  1. Over 5 years ? on Microsoft Rolls Out New Anti-Linux Ad Campaign · · Score: 5, Insightful

A study of total costs of ownership over five years for working corporate infrastructure shows that lower staffing expenses are a large part of an 11-22% cost advantage for Windows...

Where was Linux in 1998? Not even close to where it is today. If you compared Linux and Windows over the next 5 years, the TCO would favor Linux over Windows hands down.

Every other industry operates the same, its just new to us :) In a few short years, there will be a recession of jobs in the technology industry and the whole cycle will repeat itself

He pretty much dodged that question. He made a vague reference to locking down pcs and how linux is much better at it ? Sorry but you can do that on windows as well.

Folks have said this before but it bears repeat, oss shouldnt be trying to clone windows, it should be trying to innovate something new...but hey what do i know

I think that many people are finally latching onto the concept that freedom to live safely is more important than freedom to be a criminal.

    I like that.

Personally, the govt spying on me doesnt bother me a lick, its what is done with the info they collect is where it gets sticky. I have no problem with the govt expanding its powers to spy/probe whatever as long as they are used legitimately. AFAIK (though i could be wrong), no one really undeserving has had the PATRIOT act invoked against them?

  18. Solution to piracy.. on Oscar Screener Ban to be Revoked for Academy Members · · Score: 0

I know this has been mentioned before but ill repeat it because I believe it to be true. No one will never, repeat NEVER, stop piracy. The solution is to make the movies (or any product for that matter) actually worth paying for. Most movies have gone up in price (as have the actors pricetags) and down in quality. People are tired of it. Even if youre going to keep making crappy movies, at least show some other cool stuff in the theaters (maybe a behind the scenes type of thing for 30 mins after the movie ends?) Anyway, if you have a good product, people will pay for it
