    If it's so obvious why do all the people around here bitch and complain when companies like Nike and Apple move to countries with lower wages. They are driven to it.

    As an asisde, if it saves me a few bucks I'm all for having these people live and work in the conditions they do. I couldn't care less.

    The reason the US has lost its manufacturing sector and runs a massive trade deficit is pure and simple: because you can save a huge amount of money by evading US law - evading US minimum wage, evading OSHA, etc. etc.

    Why do we (the royal We, I'm not American) allow this? Because it's what the people, errr, consumers demand. Everybody wants to shop as Crazy Al's because he has LOW-LOW SUPER LOW, CRAAAAZZZZZY LOW prices. How do we get those crazy low prices? Move manufacuturing to the cheapest place possible. It's pure and simple. If consumers weren't driven by low prices there'd be no need to move factories anywhere.

    I guess that's cool that it supports lossless and lossy compression. I don't know that much about either to really care too much.

    I am, however, interested in how well this new format will support script-kiddies gaining access to my computer through new security flaws.

    I mean, surely this new file type must be tied deep into the OS to provide a wonderous computing experience.

    Optical Backup solutions do *not* last very long. The US Goverment currently recognizes tape backup as a 50+ year backup solution.

    Microsoft was actually caught doing it back in the 90s, so it's not like you need to be a radical conspiracy theorist to be aware that it goes on... and after a while you learn what to listen for.

    Can you provide information regarding this? Was this on slashdot? Give me a couple key words and I'll google for more.

    (not being sarcastic in case it comes across as such. I'm geniunely interested in reading more about this if it's available.)

    If someone challenges an assertion by claiming that there is not sufficient ginformation to draw that conclusion, a response of "but it could be true so stop speculating" is worse than useless.

    Making up scenarios (ie, "they could have known this for months") and then implying that it took longer than 10 days is just as useless.

    However, in my case I did it on purpose....

    You know, they could have known about this since 1994. Man, those Microsoft guys are real baddies.

    Anyways, I'm done with you.

    I'm not even sure why I'm sticking up for MS. It pains me.

    I have yet to see reliable data on when it first was discovered being exploited in the wild and when it was reported to MS. For all we know MS had this reported to them months ago.

    Similiarly, for all we know they could have had this reported to them on the 27th. Speculating as you have proves nothing, aside from doing some self-reenforcing of your own hatred.

    I spend almost no time on MacOSX keeping it running. I gave up on my WinXP and it simply doesn't connect to the Internet, and it now has no maintenance time either. Bo

    Does that mean XP sucks?

    I have XP on the internet and have never had a single problem. Not one. I also spend "next to no time keeping it up and running". Maybe your story means you're an idiot more than it means XP sucks.

    Not knowing you, I can't say for sure. Just food for thought.
