IMO, unless you are contributing to the technical base of people who are running the internet (America, Europe, Australia, etc), you really have no right to say how it is run.
Its like complaining about politics, but never voting. Every time you give the third a voice in how things are run, you end up with chaos- take just about any UN action as an example.
IMO, the third world should focus all their attention on the WTO, and forget the stupid shit like the UN and ICANN; the latter two are not really helping them any.
Limbaugh is a hypocrite, and he is also a liar. From what I hear, he was in rehab for coke, not pain medication. Its better on the PR to say you were a drugstore cowboy than a cokehead.
I hope they lock him up and throw away the key, but he is going to serve as much time for being a cokehead as GWB did.
No, I just really liked the story Ubik, and would like to see it made into a movie. The premise is very good, so I would like to see somebody retain some of the more interesting (and entertaining) parts.
Since there was a release delay between the two systems of about 2 years, it seems like a pretty good timeframe. NES/SNES were several years apart, which game Nintendo time to build up a customer base, then develop their next generation system.
Seems to me Atari could have easily done the same thing, especially since they were already established. I think the American habit of milking the cow til it runs dry got the best of them, just like it did our tv/electronics industry, auto industry, etc.
I havent read any info on this (which would probably be a good idea...) but is the idea to use the powerlines as a broadcast medium for broadband, or just as a means of plugging into it (literally)?
I had always thought the latter, since there is already a 'signal' of sorts going thru the power cables, even if it isnt being focused into anything (nor would the current equipment support it if it could).
I guess I was thinking of this as an industrial-sized "HomePNA" spec.
there was a game in development which would have had the protagonists cast as terrorists, doing guerilla assignments, bombings, etc.
Of course, once the US became the victim of such an attack, it was considered in poor taste. Oh well.
However, its not like Rising Sun goes into poor taste; Im sure the subject of wartime attrocities is glossed over, just like the true brutality during WW2 is now; one generation's hell is another's entertainment. Even Vietnam has a video game. As a gamer, I could say its bad, but since I consider games to be entertainment just as movies are, I guess Im not considering it something horrible.
Im just going by what I was told. I contacted their tech support, not just the customer service, and while they didnt say they werent doing support anymore (that was what I read into it), they DID tell me that the only way my service would be acceptable would be to get a GSM phone. A completely unacceptable answer, IMO.
I told them that while Im out shopping for another phone, I may as well see if my neighbors have service from other companies which actually works inside their house. The support guy said something to the effect that he didnt mean that, and he was sure other companies are just as bad. *right*, like Im a complete moron; its not like I live out in the sticks, Im practically in the middle of a major city over here.
As for part B in your post, Im sure that is what they are supposed to do, but I wanted to switch my mother's phone to a lower rate plan (technically its my phone, since I pay for it), since she doesnt use the phone much, and they said they would only do it if I extended the contract. This was not to a promotional plan, either, so I dont know if there is some kind of monetary incentive for them to lie like that, but whatever. Im just somewhat unhappy all around at this point. The only thing that kept me there this long was my phone number, which I paid extra to get.
Anyway, I think Verizon works well around here, my roommate has their service. Its too bad, because ATT's rates are better, but it sucks too much to not have my phone work inside my house.
Im with AT&T. Im happy with them as a company, and their price plan is good. However, and its a major however, their service sucks near my house. I have to go all the way to the front or back of my house (and usually need to go outside) to have a conversation. Also, the phone wont work at all in my basement (it doesnt even ring).
Its not a signal issue, per se, because I can use it downtown inside of huge office buildings. I called their tech support, and essentially got the answer that they arent doing any further maintenence on their TDMA network; their answer was to switch to GSM. Thats basically my auto mechanic saying that instead of getting my engine fixed, I should buy a new car.
Add that to the fact that, from what I hear, GSM has terrible coverage area and service, and it seems I am going to be switching.
My last point (which I had intended to write the post for) was that I dont see this law really changing anything. For at least a year, if you want to change anything with your account (like switch call plans for more or less [!!!] minutes), they force you to extend your contract.
So all they are going to do is force people to extend their contracts for every account alteration, thus bullying people into staying with them. Especially given how cheaply made phones are, and that they need to be replaced every year or so, this seems like a conspiracy to make sure nothing changes for the better.
I read an interview a while ago (dont remember who it was with, unfortunately) where they said nobody in the industry likes doing demos, even though they are often somewhat of a requirement. It takes time away from doing 'real' work, especially when they are gearing up for the release build of the game.
Thats why most demos are cobbled together, and dont have much polish- they are essentially frankenstein versions of a beta build, put together in a rush by people who would rather be doing other, more important, things.
I know the 'repetitive' complaint comes up a lot (although backtracking afterward really didnt bother me, since the levels were restocked), but I just found the whole 'headcrab' thing to be too done before.
I mean, there has been the Alien series, The Thing, Half-Life, etc. Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed the game, but I think they could have been a bit more original. Well, I read Bungie was sort of in a time crunch, and didnt get to put all the story items they wanted to into it. There is always Halo 2, right?
no, you cant- remember, they need to use segregated networks, and they are using completely separate computers as well. People literally have two or three computers at their desks.
Ill be interested to see how something like KoTOR is received in Japan, but one thing I can see is that they may not 'get' the whole Star Wars thing. Anybody know if SW is big or even known there?
Also, MS just hired a former head of (I believe) Squaresoft to head up their Japanese XBox development branch. So we may start seeing genuine Japanese games being developed inhouse for the XBox...
The problem they wanted to fix (in what I read, not in your post) was the real-world problem of people needed two or three computers at their desk to do their work. Obviously, it magnifies the hardware you need to buy, but its also a space issue and an efficiency issue.
I dont know if youve worked with multiple computers at the same time, but it does get kind of annoying, especially if you need to copy info from one to another. Something as simple as a cut and paste would magnify how fast you can work.
So, they were looking for something which would still segregate the networks and operating system resources, but allow a person to have one computer/keyboard/mouse. Hmmm, I wonder if they have people use KVMs?
You dont see too many 'truly' new games from Japanese companies (with some caveats). For example, every FF game has been a new setting, but has retained familiar 'themes' (moggles, chocobos, gil, etc).
Im not sure, but doesnt even anime and manga follow similiar patters, where they rehash familiar characters/ideas into new stories/settings?
Another series which matches this pattern is the Ogre series (On GBA there was Knight of Lodis). Does anybody know if this uses the same setting as Lufia?
Your rights removal has been courtesy of the RNC. If you want freedom, become a millionaire like everybody else.

I always knew Michael Jackson looked like a space alien.

Guess it just depends upon your outlook.
I cant wait until cab drivers are replaced. Im tired of getting cut off in rush hour traffic...
I would *really* like to see somebody do a faithful translation of "Ubik"

Wasnt mentioned by anybody, but I remember this being a recycled idea.

was caused by this... This release had been slowed by an attack on Debian boxes discussed Friday.
just some info for those playing at home.

Having even a direct port to the GBA would be great. This was, by far, the best console RPG ever.
Im not getting too worried about a buggy demo. Most demos are buggy, anyway.
