I've seen it written that if you notice advertising in movies, it's too obvious. I don't know if that's true because if you miss it, maybe you won't buy it later... but that aside, just because I see something doesn't mean I want it. Possibly that works on teens, but late-20's geeks need a little more. "Cool" isn't enough.
When I was probably about 5 I saw a box of "Cheerios" on Superman's kitchen table. I probably ate Cheerios till I was at least 18. After the initial novelty wore off, I'm sure I ate it because I liked it. But product placement could certainly be effective for that age. It works on some 5 year olds anyway.
My whole point (that was missed) was that I rarely watch commercials with just my VCR... and that its not just the fault of the DVR that people don't watch commercials.
The reason I don't watch commercials is that there are 20 minutes of them for every 1 hour of show.
I'm not arguing that I don't want a TiVo... I would be happy to use the TiVo in the same manner. If I didn't have to pay for a lifetime/monthly subscription I would probably go buy one today. But, I am cheap. And until I can reason the price, my VCR works fine.
If I tried to watch 40 shows a week, I think I would have to either quit my job or kill myself. Does anyone really watch that much TV? I watch like 6 shows a week tops. And I also watch whenever my Kansas Jayhawks have a basketball game on tv... Or the Kansas City Chiefs.
And I already feel like I watch too much TV. If Tivo makes me want to watch 40 shows a week, I don't want it.
Yeah, this is great until CBS decides to air a basketball game in that time slot, or they start showing reruns, or they decide to run a special 2 hour CSI season finale, or you run out of tape.
Worst case scenario: I miss taping the show. So I will go download the HDTV version torrent from suprnova and watch it on the computer. So what.
I must be smarter than the average bear, but my VCR is set to tape my shows every week. I only program it once.
For instance, I set my VCR to record CBS between 8-10pm every Thursday to catch "CSI" and "Without a Trace". I do the same for every other show I want to watch. I don't have to worry about it remembering to tape. Only once did I not have a tape rewound to tape everything.
We usually watch them over the weekend. I can't pause live TV, but I still save myself 1/3rd of every program time I watch by fast forwarding through the commercials.
Maybe I'm unusual, but I would guess I'm not the only one that does this. It no different than using a DVR or TIVO for it. This is not a new threat to advertisers.
Those are jobs that will go to local/regional contractors to install the equipment. The contract for the equipment will hopefully go to a manufacturer where lots of engineers are employed along with many other workers. All those people Pay income taxes, all those people consume goods and services.
Its the usual circular reasoning that spending money creates jobs and results in more and more spending in the economy/government.
Yes, but your toothbrush came about by random chance over millions of years of mutation, and begans as protein and plasma. Whereas mine was created by a Intelligent Design.
As someone who just went to a Kansas City Chiefs game. I can definately say that watching it on TV has many benefits (read-it would save me $150 per game, and I don't have to freeze my butt off). I hope I can continue to do that. By the way, were 8 and 0.
you are correct. It is 41 percent. The 9 of 10 was evidently a stat about fatalities after midnight on weekends. That was the number stuck in my head for some reason. my most sincere apologies.
Statistics would show otherwise, and I'm not your sugar. 9 of every 10 fatalities involve a driver under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Does that mean that 9 out of every 10 driver is under the influence of drugs or alcohol? I doubt it.
What exactly is your point? You want legalize drugs for minors? How do you suggest it should be controlled?
I personally think that so many minors get cigarettes and alcohol because store vendors (legal retailers) sell it to them. Or someone purchases it for them from legal vendors. so... legalizing it for some would more widely distribute it for all.
>
Well, obviously we don't have any statistics to back up that statement yet, Do we? But I would assume that rate would greatly increase if drugs were cheaper and more easily accessible.
My point, idiot, was that legalizing things doesn't prevent kids from using them. EVER. Its called sarcasm. Its right on the store shelf next to a clue.
Tell that to the highway patrolmen that get to inform the families of drunk-driving victims. Not everyone will consume these newly-legal drugs at home (and stay there). They aren't worried about the safety of the people that are already using them.
NO, the French just oppose anything the US proposes. As long as the French are making money off of Iraq and their oil, they don't give a shit how many people they kill.
yes, I do. I have one computer that I install the things that I need to work ALL the time. I have never reinstalled windows on it. It has also never crashed. It runs WinXP Office XP, Quicken, CD-Burning, Internet Browsing, and my TV Tuner card. It is also not overclocked (OK, at least not very much)
All my other machines work 80-90% of the time, and I do reinstalls when I add new major hardware like a Video Card, or do new projects such as MythTV or the Mame Box I just built. I overclock them until they fail and then back off a tad (or turn up the voltage). If they fail, I don't care. And I end up doing reinstalls often because of this.
by the way, new installs can be unattended for the most part. I just start them and check on them every 15 minutes or so. If something doesn't work right, its a heck of a lot easier to re-ghost my "fresh" install than to try to troubleshoot when I don't have any idea what the problem is.
Its a whole lot easier for people like me that don't really want to learn why windows is crashing. We just want it to work.
I can only answer for myself, but I have been pretty disappointed with my AIW card. I don't even use the media portion of it anymore.
-I was constantly upgrading hoping that the new software would fix the bugs that I was fighting. It still has not resolved my biggest Bug. -my RF remote control (that is supposed to work through walls) wont work from accross the room. -I have to download TV data for 9billion channels just to get the channel listings for the 3 channels I actually watch. -The video quality of my AIW7500 is very poor compared to my live TV, even in Live (not encoded/decoded time-shifting mode). -The $50 Leadtek TV Card I bought to replace it has less features but less bugs and better video quality
I am a huge ATI video card fan, but couldn't be more disappointed by these all-in-wonder cards I purchased.
I haven't seen anything that would turn one computer into two seperate computers. Thats closer to what I am looking for, but not exactly. What I would really like is to have both users be able to control windows on either monitor simultateously.
And as an added bonus, be able to have two different cursors on the same window would be great.

Try this with 40 shows

I'll believe that when I see it. Tried talking to Claire at SPRINT lately?
I can fix that problem the dell way... Just leave a USB device plugged in. Don't forget to pay the receptionist on the way out.
This worked out to my advantage. I still use my Yahoo account, but they send spam to my (primary) college address that got deleted when I graduated.

2 15. You need to lay off the drugs man, seriously.
I may be clueless, but at least I have a spine.

yes... because we all know that no one underage ever gets cigarettes or alcohol. That method works like a charm.
