the adaptation is made by the merchant in the first place. when the merchant adapted the world, he should have thought of all users. a ramp is not a lot more expensive than steps, and everyone can use it. yes, adapting it afterwards is expensive. but why didn't they do it right in the first place? then it WOULDN"T be expensive, and you would have complied with the law. If you dont comply with the law in the first place, don't whine that adaptation is expensive.
>If you subsidize a generic company to produce a product in Africa, they can turn around and sell the same product in Europe/America for only their marginal cost.
they're not subsidized, but the patent on something can be revoked for national disasters. millions of people suffering from a disease counts as disaster, at least I think it does. Any government is perfectly in their right to allow a factory to produce patented goods, effectively putting it in the public domain. Basically, exactly what the US did when it said they were not going to allow patents to slow the development of airplanes in times of war.
btw.. what would you think if the dutch company that holds the patent (actually, I'm not entirely sure if they have the patent..for the sake of the arguement, let's assume they have) on the cure for anthrax decided that they wanted a million bucks per injection, right after the US was hit with a biological attack? the US would force them to deliver at a decent price, or would produce it at a decent price themselves. And good for them. at a point like that, the patent should be declared invalid, at least temporarily.
people may help. but most patents are in the hands of large companies. Companies almost never help, look at the pharmaceutical industry and Africa's AIDS problem.
if TV networks can insert ads in a movie (I highly doubt the director meant for those tampon commercials to be in there), then cleanflicks can remove offensive content. both change the content. I fail to see the difference.
>Does that mean that my brother can not associate with his own family members for a period of 24 months after leaving the company?
no, it means he cannot actively pursue his family-members as clients for his new employer or company. However.. if those familymembers decide for themselves that they need another supplier, they're free to seek out your brother, as long as your brother does not initiate contact. At least that's how my employer explained it to me...
all depends on the pressure. water boils at 100 degrees at a pressure of 1 athmosphere. a higher pressure leads to a higher boiling temperature, which is why stuff in a pressurecooker is cooked faster (higher temperature), and also why it's bloody hard to make a decent cup of coffee on top of Mount Everest (boiling temp. approximately 75-80 degrees, IIRC)//rdj

also add to that the fact that with the OGL, other companies publish D&D stuff too. Most is lower in price, and at least some have (IMO) a better lay-out than the hasbro books. Yeah, I use the core rules.. but I don't actually own any of the 'official' books, and will not either. I've completely switched to sword & sorcery material.

works way better to listen to the conversation and butt in. Also rude, but way more fun than a cellphone:)//rdj
that's a case of knowing the local market.. in europe, everyone knows about region-encoding. so the first question is: is it region-free? if not.. is there a free way to get rid of the region (code on the remote.. stuff like that), and if not... how much to get it chipped to make it region-free?//rdj
>They want you to pay twice for the same information!
nah.. they don't care how much or how many times you pay.. as long as you pay them at least once.
not entirely true.. several people I know outside the tech community use ogg. I may have had something to do with it though..

I'm a dutchman... we don't play rugby either, and I watch my 'voetbal' in a coffeeshop.

then again, dutch coffeeshops have about as much to do with coffee as american football has to do with feet (or balls...)
good thing soccer only exists in the US then, the rest of the world plays football. Coincidence? I think not.. ;) //rdj
