    One one hand, a bunch of Iraqis with burns they can claim was caused by the Great Satan's hellfire gun is about the last thing we need. On the other hand, it's better than giving them a sudden case of lead poisoning.

    I just give my users a Stage 1 Gentoo install. If they don't have KDE up and running by the end of the day, they're gone.

    In all fairness, a 'test' like what you suggested is a good idea. I work at a large defense contractor, and I have a good idea why it costs $500 for a hammer. 'Software Engineers' that can't grasp basic concepts like source control. One told me that instead of using this complex subversion, we should just pass around tarballs of our source code. Another person brought on to administer our build server didn't understand what SSH was.

    Maybe I don't get it, but there are hundreds of sighted cats that are put down every day in shelters around the US. How about giving your blind cat the gift of mercy and adopting a new cat?

    NOTE: Poster may be bitter about (1) having a finance whose apartment is infested with a cat and (2) being allergic to the damn things.

    It was actually the Polish that did most of the cracking of Enigma. The British just took their work, automated it, and produced ULTRA.

    I don't like making assumptions, but I do believe that the British police are part of the British Government. Odds are they have access to some systems inside the Government network that commoners don't, and could leverage that to get access to what they wanted.

    not to mention that Microsoft would then have 2^n versions of windows to test, instead of just 3 (Diet Windows, Regular Windows, Server Windows).

    I don't even understand 21. In theory, the reason we have an age limit of 21 for booze is because the brain is still developing up until age 21, so alcohol might stunt that growth.

    at 18, you are legally an adult. I expect to be treated like one.

    It's ok to actively recruit 18 year olds and send them to real violence in Iraq, but it's not ok for a 29 year old to play fake violence.

    Also, why 30? Why not 21? 18? It's one thing if the government regulates what can be sold to minors without their parent's permission, but what exactly gives them the right to arbitrarily block adults from something?

    Damn hypocrites. Keith Wright, feel free to exercise your right to bite me.

    He did spam, but most of the years he got were for phishing, which is just fraud.

    It would be like if I were to break into someone's house, shoot them, get arrested and the papers were to read "Lord_Slepnir gets Lethal Injection for violating recently passed handgun bill!"

    This is where the slashdot moderation system breaks down. Currently the comment is "80% funny, 10% overrated, 10% troll". It is at +5, but I'm going to lose two karma for it anyway.

    And before anyone responds with "But smart-ass comments like yours don't enhance the discussion", Just set Funny to be -5 for you. Problem solved. Or grow a sense of humor.

    They do, they're just harder to track than radar guided missiles. It's basically a "Interesting, there's now a small object traveling at Mach 8 right for me" kind of system.

    Just last week, on a connector flight from Des Moines International Airport to Minneapolis, we came under heavy flak around Albert Lea. Don't believe what the pilot is telling you: This is NOT turbulence, it's the Terrorists with Flak 88s trying to shoot down airliners. Should the Democrats ever surrender a supply of shoulder-launched heatseaking missiles to the Terrorists, this system will save countless lives.

    Off-topic, but does anyone know where I can get a lithium refill around here?

    They already made a sequel to Maniac Mansion. It was called "Day of the Tentacle". Very fun game, and there was even an easter egg where you could play the original Maniac Mansion on a computer in one of the character's rooms.

    I got mine at a midnight launch. Aside from some sky high latency issues, the servers held up. Much better than the regular launch. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go convince my boss I suddenly caught the flu. out of no where. For only a couple of days.

    The only problem I see right now is that right now the Pirate Bay is operating inside a real country. If they move to sealand, what's to stop the MPAA/RIAA from buying an old Russian Bomber / Diesel Sub / whatever and just destroying the whole platform? Or hiring someone to plant C-4 on the base of hte structure and blowing it up? Further, Sealand only exists because the British have decided it's more trouble than it's worth to just invade it. What if the Brits get pressured into eliminating this grave threat to the international recording industry?
