most cell companies did raise the amount you pay at the end of the month, due to the FTC's mandated number portability. However, most cell companies also kept rates exactly the same. Have your friends check for a "regulatory fee" or other such bullshit, it's probably hidden there. On my $65 nextel bill, it was in the $2-3 range.

No, it's not fair. But it's how things are done. Telecom companies overinvest in their infrastructure and then go bankrupt due to their debt. The banks (and therefore, society in general) end up eating their debts, and their assets are sold off for pennies on the dollar. Wash, Rinse, Repeat. Do this enough times, and you will eventually have a company who acquires a large enough chunk of assets for a small enough amount of money to be able to profitably deliver a good product to the masses at a price they can afford.
No. We should start another world war, so that a Great Leader will arise from all the combat. We must then use this Great Leader to immediately complete this Great Wonder !
sure, they will cross-reference your ssn with your tax return from the IRS, which has your job title / profession listed right on your 1040. Filter out all non-computer-related titles, and bingo, you've got yourself a list.
the thinkpad thing is a primary-display / secondary-display thing. the video overlay only works on the primary display. you need to set your external vga to the primary display, and make the built-in LCD secondary display. then your video will play.
No, actually, the Opteron's use a newly designed bus, namely HyperTransport (www.hypertransport.org). It was designed primarily by AMD. It is not a switched bus, it is a fabric architecture.
Centrino is intel's only real mobile chip designed for low-power mobile use. Props to them for that.
PIII-M and P4-M (intel's "mobile" chips) are simply standard pIII and p4 cores, which have been cherry-picked for their ability to run at a given speed at a super-low voltage. Other than that, they are no different than desktop chips aside from the packaging. Sounds a lot like AMD.
Celerons are simply defective p4's (or not defective, but crippled nonetheless) with most of the cache disabled. They are NOT a seperate core. This sounds a lot like AMD's Duron.
Nielsen does not meter televisions with TiVO's. They are considered "TD" (Technically Difficult) Homes. Basically, this means that if you get selected to be a Nielsen home, and you have a TiVO, they would tell you "sorry" and go to the next house on their list, because they don't know how to meter the TiVO.
I know this because one of my friends is a Nielsen installer.
Theft or 'Stealing' has absolutely nothing to do with this case. It is a simple case of COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT, which is NOT the same thing as theft.
Theft is when you deprive someone of the use of something. It was never meant to apply to the idea of 'intellectual property', and apparently cannot be adapted to properly suit 'intellectual property theft'. That's why they made a new crime called Copyright Infringement to more suitably cover illegitimate copies.
As an hourly employee, you should report in your timesheets all the hours you work at home as well. Working at home is still working.

Yes, and 192A at 1.5v is ~288W. There should be no problem producing 300W for 30 seconds from a 120VAC power source.
Give it one more cycle ;)

The point is that opteron has shed most of these shitty limitations.

2Mbits/sec is currently a common download speed, as you say, but I think that 20Mbits/sec download speeds are still quite a ways off.

no. it's x86-64. for some reason, lazy people call it AMD64 in their kernel trees. it's not.
Who's to say they won't offer files with commercials built-in? Most people would just watch them rather than take the time to edit them out.

Recovered stock machine from a dumpster, then souped it up:
386SX-16MHz
8MB RAM (maxed out)
3com MCA ethernet card (10BaseT)
Adaptec MCA SCSI-1 Card (5MByte/sec max)
Quantum Fireball 1.08GB SCSI HD (the largest the machine will boot from)
1.44MB Floppy Drive
OS: Slackware 9.0rc1, MCA Kernel
It only took two hours to generate my RSA/DSA keys for SSH!
