The thing is the gamecube WAS DESIGNED to be a little kid's toy. Personally I was hoping (when the gamecube was about to be released) that RARE would pull out some outstanding game (like conker) for the 'cube, so it wouldnt be ONLY a little boy's toy. Shamefully, RARE sold out to M$, and has not released significant software since.
I sincerely hope nintedo releases a standard compliant DVD ROM compatible system here... No one wants to aknowledge it, but the reason the original playstation was SO succesfull was that the games were so easy to copy and therefore EVERYONE was willing to spend a few bucks on the console, as you could get the games dirt cheap later.
Here in South America (I'm from Argentina)
Linux is getting more and more attractive, specially after sucesive devaluations(1 U$s = 3 Pesos)
Most of the budget PCs here come with diffrent flavors o'linux preloaded, but unfortunately ppl get a friend or pay a tech to install copies of Windows, due to the fact that it is the system the know how to use, either because they work in it or they are just plain used to it.
I think Microsoft will eventually release these "crippled" versions everywhere, bundled or otherwise and finally, after ppls complaints will release a "less-crippled" version or reduced priced versions of the originals.
It would be nice to introduce Linux in the corporate scene. It would make a lot of things easier.
Year after year some guru/tech hotshot pronounces the death of a key technology (last year Gates singlehandedly declared the death sentence of DVDs) The truth is that these are plain shots in the dark. IMHO the PC is far from becoming dead, and I am happily watching as tech honchos tear their hairs off as most of the world population refuses to upgrade their equipment/software in 2 year-cycles, and realizes that 1ghz of ANYTHING plus 256MB of ANYTHING plus a 20GB drive is more than plenty for the average user's websurfing, mail-sending and pr0n viewing!:P
From the article.
"It means we can repurpose a lot of old movies, and at the same time it really gives a whole new dimension to the movies we're making now."
Something's loose in there...
I think he means "reheat" like in macaroni...
I like remixes in music, but in movies they just dont feel right (at least to me).
Anyway, that old SouthPark episode when the kids stopped Lucas and Spielberg from messin with "Raiders.." is now bound to have a sequel.:P
I was thinking about the cosmic rays too.
Perhaps in space, analogous processes (but in a larger scale, like a nebula or something) produces the rays.
Just a sci-fi fan speculating here!;)
I was scrolling down the posts, thinking, I should post something about the farting cows....Well I shouldnt, would be modded down in a sec. Oh Wait!!! DisprinDirect has already posted it, perhaps because he is not such a neurotic as I am;).
p.s.:Guiness drinkers SURELY add to the equation....And chili dog farts!
Thank you, you have posted something very close to my actual thoughts. I would like to add that if enough work is put into the engine, the "rules" that shape the randomness, then it would be possible to consider (or to argue that) this is art. The "purpose" is definitely a must. On the other hand, if you pick some of this randomness, frame it, and put it in your living room, then how do you catalog this? Is like picking a seashell and putting it on your desk as decoration I think.
So this is where Donatella got the inspiration for the latest Versace ads!!!
Sexy poses on an office setting!:P

BTW it's really a dissapointment that transmeta wasnt a success, but at least they tried!
In the Happy-go-Lucky nineties here in Argentina, I bought that coffee, which was part of a flood of imports from all over the world, due to the strong Peso (our now battered currency:P)
I remember that it was in 1995, september (I was developing a hellish app for a pointy haired boss i still can't forget, so trust me on the date) Tha coffee was Korean, and not at all that bad.
It made me wonder how does the calcium interact with the flavor and also if there is a health risk in it. I drank it nonetheless!! Careless youth!;)
If you want to work for a big name corporation (whether it is IT oriented or not) a well known degree helps. On the other hand I agree with the person who posted above, experience is key. Also there is a supposed "glass ceiling" that prevents you to get the top gun job if you are not from a big name U. This tends to be true, but you can easily circumvent it with good contacts;). If you are not crazy about the corporate world (and believe me, you SHOULDNT) stay where it feels good and enjoy.
The common saying goes "Plant a tree, have a child, write a book" before you die.
I think reading the lists is ok.
Taking it seriously..Is seriously wrong;)
Yes I was aware of this but you are right, It should be taken into account that this are cells from an adult.
On the other hand, I am thinking round and round on what is the problem of , say taking cell from my hand, zap them with electricity and manufacture some stem cells or taking them from my bone marrow.(I UNDERSTAND that zapping them would be creating the possibility of an embryo, but for me these are just cells. The POSSIBILITY shouldt be a deterrant I think. If this were the case, people who grom skin for burnt peoples transplants are being unethical due to the fact that the tissue COULD be used to form an embryo?
Just thinking out loud.
Success stories like this have popped up all over the world lately (although none as wonderful as this last one). A couple of weeks ago, a brazilian woman who had recently had a stroke was helped by a stem cell transplant. Although doctors claim the healing could have happened naturally, they also report that "there is biological activity (in the area affected by the stroke)... " Interesting, let's hope all these stories help build a united front. The link here http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=3 1&art_id=qw1100886480700B243
"Apart from making blockbuster films, Cameron explores the depths of the oceans and is a member of the NASA Advisory Council and the Mars Society." And dont forget...He's also the self appointed "King of the World";-)
Here in Argentina, an HBo programme (Called Epitaphs) was advertised via this method just three months ago. I agree about the low quantity of users, but cell phones are and will be growing exponentially against land lines (here there are actually MORE cell phone line than land lines, the numbers tipped this fall). What I am worried about is.. PERSONAL BLIPVERTS?!!!???
Quebec is certainly hiring. Yesterday I received a "Quebec land of opportunities" email. Based on my bumeran.com.ar account (Argentine equivalent of jobshark) where i am listed as an IT worker, they determined that I was suitable for emigration to Canada!, so they invite you to some info meetings in different places to show you what you need to actually emigrate. Here's the link (It's in Spanish) http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca /espagnol/ buenos_aires/seance_esp.asp
I have it running WITH office:mac 2004 on an Athlon XP 2600+ Barton (1.98ghz) 512MB RAM.
The new version of PearPC takes advantage of hardware video acceleration so my old radeon9200 64mb is helping a lot.
Anyway it is usable.I have been able to see quicktime trailers without a hitch.
The only thing is, when will the get to emulate sound??!!

He is speaking out of frustration.... :P
I really can't blame him....After 5 years as tech support I know where the frustration comes from,
(I hope there is no way to mod this as "Pathetic"!!)

$100 for full system reinstall.(if drivers and whatnots are provided)
These days I am installing Firefox in every machine and my customers are soooo grateful.
