In a percentage of ADHD adults and children their symptoms are largely affected by diet.
I was diagnosed with ADHD as a kid back in 1985 (I'm now 21).
My parents tried a little known diet known as the Feingold Diet (named for Dr Feingold). Essentially the diet excludes most artifical colours and flavours, as well as certain fruits and vegetables.
Best way to start with it is an elimination diet. Eat the "safest" foods only (ie, boring, tasteless, but natural), then gradually add more interesting foods.
As a kid I went pretty hyper when I ate something - as an adult I just get figety and can't concentrate.
This certainly isn't a solution for everyone, but it never hurts to exhaust all possibilities (especially since this way you're not drugged out of your skull on ritalin):)
(Sorry I couldn't elaborate a bit more! I'm at work)
I had a look at his site a while back, and ended up reading about his views on firearms. The guy is totally mad, he thinks guns are wonderful and everyone should have one. (note that I do come from a country without much in the way of guns, I've never even held one).
His religious section really takes insanity to the nth degree. I'd much rather talk to RMS, because although RMS has strong convictions, at least he seems mostly sane.
This is especially true I think of videogames, where everything from the environment (the marketing, the merchandising, the image of the industry) to the peripherals (the laughably phallic joystick, the original Xbox controllers which are too big for my hands, the color scheme of the Xbox) are male-friendly
I'd like to know how she proposes to design a non phallic joystick.
Also, the color scheme is "male friendly"?
How is a primarily colorless (black) console biased towards men? Judging by the number of goth chicks around here I would have thought it was as gender neautral as you could get.
Yet strangely enough they work in my pc. My car CD player seems to have trouble reading the TOC. Burned CD's or older legit CDs work fine. I'm not sure if it's copy protection causing my woes, but being as they are all new CDs, I'm inclinded to think it is.
Now if I buy a CD I have to burn it to play it in my car. If I have to burn it, why am I buying it?
I'm sure w2k is solid for those with low standards and little education ie. used to rebooting every day, and crashes every other day
Actually I use it everyday at work. I reboot it once a month. That's not often enough to really worry me. Before you have a go at me for being a windows user, I work as a Tru64 Sysadmin, and run Linux at home.
and who need "clippy the paper clip" in order to surf the interweb and practice their l33t h4X0r skillz,
Most people I know turn him/it off.
but I run FreeBSD so my standards are somewhat higher
Yes, I'm sure you much prefer the shitty hardware support (no hardware GL or decent SB live support? bah). Windows is a nice desktop OS, it's easy to use, pleasing to the eye, and relatively stable. That said, I prefer to a Linux based OS, as I like to tinker and I like the level I can customise it.
We're loathed because we're successful. Same with the Isrealis. What have you Austrailians done recently? Mick Dundee movies? Fosters?
No, you're loathed for being egotistical and trying to run the rest of the planet in hypocritical fasion.
What has.au done recently? East Timor. Where the fuck was the rest of the world then?
The Imperial system is actually standardized. There are set conversions from metric to imperial. Besides, it's only civilians here that use the imperial system; government, companies, and academia converted ages ago.
Try visiting a decent country sometime where everyone uses the same measurement....
So we're just supposed to let the Isrealis get slaughtered, like you pussy European types do. Fuck you. They have the right not to get blown up while eating lunch too you know.
Well considering that you idiots put them there in the first place and completely destroyed the balance of power in that area....
The market in australia is not as big, not as technological (only about 1 in 40 IT students have a laptop) and therefore stuff is more expensive.
As an Australian IT student, I can tell you that most students don't have them because of the cost. It's not that we aren't as technological, it's just hat we dislike being ripped off.
Besides, I find I can do all my work either on my desktop system here at home, or in the labs at uni with no problems.
I tried it *after* replacing the less than symbols that had vanished. Either the code is fucked, or the Tru64 box I tried it on is in some way not vulnerable to the buffer overflow.
I brought it home for work yesterday (with permission).
It came with a Compaq ES40 server. It's black, has the keys on just the right angles, and it doesn't have those pesky windows keys (being a FreeBSD user, it's not like I need them). It also doesn't use up my minimal desk space with things I don't need, like volume/multimedia/etc controls.
I've always had a distinct preference for "clicky" keyboards, but this one has changed my mind. It has a soft feel and it's very quiet, but it feels fantastic.
Pity I had to order a $AU 130,000 server to get it...
A commander who can make a sarcastic jibe in every second sentence
A scientist who knows every different branch of science at genius level (and always having a wide eyed look gives bonus points)
The token geek who always gets the girl
I can't wait!
Not true.
Just read ESR's rant on guns. As a resident of a non firearm happy country, I find his views to be insane as well as frightening.
For this very reason I tend to ignore everything else he has to say.
The "starving artist" sells millions of records and becomes famous popular.
Then the record companies come and beat it out of him, take everything he owns, and leave him starving.

19 million. ;)

Great, so now I don't just look like a troll, I look like an uneducated troll....
Imaging a beowolf cluster of these!
*ducks and runs*
(for me at least - I'm talking about my desktop GNU/Linux box here)
:
Because
(1) Companies can't release closed source kernel drivers (ala nvidia) for HURD (afaik).
(2) RMS is virtually impossible to deal with, compounding (1).
I'll finally have enough space to back up /dev/zero

I just tried that on a Tru64 box (after putting all the greater/less thans back in).
./get_root /bin/su by phasedA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA ;-)A AAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAA@
It didn't work:
