Is any form of nuclear power renewable? Can we recycle any waste? No? Let's skip this one then. We already have plenty of non-renewable, non-recyclable power generators. Maybe we should ask the politicians to stop taking bribes from people whose hands are filthy with oil and politely request more effort in the area of renewable energy. How about not using so much energy in the first place? I remember my last visit to Vegas, seeing a casino front wide open to the outside with a veritable wall of air-conditioning blasting from the ceiling above the opening. Never have I seen such wasteful energy consumption. Without doubt, nuclear power has a major waste management problem. I don't think the same thing applies to PhotoVoltaics or wind turbines. If this really is news for nerds about stuff that matters, well this matters and yet I have read far too much from some nerds who are willing to endanger their chilrens-childrens-childrens-childrens... lives to the half-life of stuff that anti-matters. http://www.homepower.com Get on the right track.

Well, I thought I was the only one with a real bug story, but this posting proves I wasn't the first. Nonetheless ......

I have been developing code for 30 years now.
Early on in my career, in the era of large decks of punch cards, I dropped a deck of cards on the floor.
I picked them up and put them back in the right order (an ugly job).
When the job was submitted and the print-out eventually returned (1 day turnaround), the compile failed. I was surprised as the deck was basically unchanged from a previous run.
I checked the output and discovered a syntax error. I then checked the card deck and discovered an insect that had gotten squished into a hole punched in a card, which changed the resultant character and caused the syntax error.

Nowadays, my bugs are all my very own.

I found this quite difficult as the language totally sucks. I can't believe that this language, which isn't all that old, doesn't have parameters which can be returned from a subroutine (without using globals).

    • Less heat generated
    • Completely silent
    • Less affected by temperature
    Disadvantages of flash memory:
    • Slower access times
    • Smaller transfer rates

No seriously, there would appear to be a surfeit of conflict at the current time, so I don't view any of the above as even remotely good suggestions, but it's easy to get carried away.

If I were a music industry executive, I would have thought that even now, it's still not too late to look for a solution. Disband your cartel and stop using an obsolete business model. You still have (some of) the recording artists on your side. Use this remaining goodwill to start a new business:

    1. Offer your customers value for money.
    2. Stop paying artists astronomical contract signing bonuses. This will dramatically reduce the risk in your current business model and at the same time increase the variety of music that you can promote - which should cause an increase in sales.
    3. Start paying the artists a decent amount for each CD sold (unlike the present) and be honest about the sales (unlike the present).

Here's a simple compromise: If you charge a reasonable price for music, your customers will be reasonable about copying it.
