  1. This product is pointless on LindowsOS Marches On · · Score: 2

You don't save any money. You pay them 99 bucks and what? like 189 for windows or something? Yeah you save a hundred bucks but not really when you see this bit on their site:

Because LindowsOS and Windows are on the same hard disk, you can browse and use all of your files and folders in My Documents or anywhere on your hard disk.

Now 189+99 = too much. Where is the point in this os? Install windows then install the programs you want then install lindows and run them from there. oh and make sure you like slow because thats how they run.

Hi, I don't know if you know tons of people think things are neat that you may not, but it is true. So if you get lots of posts on something then maybe it is worth posting.

  4. The voice is key on CG Idols - Human Not Required · · Score: 2

These CG characters could become stars one day and appear in a variety of movies but until they make them look like they have life and come up with a way to synthesize the human voice in a believable way it won't happen. They can't detach the characters from the people who do voice overs or you have the same deal you have with the new scooby doo series or the flintstones when they changed the people who did the voices for some of the characters. The characters die if the original voice leaves because of salary negotiations or if he/she dies or whatever. Could you like watching Arnold Swartzenegger in a movie if when he opened his mouth it sounded like someone doing an Arnold impression? The voice lends too much to the character. So I don't think CG actors will be viable for celebrity for a LONG LONG LONG time. Maybe 100s of years. Just my opinion.

Am I the only one that notices that the commercials show the CG and not so much the gameplay? Isn't this the ultimate form of false advertising? People are going to think that the gameplay looks that good. I played an XBOX in virgin superstore in New Orleans this weekend. The game on it (some football game) looked like nothing special. Like sega dreamcast even. And the controller looks like someone went nuts with a beadazzeler on a hunk of plastic. Rhinestone buttons. How ghey.

Something similar to the army reserves. The government brings you in 1 day a week and two weeks a year for training and other informative seminars. Then when the need arises (Cyber Warfare or whatever need), we help the government in the way we can best? This makes no sense. The whole point of business is to get the most productivity out of your people. So you make things streamlined. You make your man-hours count. I can understand Microsoft having their employees use windows. Lots of companies do that. I can understand them requiring the use of Exchange/Outlook. Wouldn't want important email to go down with the user's computer. I just can not understand using AOL for email. Yeah that is great that your company makes software for home users that is easy to use. But for your company it wastes valuable time to have a whole online service software open just to read mail. Are they talking about AOL web email? Or do they have to have the AOL application loaded? It would waste resources and time.

The new version 8.0 offers a 2.4.3 kernel, nice installer, graphical boot, X auto login for 1 user when in run level 5, a link on the desktop for two sites, MandrakeCapus and MandrakeExpert which are two community sites for newbies and experts to exchange info in a free manner. Mandrake has outdone itself and I am very excited everytime I boot the new version. :)

I don't really understand your statement. If you read through what I had written you would see where I say tons of other lombard users are going through the same problem. I have never had a problem with my computer up to this exact release of osX so I don't really see how my hardware is the problem. It is running great with 9.1 right now sitting in front of me. Yes plenty of lombard users did get it to work. And that is great. But a great many powerbook users in general are having issues. All of which I have gone over and tried their solutions. Nothing works. I will just wait to see what apple comes out with in the next few weeks as a solution. Or maybe I will wait until summer for that revision release. But I do not see this as a conspiracy against me. That is just rediculous. And I am not going to send my computer to apple so they can fix what runs fine with another OS. I don't have that kind of money to flop around. My lombard isn't under warranty.

  22. MacOS-Unfinished on OS X · · Score: 3

Ok I am going to try to lay this all out without sounding anything like a flame. This OS release is sort of the poster child for unfinished software releases. This OS is for all purposes Public Beta II. If you go read the discussion boards for installation on Apple's site or the forums on MacFixit you will see how many problems this OS has. It won't even run on my G3 Lombard Powerbook. There are so many threads on what could be causing it. Ram, Processor, Font folder in the wrong place. All suggesstions give tips... none of them make the OS get past installation on my system. The install took 2 and a half hours on my laptop. 9.1 runs fine without any problems. I have used recent internal builds of OS X without a problem either... except for kernel panics... which I figured would go away with the release version but they haven't according to the discussion threads. So DP4, Public Beta, 4k56 and 4k60 all ran nicely on my powerbook. But the Official release will not run at all. Apple says they do not know but are working on it. I don't see any progress. And another pet peve I have developed is that Apple has all but forgotten the lombard powerbook. They only care about the pismo and Ti. The lombard is probably the most needing of a firmware update but every firmware update is for the pismo. Anyway. I love OS X.. just waiting for it to actually work and for Apple to get their heads out of their asses. :)
