    Who was talking about communicating? I was talking about willfully allowng DRM'd hardware in my office. I can communicate just fine without it. Hell, some people communicate without computers at all.

    What happens once all cable/sat/OTA decoder boxes start to come with Windows Media Center features powered by the East Fork platform? Then how will you get your TV?


    You won't? Can you live with out TV? I can. I mostly do now and losing the little I do watch doesn't scare me.

    Don't buy it. Don't very buy it.

    Or something. Look, if you want to use your media the way you want and not be locked into DRM, don't buy this. Also don't buy RIAA CDs or download from sources you think are too restrictive. If enough people do it, they'll have to change their DRM. If (as I suspect will happen) everybody else in the world is fine with the DRM, then they won't have to change and that will suck. But you don't have to use it, so it shouldn't matter to you.

    Compared to this, yes, pen/paper is better. Compared to a laptop with a keyboard - assuming you can type at least 40-60 wpm and aren't a hunt'n'pecker - pen/paper is horrible.

    all studies are biased and show exactly what the person who is doing
    them want. much like stats, you can make anything prove anything
    through working the #'s and asking the right questions


    Can you prove this with a study? If not, I'll not believe you. I asked 100 people if they thought studies were overblown, and 33 of them said 'yes.' Where's /your/ proof? :D

    phrase found in a file distributed on BitTorrent, then uudecode it,
    then view it with an ascii-art FLI viewer.


    So that means we found another legal use for Bittorrent?

    I am new to Linux, been around computers since the 80's, used to a functional system "out of the box" and don't have time to figure out how to get my network card to work. I installed Sarge on my laptop and couldn't get the NIC to work. I'm not saying it was impossible, just not worth it to me. In tried Ubuntu and, sure enough, it (to quote a phrase) just worked.

    Since then I've put Ubuntu on my main desktop as well, because my experience has been so positive. Did Ubuntu stop two potential installations of Debian? No. Debian stopped that.

    I'm sure this is answered somewhere, but in the "everything is so easy" land of Macintosh, why is it instantly apparent to everybody that to eject a CD you drag the CD icon to the trash bin? When, ever, in real life did you throw a CD (or a CD player) away in order to eject it?

    As someone who likes KDE, let me just say that I don't think Windows is ugly. Windows XP default is ugly, but the look of Windows from Win95/NT4 on (Up to XP) is nice, clean, and functional.

    Maybe, just maybe, the people who don't like Windows aren't the same people who do like KDE?

    Not to "me too!" a comment, but Just yesterday I was driving by a parking lot and in the far corner your standard "crotch rocket" motorcycle was sitting all on its own. I couldn't help but think it was placed there specifically because it would trigger a mini-game.

    Luckily, I live in reality and was amused by that thought, not inexoribly drawn into it like a moth to a flame.

    The choice of what to do with it is in the hands of the creator, not what the masses want.


    Actually, it's more like you create the Awesome-o-matic(tm), show the plans to the Awesome Company, they say they're not going to make it. Furthermore, they say that due to the fact that you went to them with the product, they aren't going to let you produce it at all.
