I mainly agree with your post, it's not the makers responisbility to check what happens. If they classify then they did there job. The big problem I have is the fact that parrents are not soly responsible.
In my view there are at least 2 more: -
    • The child it zelf
    -
    • The government

Both for verry different reasons but still, let me explain
We are always talking about all the rights we demand, but with all these rights there comes responisibility. The fact that not all neglected children schoot people, and not all people who shoot others were neglected.
If a kind shoots someone else the kid himzelf is responsible. I know there are all kinds of circumstances and those shoot be taken into account but the fact remains that he pulled the trigger and not the circumstances.
And the government, i know this is a completely different magnitude but, to reference bowling for columbine, the government is atleast partially responsible for some shootings. In bowling for columbine they examine the killing of a schoolgirl by a 6 year old who picket up a gun from his unlces home where he and his mom were staying because they got evicted. And his mom didn't know he took the gun beacause she was in the money for work program and had to drive 1,5 hours to her job work 2 jobs and drive 1,5 hours on the bus back. She was nerver home, so when the kid took the gun she wasn't there. The sherf of that little town states: the money for work program has no merrit, it rips appart famillies and should be stopped as soon as possible.
don't get me wrong, I think people who are in wellfare should be urged to get a job, however this should not be done at all cost.
aparantly the minimum wage in Amerika is not enough to live of so the womand had to take on 2 jobs.
It's the governments responsibillity to make the minimum wage enough to be able to support a familly
But these are just my socialist 0.02 Rouble and ofcourse they should be flamed asap

I am tired of Foriegn students coming to America and taking up spots in good Universities and Colleges that could go to Americans.
And this is were your reasoning is flawed. As I remember the costs for MIT are steep. It's so expensive that american students come to holland to study at the university of Delft because they can afford this and they can't afford MIT. The places at MIT that are filled by foreign students are places that wouldn't be filled if it wasn't for them.
Basically you prefer an empty MIT above one that is actually filled by (parially) foreign students. And don't forget the research MIT has great value for American companies who can use this knowlidge for far less then it would cost them to do the research them self

Oddly enough, in europe we have something that kind of works like this.
In Holland it's called the chipper. Basically it's a SIM card that's added to your ATM card.
    It's designed for small transactions.
In holland you can use your atm card to pay in shops, kinda like a credit card. However it costs shopkeepers 0,15 euro on every transmission and requires a secure phoneline. So for small amounts and places like the market you can use the 'chipper'. At first i to found it rather weird useless but these days you can pay for more and more stuff using the 'chipper' and i find it works kinda nice. No more loose change etc and a verry slim wallet.
Anyway I wanted to say that this system actually does exist and i works kinda nice, just my 2ct

Allthough this argument is fully true for DB2 on the mainframe, DB2 UDB (for windows NT, Linux and other *NIX) has to comped to MYSQL. Why? Simple Because UDB isn't even closely as populair as Oracle on UNIX so they have to fight for market share. Granted DB2 UDB costs more than MYSQL it's still a lot cheaper than ORACLE. This is not becaus it has less features, this is because they are trying to create a market base. And thats exactly where they are competing to MYSQL. Once you have chosen you rarely change.

On a side note: What i find curious is why it's logical for MS to critisize and not for DB2, I'm currently involved at both the impelmentation of DB2 v 7 on OS/390 and the implementation of SQL2000 on Win2K and to be honest MS wins. It's note as stable as DB2 because the OS isn't and it can't handle nearly as many transactions but things like BLOBS (Binarie Large Objects) don't fully work in DB2 v7 (it crashes when running multiple BLOB selects) and MS has this piece of tech fully functional.
