours and have fun.
This post paid for by iceperson (he's just too busy to spend anymore time in this thread.)
Whether your giving someone $$$ or farming yourself you're "paying" for the gold.
I'm curious though, do you wonder why the guy who takes his Ferrari to someone else to get it detailed bought it in the first place? What about the person who has someone else do all of their pool maintenance? For many gold farming is one aspect of a game they don't consider "fun" but other aspects are enjoyable enough that they are willing to part with $$$ so that when they log in they can focus on the things they like to do.
The only function that is serves is to add a level of tedium. If I click on a bundle of logs then I've already made a conscious decision to use the axe. If I click on a node of minerals I've already decided to use my pick-axe. There is no need for more interaction than that.
I tried LOTRO, but left it for dead when I realized that the developers took design cues from the same guy who thought Vista could use 5 clicks to do anything I needed it to do...
That's just inviting trouble.
I walked outside and was struck by lightning.
blah blah blah

Trust me.
Region coding is optional for HD DVD and can be enabled at any time.
About the 51Gb disks:
"James Armour from Toshiba's optical storage division at CeBIT this year, and were told that although the third layer would be harder to read, and generate more data errors"
Oh, and Sony and TDk have been working on a 200GB blu ray disc.
I'm sure there's more inaccuracies in your post, but I really didn't read much after the points above...

How does paying a content provider to no longer release their content on a competing format "maintaining competition"?
Actually, Paramount and Dreamworks customers had a choice (they could buy movies on whichever format they wanted.) The check from Microsoft was for exclusivity. The end effect was not less choice, but no choice.

It's still selling faster than any console on the market...

It's a sad day when someone believes that corporations have the right to "prosecute" people and that gets modded as "insightful"...
Hmm... perhaps if the idiot taking the video camera into a theater used a little she wouldn't be in this predicament?
they found him INSIDE the park using the knife?
How's that working out?
