  1. Bust those trades on The 3 Billion Dollar Typo · · Score: 4, Informative

Most exchanges will call the members who have accidentally benefited from another member's mistake and ask them politely to agree to void the deal. Although not obligated to do so, most brokerages typically honor this request as they have to assume that they will be the next ones to make a mistake.

On behalf of the less-bigoted, may I say I am ecstatic that there are two (three?) cpu companies to choose from. This means I can buy whoever's cpus are currently the best and that there is competition to make them all try harder. For those of you who [hate Intel | love AMD | hate AMD | love Intel] I only hope you actually benefit from this chauvinism. Perhaps you have shares in one or the other. Perhaps you work for one or the other. Whatever. The rest of us should be buying on the merits of whatever is currently available. I am buying AMD64 cpus at the moment. Prior to that I was buying AMD Athlons. Prior to that I was buying Pentium IIIs. I have also had good success with Cyrix in the past. Lave the bigots to scream and shout. Please buy on technical merits. May the best cpu manufacturer of the moment win.

In other news, I see that the latest Star Wars movie has been found roaming around the P2P world on the Internet.

    So is the solution:

    1. Everyone should share/download copyrighted works.
    2. No-one should ever use P2P again, even if it can have useful and 100% legitimate applications.
    3. The RIAA/MPAA/etc should learn that this type of behavior is highly counterproductive to their goals.
If (like me) you think the last choice is the best, what appropriate sanction can be put upon them that law-abiding netizens would agree with?

Let's get something moving please. But what?

    Unfortunately, I cannot buy one.
    GM has stopped.
Toyota's electric RAV4 is only available for fleet purchases.
Ford has stopped making the electric Ranger.
A golf cart won't cut it for me.

    It's a shame.
If anyone can recommend an electric car available for NJ, I'm listening.

Incidentally I recommend www.evworld.com for alternative fuel cars, but it has recently become a subscription site :-(

  10. Good for Gertrude on The 83-Year-Old Dead File Swapper · · Score: 4, Interesting

I personally lament Gertrude's passing away. What a great memorial. Just prior to death, put a file server away in a hidden closet in a house with many years of ISP paid for in advance. Serve up those files with no possible recourse from RIAA and other leeches. Maybe a foundation could be started such that the file repository is transferred from near-death person to near-death person. As the slow wheels of the RIAA start legal proceedings, the person becomes beyond even their reach. Not so much the "make a wish" foundation as the "make a statement" foundation.

This pyramid of suckers continues until enough of them decide that buying a virtual grain of sand on a virtual beach on a virtual island isn't worth either one virtual or real cent, whereupon the virtual volcano on the island will explode, destroying all real evidence of a scam and the perpetrators will go off with the profits and take over Worldcom, Enron etc,.

Too many developers let their skills languish over time.
    • Keep your business knowledge current.
Too many developers focus only on their computer skills and fail to keep up with business trends in their sector - or ignore any aspect of business altogether and remain pure developers.
