What I first though about when I read this story was..
We should clean the host's genome and then defrag it!
We need some ad-aware like tool to clean the genome!:-)
I guess this is a new form of car analogies.
Now what would be really good would be to know if this dna can become a parasite again in any way...
And if so.. what triggers it?!!:P
I think this is a simplistic approach to Online Social Networking. The plea in the end to contribute more perspectives just stresses that. There are as many perspectives as people involved in (online or offline) social networking. IMHO the only insight I can contribute is that networking is a human trait that we carry to every medium we use to communicate with. When you contribute to a network you get more than what you put in. I think an analysis of peer-to-peer networking, with contributors, leechers, etc. would show the dynamics very clearly and that could be extrapolated to a lot of human networking activities, i.e.: The economy.
Well, this is MY rambling contribution to this topic anyway.
I find the repetition of the word "perspective" in the article deeply annoying.:P
I was 11 y.o. in 1984, got a Timex Sinclair 2068 for Christmas (they were being dumped into Argentina, where I live).
I got that manual (basically the same as the ZX Spectrums) and in a couple of weeks was writing Basic programs.
It was really my way into programming. I think the manual was as important as the machine.
I DID stumble when I got into 4th dimension Matrices, though.
The book said something like "If you can draw a 4th dimension Matrix, then you dont need to be reading this book":P
I totally agree. I used to be a sinclair spectrum user and quite a fanboy at that. I remember marveling over how programmers squeezed the juice out of those machines. Programmers used all kinds of tricks and I guess somehow forced them to innovate. (I loved the software releases from Ultimate, now Rare. And coin-op conversions like the masterful R-Type) On the other hand miniaturization is growing (no pun) exponentially... Look at what happened with PS2, in half the time it took to "shrink" the original PS into PSone, they did a "slim" PS2. With miniaturization comes more power (or at least faster and cheaper) so at this stage the turnover rate for products is this: FAST. All I can say is kudos to Apple for trying to remain on top of the wave and pushing the envelope. Competition is healthy for the industry. I believe that "stalling" periods or "maturation" periods for software ultimately arrive naturally...See what happens with Windows...(I know it is NOT the greatest example of a mature product.hehe) but the installed base is so big that forcing change becomes daunting, therefore allowing time for the technology to mature. Apple's trick (or goal) is to keep or increase their market share and "force" a change or upgrade of all it's installed base every 6 months or so. The question is...when will this tip? when will the installed base get so big as to prevent further (or at least as fast) change??
p.s.:This ramblings come out of me after a dinner in a chinese restaurant where I ate eels, pork, fish, crabs, banana dumplings and a lot of beer. So mod me as you like...All I care about now is HOW I am gonna get to my bed!!!;-)
I might be wrong, but Silicon On Insulator is a technology that already is being used in some chips. I would love to see IBM stick to this 6ghz claims... If so... it would be great for everybody. Apple can always "switch-back".. Or simply never "leave"...I guess from past experiences we can say that Mr. Jobs never burns any bridges...

Plus there was a much more detailed Wall street journal Article (very well written, BTW), but seems now to be either in the Archives of the WSJ or unavailable to me.
This was a mini-enron-like story.
I am sorry my poor english skills irritated your sensitive retina.
I'll leave you now to continue writing whatever it is you write that will prolly get you the booker prize or the pulitzer.;)
Come on people!!! I do tech support for 60+ machines at work... The one user that refused to use firefox... called me a week ago.BEGGING..Her computer had started TALKING (i.e. audio advertisements in english) The people in the other cubicles were claiming for an EXORCIST for the biatch.
I am using Leadtek's PVR software for the WINFAST 2000 TV tuner.
It has time shifting, burns directly to DVD or VCD.
The guys from Leadtek updated the drivers for my old card and the pvr software(it didnt work on WIN XP) and now I have a decent PVR.
It's an elCheapo solution, but pretty decent app nonetheless.
(The Winfast XP version comes with Stereo and SAP, the older ones do not)
Obviously you don't understand... It's MICROSOFT. If it were a Japanese company you would never get it first outside Japan. And BTW , it probably exists in Japan a prototype console that has 10 times more power than all existing ones, interfaces directly and wirelessly with your brain, and possibly runs on whale oil fuel cells. It's a Sony.
I agree but personally I don't like creating playlists, kind of bores me.
I just shuffle or "DJ" on the spot;).
But you are right nonetheless.
I guess I will give playlists a try!:P
p.s.:70GBs of music! Now I have Gigabyte envy! Damn!
4GB doesnt cut it for me, 6GB is just about right for my music collection. (plus some podcasts) The colors.... well I Agree with the first poster, people LIKE the colors and most likely you will see an ipod nano with colors or mini nano or whatever they choose to call it. (and also 6gb or MORE) apple is just testing the waters with this one. Tubes, socks and the like are (IMHO) uncomfortable and unnecesary unless you are a little anal (ok a LOT) because this is , in the end, a PORTABLE device. To be enjoyed!!! not to be kept in blankets. Ok those were my 2 cents.
Yesterday I went to a client's home that has 2 PCs and 2 Macs, they are the Design/Publicity kind of crew.
They are utterly unaware of the switch, and believe me, the will remain so AFTER it.
IBM is probably right in pursuing this path, but I dont honestly see embedded/game consoles taking over corporate turf anytime soon.
After reading TFA y think it would be possible to use a modem as input for the telephone.
Is this possible, difficult? I am just pitching the idea.
Anyway this chatcord is a nice project for this weekend!! heee!:P
Actually a religious-themed cellphone line is not a bad idea, I can picture the flavors now.. Kabbalah, Jesus&Mary set, Krishnaphone....and of course muslim too!!
Just kiddin, but you KNOW someone is gonna make them
eventually.
I remember seeing the Dreamcast in action and thinking the graphics were awesome.
The Xbox, besides having better graphics than the gamecube has a different "feel" to them (I know this sounds vague, but I cant justify the difference by hard facts or a logical explanation)
We will just have to wait and see how the "revolution" fares.
I root for them also for nostalgic reasons, my first handheld game was Mario Bros Game and watch.:)
http://users.forthnet.gr/ath/dgourlis/mario.jpg
Will check your blog later!;) bye.
I agree with you, but you have to take into consideration that MS second place in market share is still not getting them any real profit, while nintendo is a financially clean operation, of course MS can wait until the xbox starts being profitable for as long as they want, but that doesn't make the xbox a better console or signal that last time Nintendo missed the boat.
MS enters a market and forces its way in.
Call me an idealist but I hope that nintendo will prevail;)
Well,I guess that it is another way to look at it.
My gut feeling is, nevertheless, that rare will return to program for nintendo at some point.
(or is it just wishful thinkin?);)

Yeah, for a moment I thought I missclicked and was reading The Onion. :-)
I totally agree.

I thought that being slashdot I would find more than 1 reference to Shapeley...
If you take into account "Ramona" Kurzweil as the real life Idoru.... Is then Gibson the new Nostradamus??
Regardind TFA.... The man should cooperate, least he is afraid of being tested again and be found out positive.
Yo soy de Argentina, tambien lo lei en español. Por suerte nuestra maestra no nos mostro el articulo! :)
I read this in school when i was a child.
;))
It's Horacio Quiroga's short story The Feather Pillow.

So much for fungal spores...try this and you will throw your pillow out the window (or buy synthetics, like the one I have
