  1. default security and responsibility on Gates' Resolve in Bringing Spammers to Justice · · Score: 1

I think ISPs should share more of the blame. A computer that doesn't connect to a network, and only one user doesn't really need that security. M$ started and grew in the personal computer industry with MSDOS- not networked, multiuser computers. AOL (which is getting better at security awareness) Earthlink and other ISP should be more involved

  2. Hair Dryers, Las Vegas, Airconditioning on A Different Way To Recycle Old PCs · · Score: 1

There are so many more wasteful things, both the pseudo art project and all projects it inspires are negligible. Have you ever been to Las Vegas or Times Square? Do you realize how many ozone eating freon air conditioners are still being used? I'm not exactly sure why people pick on personal computers as energy wasters, but there are a lot of much more wasteful appliances that we could worry about.

  3. You missed the point entirely! on Writing in Space with a Cheap Ballpoint Pen · · Score: 2, Funny

Billions of dollars have been siphoned to US technology companies, to precisely those companies in the districts of the senators and representative who voted for this "feckless welfare program." It has served the purpose it was designed for quite well. Are you some sort of Pinko Commie or what? ; )

Usually I don't waste time responding at all, but it looks like you're trying to pick a fight, so I'm game. If learning software is a matter of employment, I'd rather be an employed member of the "Riff raff" then an unemployed man with "scruples" I was only trying to make a point anyways, so you can just fuck off, asshole

  6. Its a Legal issue, anyone know the legalese? on Microsoft Antitrust Compliance Questioned · · Score: 1

The article doesn't explain the terms of the agreement which were violated, or possible remedies. Many Slashdotters will focus on either the technology, which is trivial, or the duplicity of this practice, which also seems rather trivial in the context of web merchandising. The law, however, is a different world, and the seriousness of M$ breaking their agreements (if they have been broken) is a different matter.

  8. Anyone Remember Symbolics and Open Genera? on Alpha's Going Going Gone · · Score: 1

Symbolics ported their Lisp Machines' operating system to the Alpha. Called Open Genera, it was almost entirely written in Lisp. Unfortunately they used Alpha microcode when porting it, and Genera depends on Tru64 unix on the host machine. I believe the code for Open Genera is in some sort of legal limbo now- its a shame, because this is sort of the final nail in the coffin for Lisp OSs. Even the ghost of the Lisp Machine has been killed.

  9. Pirates Booty? on Maya now Free for Personal Use · · Score: 1

How hard is it to find pirated full versions? I don't think its too difficult- Are those copies I see on the P2P networks PLE versions? I think if someone serious enough about using and learning such a complex piece of software, they'd steal a full working version, if they could.

is that often the salespeople are totally convinced by the electronic's companies propaganda. So if you go to a local store (and sometimes chain stores too) the people there are often being honest and sincere- they're just passing on the brainwashing they received themselves. Some /.er asked for stats to backup claims- please no! There are many, many bogus metrics advertised- and many counter claims about "true" metrics.
