Back to my original point though, this is a waste of time and money. I am not surprised in seeing members of academia there, wasting my hard earned dollars. Just pass out the tinfoil hats.
Lets work on issues like Inuit's security issues, improving LINUX device support, or even trying to remove the required GEEK Factor (GF-The required amount of technological knowledge to figure something out) to handle LINUX.
Come on guys, can we not do better then that? How about getting all the penis enlargement spam out of my wife's email box and all of the breast enlargement out of mine. At least get the spammer's software hit the right sex of the poor saps they pick on.
So, we have a game that educates us on the UN Humanitarian efforts. So, options will be feed the populace, get kickbacks, or go home?
I would like the UN to live upto its charter and worry about Human Rights and Genocide. BTW, 'Ethnic Cleansing' is a term for Genocide that does not envoke the Genocide Resolution (Resolution 260 (III) A) in the UN Charter.
I think that this is not a big issue, just an announcement that they are planning on doing something. Just a preemptive tactic, probably to generate financing.
As for all the 'End of Microsoft Monopoly', I am not sure this is really a "Good Thing". Yes, the Benevolent Microsoft Monopoly has not been that Benevolent at times, but I view this as the 'Protestant Reformation' for the Consumer IT Service Industry [CITSI] (New useless acronym), where you end up with thousands (actually hundreds) of versions of LINUX because there is always someone who thinks they know better.
For those of us that travel a lot to disparate locations for our jobs, this is useful. I could goto Chicago and find the House of Blues as a nightclub or the Scotch and Cigar Bar at Palmer house. Converting this to use on a mobile just makes sense.
Get a great accountant - Even if you are one. I have an accounting (and systems) background and my accountant is an absolute angel.
Get a good lawyer - If you don't have a lawyer and an accountant, you are stupid - no ifs, ands, or buts.
Bill based off of your market segment. I do systems integration work. I bill by the day, most consultants do. When I did pc tech work, I billed by the quarter hour with a one hour minimum. Certain tasks had a set price and I had a graduated travel charge.
Know your market segment and prepare accordingly. I have all needed software, legally licensed, and need hardware. I also have the capability to burn a large amount of media and carry a lot of storage. I work in BI, so I tend to need it.
Get a clear contract of work, reviewed by your lawyer (did you listen to rule #2)
Make sure there is a strong communication plan with one point of contact
A change-order process that involves someone high enough in the company to prevent significant scope creep. I like VPs. Bill them for increases in scope.
I hear that they are working on ver 2 of this software. It checks for any tax returns and/or money management programs on your pc, calculates your net worth to see if you are worth sueing, generates some infractions on your pc, and signs you up for a law suit.
Is it me, or is there a sever issue with Sony Quality Control the last few years? You would think that they would learn what an effective test plan is after the PlayStation 2 mode switch issue.
If I started company X and implemented a retirement policy that works like Social Security, I would at best get told to change it and at worst would go to jail for a pyramid scheme. It is against the law for a company to implement a system that works just like the social security system.
When I interview, it depends on the resume and the skillset I need. I tend to cover standard logic problems in psuedocode just to see if they can think. I also cover some light real world applications based off the languages the person claims, but not too many esoteric questions. Well, unless someone says that they know everything about a subject. That is when I find out how long before they go insane over windows api calls and what they do. (We are a systems and programing dept that supports mostly windows clients in a large corporation)
I went to the WHY section and the site only qoutes statements from other people, there is no hard facts WHY to change. Because x says something is no reason to switch. Show me real facts. What would be good is something like this:
Because of the acceptance, forced or not, of IE, it is the biggest target on the market to hackers.
Microsoft products generate more patches due to security flaws.
etc...
The website needs to prove its point to convince me. All this has convinced me is that this website states we are better because we are not MS. Come on, the Open Source community can do better.
Anyone ever thought that these 'super secret leaks' are actually feeling out the market without looking like they are feeling out the market? It is a standard IT strategy. Let out a rumor that X is about to happen and see who screams. If no one made noise about it, I would bet highly that xbox 2 would NOT be compatable.
Prove the results. What is the criteria for spyware? What was the size of the survey group? What is the OS breakdown? What was the #s of the types of spyware? Were did the defining list come from? What is the % of error? Prove the % of error.
Doing my part to prove how bent statistic numbers can be
I believe that this will just significantly increase piracy. I for one do not pirate movies, but by god I would start. By one of these and burn a copy for 400 of my closest friends just because.
If you want people to do the right thing, make it the easiest. Lower the price and it becomes easier to just spend a few bucks and buy the non-degrading dvd. Pirating would take too much work. Damd, didn't these guys take basic economics in college?
It is my opinion that the best route to take is to have an 'optional' pvp system. Make the players turn on a feature, or join a faction like SW:G. That way, you know what the hell you are in for and if you complain - well you can stuff yourself into a pringles can before I take you off ignore.
--- Why doesn't life have an effective/ignore flag.
Ten gets you twenty that marketing departments would love this. 'Hey, this is a list of people chating while visiting your website.'
Honestly, I have enough pain in my life listening to winny 15 year olds on xbox talking about what they did with my mother. I have to see my mother daily, man you guys are sick.
The issue is user education. At least 90% of these exploits are published by Microsoft as resolutions and THEN the scum-sucking-basterds (Yes I do mean you) start using them. I am as educated as any of the linux users out there (I run red hat on a box at home), but I run majorly windows. I have never had a virus or had one of my pcs hijacked in the 24 years I have been doing computers, except for a mac on os 7.1.
The virus writers go for the economy of scale. Mac OS X would be targeted by virus writers more if it was more widely distrubuted. Many of the people I know that use it, have OS X because it is easy and they didn't have to do anything to set it up. Can we say ripe for viruses? Let us start seeing some real statistical indicators. Like Original Virii counts to OS instances ratio.
Naw, keeping enviromentalists from messing with global warming. Do you know how GOLLY-GEE-WHIZ COLD it is in Alaska?
Maybe so... reverse marketing

I just want to know which history is being revised? Was it correct it the first place? Why is it being revised?
Let's get serious for a second, using a rts game to teach history is silly. That is what the History Channel is for.
...is this the major issue to worry about?
Come on guys, can we not do better then that? How about getting all the penis enlargement spam out of my wife's email box and all of the breast enlargement out of mine. At least get the spammer's software hit the right sex of the poor saps they pick on.

Oh metric, we use modern BS around here.
We need a conversion factor to BSUs (Bull Shit Units) for all of these standards.

I can see the Army doing this.
Having guys being trained on system security monitor the servers to improve their skills as a training exercise.
Having military lawyers file suits to help them get familiar with the civilian courts.
Of course, a 203 into the pc would just be satisfying.
I will consider moving to a new keyboard when my ol' IBM PS/2 Keyboard dies. As in, when they pull it out of my cold, dead hands.
Let me get my abestose underwear on... ah, ok
