I have been misunderstood here. What I meant was, that traffic hardly produces costs, building up and maintaining the network infrastructure does that. So, there is no sensible reason for billing by traffic instead of having a fixed rate where the price depends on bandwith only.
If the net was "public space", I'd never pay an ISP for it, as he can't sell me what doesn't belong to him. That would be like some company charging the people for using public roads.
Best solution for the billing problem: as traffic produces no real cost, only flatrates should exist.

For basically the same thing, e. g. WinNT Workstation and Server, which differ in 3 reg keys, they charge different prices, and it's said to be illegal to change this three keys. This would be the same if a car manufacturer would forbid you tuning your car!

And why do so many criminals have guns in the US? Because they are so easily available and therefore uncontrollable! It's not that easy to get a gun illegally if you do not know the right people, not just because it's illegal, but because the number of guns is far less than in the US. Prices for illegal guns are much higher here also.
Just look around, here in Germany the average criminal doesn't carry a gun like he does in the US!
It's also the people's mind what makes the difference, here it is highly unusual to carry a gun, if not for special purposes like working for the police or some security service. Even the security guys in the bank I work do not carry a gun!
A ban of firearms for sure would not stop every criminal from having a gun, but if carrying a gun became more unusual in the peoples' mind, much less criminals would carry one!

The availability of firearms in the US is the cause for tens of thousands of deaths! Just look at the strict German firearms laws here and then have a look at the number of people being murdered. The real solution for such bad things is to shape society in a way that people are less greedy and more caring and understanding, so people don't resort to violence so easily.

I'd not work in a company which wants to invade my privacy. This is as misplaced as mandatory drug tests! The only things my employer has to care of is who I am, that I'm qualified for my job and that I do it well. Everything else has not to be of interest for them.
