    Use what works... quit complaining about M$.... IF it does the trick - then use it. If for some wierd out of this world reason you HAVE to use linux on your home PC... well.. good for you - it doesn't make you any better, and personally, i'm bloody sick of these articles submitted by linux geeks (i'm one, so if you take this personal, go fsck yourself) dogging windows all the time.

    Its a dog eat dog world - look at the most powerful gov in the world and if you can't see that, then you need new spectacles or your lasik redone.

    We've had holes in our OS's since... umm... always - I think when we used paper we didn't have holes... except for when we were using the paper made for 3 ring binders.
     
    So what are we left with - just another hole (heh, thats a name of a piercing shop where I live) that exploiters will try to exploit. And then what? The AV companies will do their best (like they always have or haven't) done.
    OS's have holes, software has holes, so in this case, do what is smart. Throw up a firewall running a 5 meg version of linux on a 386 box :)

    Consider RAID-10... fast and VERY redundant... You can have multiple drives fail out and its fast.

    However, you will need to have at least 6 disks, and you do loose space... so i'd probably go with raid-5, and although SAS drives would be nice... well... can you say expensive? Consider an MD1000 from dell - just buy one with 3 hard drives and pick up your own that are preferably the same brand. And the basic support is worth it if you are handling more than 5 hard drives as hard drives like to fail.

    I hate to say it like that - but, yes, for the average user, it does everything they need.

    I only use windows at work and, like I said - it works. I dont see the need for a change, and since this licence key for windows XP is probably around 4 years old, its (probably) been well worth what my employer paid for it.

    And when I get home, I want to doink a couple people in the head with my M95 sniper rifle, so I click the power button on my PC, wait, then click the icon for BF2, and i'm in the game.

    So you don't want your ISP knowing that you are posting on an 'odd' forum or something to the effect that you are eating your snot?

    I completely understand the right to privacy, however, if you are talking about being 'private' so that your ISP does not give your searching behaviors to the government, then that is a completely different story.

    And forgive my misunderstanding of your 4th example, but I fail to see how it pertains to browsing the internet anonymously.

    and the only time the average user would need to surf anonymous is when he/she knows he is doing something wrong. I mean, i'm not trying to start anything here, but rather understand WHY you would need to do this. Obviously we have 'pr0n viewing' at work, and stalking ex's and whathave you...
     
    So... what legitamate uses can it have? And if you say "I just want to do it so that I can be tracked by flashing ads, you better have epilepsy.

    I mean come on... so they have a nuke (or claim to), why overkill? But, on the conspiracy side of things, they could have some super bug that the public won't be told about, and use that as some sort of leverage. God knows that science in the US has been declining. (I gotta wonder if god will give me brownie points for that statement)

    I've undergone pegaylated interferon treatment twice now... didn't work for me, however did for my brother, and you have to have AWESOME insurance to cover this stuff. I doubt the side effects (which are 11 months of hell) are any different, but if it was cheaper, and for the people who relapse when the drug does keep the virus in check, but comes back, this would be great. After the treatment I felt so good for the couple of months that the viral levels were low... I've been hoping for a prophylactic kind of treatment for a long time... I really hope the pharmco's aren't assholes about something like this.

    right, because if life forms did exist outside of earth, they would want us just to dismiss them in disinterest of science and stick with cross burning and voodoo.

    While I agree investigating every UFO sighting out there is a little ridiculous, something of this nature to be ignored is just ignorance. That or the gov knows about aliens, and doesn't tell us, or they don't know and the aliens are just messing with our heads.

    Or it could be a very anomalous cloud that 10 people all happened to see.
