Despite tuition, college student's are not generally paying directly for specific internet connectivity. It's provided. If ISP's were to institute this idea, I only have one word for them. Backlash.
Only after a port has used up all possible usefullness. When all the parallel printers and external modems are "recycled"(Sent to China) and no networking company uses the serial Console port on their products anymore. THEN, you can get rid of those legacy ports. Think about the people trying to abolish floppy drives from computers... Is making a boot CD as easy as making a boot floppy? Are you going to use a 700 MB CD-R for a 40k document?
I think I'll wait for a more mature release before I go replacing my Award BIOS. As much as I love open source stuff, I don't want to deal with my BIOS being screwed up at the moment.
What a wonderful product Anti-Leech.com has. I went to their example page, and it checked if I had any pop-up blockers. The sample pop-up came up, and didn't close. Then it brought me to a page that said "Access Denied... You are stealing by blocking pop-ups..blablabla" The funny part of this is, I was using Internet Explorer 6 with no pop-up blocker.
I believe it mentioned in the article that the particle entered the earth through someplace in Antarctica. But you also have to remember, this is the size of a cell. And according to previous calculations, even if it released the energy of 1 unit of TNT, it would still be difficult to find the impact zone in such a barren and hostile landscape. Would you like to go look for it? Take a jacket.
I have an x86 system. That gives me 2 options, Windows or *nix, technically also Solaris but, that doesn't even count. I run both, so that I get the best of both worlds. But, I do find I spend more time in Windows, and the reason behind that, is that I'm a Counter-Strike addict. Although, it's possible to run CS through WineX in Linux, I'm just not convinced it's as fast or as good as in Windows. Also, I hate X. I despise X. I wish it would die, and someone would develop a sane windowing system, and make it the ONLY one. No more KDE, Gnome, bla,bla,bla... Just make it standard!! I like the direction Redhat and UnitedLinux are going with this problem.
U know... I didn't used to care much at all about my online privacy, because I really didn't do anything worth hiding. But now with the government watching every single thing I do, and now looking for terroristic PATTERNS electronically, I suddenly feel the need for encrypted everything, and a Fort Knox-style firewall.
I have noticed one side-effect of having/. as my homepage. Whenever I go online to do something, I get sucked into an article, and forget what I was doing in the first place. I still haven't decided whether this is a good or a bad thing...
Online music sharing already is a reality, and it's going to stay that way, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it. BTW: I suggest reading an article on Slashdot about how COPYRIGHT PROTECTING CD'S IS A USELESS MEASURE.
Please do not plan on getting my business, ever. Thank you, A Music Listener
I talked to some people at WinBeta, the alleged leakers of these SS's. And they seem to be sticking to their story. I guess we'll have to wait it out some more to find out if it's real. But frankly, I trust the guys at WinBeta.
I think they pretty much pulled that one out of their @$$... I can't think of anyone putting restrictions on a CPU or OS, would make it more stable. More of a pain in the ass.. yes..
I was just about to post this exact same thing. Good point. Perhaps the author of this article should have put a little more research into his piece...
I've always wanted to skydive while inside my car. Oh, wait... if I wanted to do that I could always drive off a cliff, granted the results would be a little more permanant... =)
Eh.. it's not that bad of a bug, but I patched it already. I love Mozilla it's so great. You get everything that every other browser has PLUS more. And it's open source! What more could you ask for?
Off-topic? Now that wasn't very nice... I was just typing a short little thing, so that I could get the first comment. Call me a troll or whatever, but in actuality I am not a Mac user or anything of that order. I guess I should have just said "FIRST POST!!!".. maybe I wouldn't have been flamed. Then again, this is Slashdot, what am I saying...

Sounds great, just tell me how you're gonna use one of those with no OS. Maybe if BIOS can support drivers for them.
There is no article....
Thanks, that's a good idea. I'll have to look at that.

one can only hope this is a joke....
Shouldn't someone host a mirror in case we slashdot IBM? =)

multiple rocket drives in parallel
I wish I could afford one.

These would be a dream for LAN parties... F*** the flat screens, just grab your monitor, and roll it up!
Eh... she's half there already...

Sounds cool.. can't wait for these to show up.
HAHAH! You love it Intel! Let's see your 10 nanometer transistor. Well we probably will soon, but whatever...
