Great post!... and I agree... there are too many people sitting on their asses that will be lead to the slaughter house if something isn't done with our sorry ass, big company backed government. I can't wait to be a part of what is coming within the next ten years (hopefully) when people FINALLY wake up....
... and you lack any type of long term vision. That much is obvious. This is the kind of law that just doesn't restrict the rights of terrorists, but of the masses. Besdies, who's definition of terrorist are we using, and who makes that determination? Bottom line: This law is VERY frightning!
Sorry about all the quotes.... just trying to make a point...
The so called patriot acts, in my opinion, aren't too patriotic, at least in the sence that most people think of when they think of what the USA was founded upon.
I only use quotes like that when I am ranting and raving about somethig that really pisses me off (and when I'm trying not to use any vulgar words that may make me look a witless fool).
Seriously, it was another "Act" that was passed by King George all those years ago that severely limited our freedoms that caused a revolution in this country... and things like this will only lead to the same end...
As soon as this terrorist thing cools off a bit, this "Act" will be revisitied and decalred unconstitutional.
Any "law" that gives the government the right to spy on people will not last... and if laws like this are not repealed, then other laws with similar or worse implications will slowly be approved. The people simply won't tollorate it!
I understand the need for security, but this has gone too far! What is next... Patriot Act III: The gov't has the right to put cameras on every street corner, business, and suspected terrorist's home???
Now I know this is a bit off topic, but this "Patriot Act" series has to come to a screeching halt! PA II, not yet passed, allows the US government the right to add 5 years onto a jail sentence just for using encryption when commiting a "crime".... so if you don't report your USE tax (state taxes for purchasing items on the internet w/o paying taxes at the time of purchase), then you're going to jail for atleast 5 years since the purchase was made encrypted and, if you fils your taxes online, that was encrypted as well! Also (I don't want to protect hax0rs, but...) if you break into a server using SSH, there is 5 years as well!!
These "patriot" acts are just another example of big business paying off politicians to get rediculous laws into place that will protect their interests (even though it may LOOK like they are protecting the people).
... yet another reason the US "system" is in need of serious reform... to prevent businesses from "funding" politicians to get these kind of crazy laws passed!
To the US gov't: Stop wasting time on this kind of stuff and go find bin Laden!
"What Microsoft is really doing is saying, 'Hey, just recognize you are truly at our mercy.' "
This quote from the article is right... but I wouldn't take this quote "at its word"...
You are at Microdoft's mercy... and they will show you mercy when you sell off a portion of your company.
What the license agreement states is that you are required to pay off all of your original license agreements with Microsoft...
.... so that you can uninstall that sorry ass OS from your (probably out dated) systems and install LINUX!!!!
Now that is what I call mercy.. they are going to let you back out of your poor choice so that you can make a more educated decision on your company's direction in IT.
Actually, I like this sheisty manuver by MS... this will piss off all of their coorporate buyers and force them to move to Linux since new MS licenses aren't in their budget. MS might get the payoff now, but it could hurt them in the long run....

... that the people that produce and distribute LCDs are the same people that sell CRTs... and if they lower the prices on LCDs, they'll kill their CRT sales... which cuts off one of their revenue streams..
As soon as the majority of CRTs that are already produced are sold, the prices on LCDs will drop... but these companies are still profiting off of old technology, so why should they cut off their nose to spite themselves?
Just a couple more cents of mine...

Like it says in the original article, everyone would like to have one of these sleek and "sexy" displays, which means there is a HUGE demand for them. Thus, the companies producing them want to see how long they can keep the prices up while emptying their inventories. After all, they need to cover all of their R&D costs, plus rake in the profits while they still can.
... HOWEVER, one has to wonder why the price is still SO HIGH! If they lowered the price by a couple hundred bucks on most models, their sales would probably go through the roof... which leaves me scratching my head.... they'd probably make more from the volume in sales than the current low number of high priced sales...
Which is why I am also convinced that there is some price fixing going on in the market right now...
The leading manufactures of LCD's must have hired all of the old Nintendo exec's thatgot fired for price fixing.... because they seem to have learned from their previous mistakes and appear to be doing a better job covering their tracks this time...
Hmmm, so if you have Windows 2003 Server, I wonder if M$ will also capitalize by releasing Back Office 2003.... and force everyone to use enterprise software that is 2003 and higher as well.....
As is, you have to have Windows XXXX Server to use their enterprise software, and since they're even more active in tracking server licenses, doesn't anyone else think that MIGHT also use this opportunity to force everyone to upgrade all of their other software packages as well???

So the point of cheating, some people get their jollies from making you mad. That's just a sad fact of life.
... and I agree with you...
That is why the other honest players and I get our jollies off of embarassing the hell out of losers that cheat!:)
I think that it has a nice ironic twist to it... the honest people getting their jollies by pissing off the people that were trying to piss everyone else off by cheating...
... so as you see, cheaters never prosper, at least in my little world:)
Remove patch (bandaid, tape, or bubble gum) from container.
Physically block port 135 with above mentioned patch.
Done.
Seriously, how many people are running RH 5.0 or HP-UX 9.x??? Those aren't supported anymore, but they were around (and supported) when NT4 came out....
I, like most people on this site, have an intense dislike for Microsoft... but maybe, just this once... we should cut them a break??
... and if you're running an app that is "that" important, then it should already be behind a firewall... so seriously, other than having to shell out a couple bucks for a current OS, what is the problem?
... or instead of complaining and viewing this as something bad, look at this as an opportunity to convince your boss that it is time to switch over to Linux!!
Now I know that everyone that administers an online game handles cheaters differently, but here is what we like to do... (depending on how "bad" they have been)
First, deactivate their account(s)
Allow the other players to pick appart their characters, so that the people that "lost" something from these cheaters can enjoy a little revenge...
Rename their characters in a very colorful, but interesting way... example: General Pink Fuzzy Bunny of Candyland
Post in the forums who was caught cheating, what they did, any appropriate amount of proof, and what penalties they suffered from for cheating
Then, finally, sit back and allow the player community to embarass the person that cheated
Now, don't get me wrong... we're not terrible people. When a player in our game finds a bug, we reward them for reporting it to the proper moderator and for not exploiting it (other than to verify that they did, in fact, find a bug).
We only do the above nasty things to people when they ruin the experience for the other players... and if they do it intentionally. We do our best to squash any time of bug or imperfection in game balance as soon as it is located, but no game is perfect... and there will always be people out there that are going to ruin games for an entire gaming community just for a laugh, so we allow the community to retain some sort of dignity by allowing them to have the last laugh....
It may not be the perfect answer, but most of the people playing my games seem to enjoy it...
Begin Ranting and Raving
My thought on cheating, especially with games, is simple: Why would you spend hours and hours playing a game that doesn't provide a challenge? If you cheat, it takes away the feeling of accomplishment that you have when you're done playing... whether you win or lose... since all you have done is proven that you don't have the skill to win; that you have to cheat in order to feel the "thrill of victory"... and that you are so selfish and self-centered that you don't take into account that there are other people playing against you, people that have invested their time and effort, that have just wasted their time so that you can prove that you suck so bad at a game that you have to cheat...
So again, what is the point of cheating?... to prove that you an untalented, selfish ass???

We had to purchase all of the equipment (cable modems, the modem bank(s), and the routers)
We were going to provide the bandwidth (a couple T-1's for a building of 400)
In the end, we found that if our subscription base ever tailed off (and this is in a college town), we'd be royally hosed since we still had to pay the monthly fees for the T-1s. We couldn't purchase any less than 2 T-1s because of the potential use at peak times. But the biggest problem was the hardware!
