A study of total costs of ownership over five years for working corporate infrastructure shows that lower staffing expenses are a large part of an 11-22% cost advantage for Windows...
Where was Linux in 1998? Not even close to where it is today. If you compared Linux and Windows over the next 5 years, the TCO would favor Linux over Windows hands down.
I hope this would help with all of the random 500 errors and missing images that folks randomly get. Id also like to see something else than Times New Roman:)
Relax, everytime one service/company gets bought by a bigger one, folks flip out. Yes, sometimes larger companies have sinister motives but most of the time it is in the best interests of both companies and the industry. Corporate backing == more money == better products (hopefully)
This is just the market in action. Companies hire folks when they need them and release them when they cant afford them anymore. Every other industry operates the same, its just new to us:) In a few short years, there will be a recession of jobs in the technology industry and the whole cycle will repeat itself
He pretty much dodged that question. He made a vague reference to locking down pcs and how linux is much better at it ? Sorry but you can do that on windows as well.
Folks have said this before but it bears repeat, oss shouldnt be trying to clone windows, it should be trying to innovate something new...but hey what do i know
because there is nothing worth watching. Networks like Fox cancel all the good shows (e.g. Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Family Guy, Firefly etc). All thats left on network TV is reality tv garbage in my opinion
I think that many people are finally latching onto the concept that freedom to live safely is more important than freedom to be a criminal.
I like that.
Personally, the govt spying on me doesnt bother me a lick, its what is done with the info they collect is where it gets sticky. I have no problem with the govt expanding its powers to spy/probe whatever as long as they are used legitimately. AFAIK (though i could be wrong), no one really undeserving has had the PATRIOT act invoked against them?
Its a binary that was put on an ftp server, explain how it being written for a windows platform and being closed source has anything to do with that?. Believe it or not, not everyone can make a profit by giving away software and selling support (os model i believe). OSS isnt the answer to everything and isnt a quick fix.
I know this has been mentioned before but ill repeat it because I believe it to be true. No one will never, repeat NEVER, stop piracy. The solution is to make the movies (or any product for that matter) actually worth paying for. Most movies have gone up in price (as have the actors pricetags) and down in quality. People are tired of it. Even if youre going to keep making crappy movies, at least show some other cool stuff in the theaters (maybe a behind the scenes type of thing for 30 mins after the movie ends?) Anyway, if you have a good product, people will pay for it
If you read the article, they mention the only reason they arent using Java is because FreeBSD doesnt have decent threads support. Perhaps if the major bulk of their systems ran a different OS, they might use j2ee?
Is it me or do the folks at Netscape (now at AOL) have a problem trying to sell or get people to use an abysmal product (JavaScript) by naming it after something successful just to help people put two and two together? It annoys tech folks and confuses the hell out of normal folks.
every few weeks one of the execs from Microsoft renews their focus on security...as if it should even expire? i dont feel like digging through old stories but there have been at least 3 in recent memory (
actions speak louder than words.
Its also worth noting that they ship first class mail so it usually takes 1-2 days for your cd(s) to arrive. If i place my order monday morning or early afternoon, i get my package on wednesday. Note I live in Pennsylvania and they ship from Oregon

Was this bug introduced in 2.4.23 or has it been in the 2.4 series all along ?
I just got an 10GB iPod for Christmas and I was curious how the iPod holds up on a treadmill or a jog around the track?
Im also curious about how iTunes works? If i download some songs on my laptop and can move/play them on my home computer as well?
Latest from the Swagger novels. I suggest starting with 'Hot Springs' and reading the entire series. He is a fantastic writer

If its set to block those sites out of the box, surely it can be made to unblock them or remove those sites from the 'weapons' category?

Dont missions into 'deep space' take longer than human life expectancy? I think it would be prudent to work on making humans immortal first :)

Actually it is. If you look closely, there is a sidenote on the lefthand side that contains a top 10 list. Strange way to format the article though
They are having issues with the moderation system and their systems in general. More info in Cmdr Tacos journal
