From the article:
As for the Apple connection, Schwartz said that the practically every Sun employee owns an Apple desktop at home. "We would love to partner with Apple,' he said. "They're everyone's favorite company, and iTunes is really cool."
Stephenson has always appealed to me as a writer. His writing is eloquent, and he is able to tell a wonderful story. By the time I had finished Cryptonomicon, behemoth that it is, I was craving for more. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of this book!
It won't be any cheaper than existing units, but probably not much more either. Apple has been rather good about keeping the prices for their high end models about the same. Any time something new comes out, an older model drops off, and the next in line assumes the previous price point. I would look to Apple to continue with this methodology.
I have not spent much time in either of those cities. I live in Atlanta and coverage so far has been extremely good. A few times a year when I drive to St. Louis, the coverage drops in parts of southern Illinois, but I'm covered most of the way. The same holds true for my drives to Florida.
I love my mac, I like apple, I even like the iPod, but this is just completely fscking stupid. Who the hell would want one of these? I can see why some little kid might want one, IF the signature were real, but it's not... What's the point? *Sigh*
I purchase plenty of music in CD and LP form. Some of what I listen to is obscure, some of it is quasi-popular, but very little seems to be online anyway. It's much easier and less time consuming for me to go out and buy the stuff from the local non-chain music store.
Occasionally I'll download a track or two to see if I like an album, so I can put it on my "buy" list if I enjoy it. It may take me a while to buy it, but I do if it's available.
*buzzer sound*
Wrong. Both IBM and Motorola make PPC processors. From what I learned in school, that is two vendors, not one. But you probably knew that, which is why you trolled as AC.
Yowch:( That looks like one hell of a fire. I certainly hope there were recent backups. I'll observe a moment of silence for all that data gone up in smoke, and I suggest a 15 ping salute.
That idea may hold true if the only effect of your changing that thing is for yourself. If you change the IMEI # you are affecting the network you are connecting to, potentially circumventing safeguards that have been put in place to prevent fraud. There is no valid reason that comes to mind to change this number. Think of it in terms of changing the VIN # of your car.
Vampires aren't real, and even if they were, it wouldn't be news for nerds, but news for goths. And last I checked, this is slashdot, not slashgoth (down, not across).:)
The Machines that beat the Xserve at Output generation were a Sun Fire 4800 with 12 CPUs, a Sun Fire 880 w/ 4 CPUs, an 8 CPU SGI 3200 and an SGI 300 w/4 CPUs.
Does anyone know what the cheapest one of the above goes for? You can get the base Dual 1 Ghz Xserve for $3999. Do the others come close in price? Unfortunately I don't want to have to have an SGI sales rep contact me to just find out what the price is.
I honestly don't think that the post was meant to demean anyone in that way, but face it, a high end mac can cost you over 3k, when you can put together a really good PC for under 1k. Obviously I can't judge what the original poster meant, but it didn't seem to me to try and knock anyone's income level. I personally can't afford to upgrade my mac (I work tech support), but if I had the cash to get a new one I certainly would love to play with it! In the meantime I'm left with something that I probably _could_ do audio work on, but Logic 5 is probably going to bring to a crawl. I'm not rolling in money (or even sitting on it), and I wasn't offended by the parent post.

Oh come off it, if you don't like the one key keyboard, you can easily plug a multi-key keyboard into your computer! :)
Which is still pretty bad. What if I want to take the laptop to La Paz, Bolivia ?

Super fast, thanks :)

No No NO! You've got it wrong. Every college has a Meth lab.
Notice also that this isn't a duplicate story, and that there are no spelling errors!
There are three kinds of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't.
Uhm, the iPod is available for PC, and not because of great urging, but because it was a good business decision.
Would you guys at least pay _some_ attention ?

T-Mobile (formerly Voicestream) also provides GSM coverage in the US. I use their service and have been pleased so far.

And hey, it may not work.

Strange, I saw one driving around Atlanta about 2 1/2 weeks ago...
