Everything gains mass whenever more energy is present, e.g. E=mc^2. Applies to *everything*. Take a rubberband, measure its mass... then stretch it... and it will *gain* mass. Yes, batteries are heavier when charged:-)
There will always be debt. If you can make money at a rate of say 7% a year (with your business, or wacky gold mining idea), and borrow money at 5% a year, then it makes every sense in the world for you to borrow to pay for all the equipment and expenses, and pay for it with your 7% year... leverage... that's what business is ALL about... to take someone's money (shareholders [divident rate], or borrowed [bond rate]), and turn it into more money at an even faster rate... on a personal level, you either put it in a bank [savings rate] or buy a bond [bond rate], or invest it [divident rate]... or keep it in your pocket to get [0 rate]. Can't get around debt, or folks willing to lend.
It's not just mainframes... the biggest IBM product we use at wr0k is Netezza (technically not IBM invented, but heck, that's the future of "big databases" right there). Though they should cut their prices in half, or else Greenplum (EMC) will eat their lunch...
I was going to buy the 3g touch---i had kindle (2nd gen), and while browser was barely useable, it was a nice fuzzy feeling that if I really really needed it, it was there... with touch interface, it probably would've been a LOT more useable.
But, eh, good I found this out before pre-ordering.
Well, if he was head of the peace movement, I'd be angry and outraged.
As things are, I think our government's strategy now is to kill off anyone who declares themselves a leader of a terrorist group with clear intention to cause trouble for USofA---before long, nobody would want to be a leader (if they're systematically killed off months/weeks after assuming the role).
Morale of the story: if you don't want to be a (drone) target, don't declare America as your target.
I wr0k in the area, and frankly, there are more cops on the street than protesters. Another ``problem'' protesters didn't foresee is the barricading of streets---leaving only a very narrow walkway for human traffic in the wall st area---you can't exactly protest AND have pedestrian traffic in that narrow walkway... and then they have folks arrested for blocking traffic---which may have been the NYPD intention all along.
As for the protesters being violent... that's completely not true. I walked *through* the protesters a few times on my way in/out of exchange, and haven't felt any particular intimidation or anything. Seems like a buncha police folks itching to arrest someone (i saw that mace video, and it was horrifying that something like that is happening right outside).
they only do this 'cause bandwidth is defying common sense and becoming more expensive with time. only that can explain why the price of service hasn't gone down in so many years...and we're getting less and less every year.
They wouldn't change their generic agreement doc just for you---unless you're a big shot, or you're dealing with a tiny firm. Generally, when reviewing a contract, you don't have to ask them to change anything. Take a pen and change it. Cross out things, initial it, then sign whatever you agree with. If they don't sign, that's their business.
Why not just casually cross it out of the contract, initial it, then sign it? I've done that to every single place that had such a clause... and so far, nobody protested.
In a related note, what if the corp fires you after a week, would you still not be able to "compete" with them for 12 months without pay?
How about a maglev train in a large circular vaccuum tunnel, accelerated to very high speed,... and then shot out horizontally into orbit? (how fast would it have to be shot out for it to leave earth orbit, irrelevant of air resistance---can't maglev get it to that speed in a vaccuum tunnel?)
or... how large would a trebouchet have to be to launch a capsule into orbit?
or... how about a huge slingshot (with a whole lot of rubberbands?).
or... how about launching rockets from air balloons, e.g. if amateurs can get a camera up 30miles for $500 to take pictures... why not get the whole rocket 30miles up... and avoid wasting energy in fighting densest 30 miles of atmosphere? (also can accelerate much slower---due to vastly reduced air resistance).
or... how about launching off a high flying airplane (sorta like in that new superman movie?)
or... how about using small nukes to propel things?... a gazillion of such ideas are unworkable, but some of them, if given enough thought and research, might just be practical, and long term, cheaper than current methods. So... who knows what the alternatives are...
App? Doesn't android support tethering AND wifi thing right out the box? My NexusOne wr0ked great in that regard with different providers in many countries.
I'd argue we're not sinking enough... if we were, the project would never get canceled. The reason LHC likely won't get killed, is that it's essentially a welfare program for scientists of EU---works out great---society employs the brightest folks to do *possibly* useful research for future generations. Also national (regional) prestige. Frankly, I'd rather we spend moneh on such gov welfare programs than on modern-day department of defense...
Microsoft could also turn it into a face-ranking system, where they keep track of how often your face shows up in search results... Then online-dating folks will have scientific proof that they're ugly:-/
from what I know, cameras don't add points to licenses... only physical officers can do that. cameras have the same impact as a parking ticket.

But but but... with everyone in school for the summer... who will tend the corn fields??? Eh?
that would also require a bit more processing power on the token---which would make'em more expensive to manufacture, and battery not last as long...

Eh, so Facebook knows more about YOUR social circle than YOU do (e.g. they know who unfriended you, you don't...).

I'll never understand why apple hasn't released a controller,
According to Jobs, buttons are stupid.

In related news, authorities are suddenly suspicious of all bananas...
I've never had problems with 3d games until I played half-life2---that motor boat section made me sick, rest of game was fine.

Yet we keep sinking money into colliders.

Before WW1, all economies of Europe were *very* interlocked... it was ridiculous to think anything of ww1 scale would occur...and yet it did.
Problem with conflicts is that they often don't end once the money runs out---they might just get bigger, to hell with the costs.
...wish I had mod points :-)

I would've assumed that the justice departments of the world had this kinda technology already...
...is there Skype on Android? Oh...
In fact, that's one of the "laws/rules of game programming"; the first two go something like this:
1. make a game even an idiot can win.
2. idiots have money too.
