If i did'nt read this with my own eyes i would'nt have believed this.... i was nagging the wifey yesterday about not putting the roomba back on the charger. To make a boring story shorter... this very same thing happened to my wife yesterday. But being the way she is she just forgot about it until i found the dam thing in a guest room with the door closed hiding under the bed... its little battery exhausted.
I agree with your observations on the possible use of this library but this comes from WinPCap's site.
"WinPcap is an open source library for packet capture and network analysis for the Win32 platforms. It includes a kernel-level packet filter, a low-level dynamic link library (packet.dll), and a high-level and system-independent library (wpcap.dll, based on libpcap version 0.6.2).
The packet filter is a device driver that adds to Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP and 2003 the ability to capture and send raw data from a network card, with the possibility to filter and store in a buffer the captured packets.
Packet.dll is an API that can be used to directly access the functions of the packet driver, offering a programming interface independent from the Microsoft OS.
Wpcap.dll exports a set of high level capture primitives that are compatible with libpcap, the well known Unix capture library. These functions allow to capture packets in a way independent from the underlying network hardware and operating system."
I use this everyday on my development systems (Ima codemonkey) for special protocol issues dealing the BacNet protocol.
Kinda like the arqument for the use of p2p for piracy. I use a p2p "waste" daily but not for nefarious reasons.
I was going to post this as anonyymous but wtf, Slashdot-USA centric?? you arrogant, ignorant buffoon. Where do you think "Slashdot-internet-and most new good shit is invented/implemented??? The fuckin moon.?? Get off your USA bashing horse you fuckin twit and take your stupid comments and post them someplace where the sun never shines.
It seems that the telemetry indicates the first stage ran short and shut down early. They ran the next two stages until empty and failed to achieve a GEO orbit. Seems they might have a little problem.:-)
Both my girls (aged 16-14) have their own workstations. They also have some old ThinkPads, which i picked up at a yard sale. My girls are both on the Distinguished Honors List. But last night a few net gaming buddies of mine and i were discussing our kids use of their computers and came to some surprising results. Both of my girls as well as my buddies children have good study habits as do their close circle of friends. All of them do their homework at the same time after dinner and chat online while doing so. Most of their teachers also join their chat rooms in the evenings to assist in their homework. Even though they all use AIM probably reflecting the lowest common denominator i.e. families with AOL accounts
I find that they don't use their boxes for gaming as my generation does but rather for socializing.

What a retarded thing to say. Can you say sore loser. ?
Not as bad as your spelling "They no longer need search warrents, and they have no respect of our civil liberties" And the proof that they don't repsect our civil liberties??? Do you even have a clue as to what civil liberties are??
You sound like a wacko liberal to me....
I agree with this opinion.... if they are doing self censorship then their ability to provide unbiased - non-partisan information just went down my shitter also...
yeah !!! kinda like having Lemmings under your remote control. ! Jeesh lets drive em all over the cliff just for kicks.... but on another note i for one was amazed last nite watching my new Roomba clean the dust bunnies out from under my bed..:-)

I thought the guy that directed the "Matrix" was asked to direct this movie and the guys were VERY suprised when he accepted. Although i could be wrong.
I was in this poor admins position in 1999 and yes i did have all of the servers (all of 16) running Seti@home clients running.,,, off hours... but it looks to me that this bonehead Tom Hayes is just way too out in left field.... I mean come on... how many companies have in thier IT goldenhand book that says NOT to specifically run Seti@Home.....???
This just makes me ill when i see these kinds of articles...
"The heat due to reentry has less to do with the altitude and more to do with the actual speed at impact." Agreed.... i for one would have like to see what would have happened if he would have run the tanks dry!! He might have reached 200+K... then the fun starts at re-entry.... I for one think we are on the brink of some very cool space history.. that is happening in our lifetimes...
I beg to differ... I watched the whole thing from NASA's live webcast simultaneously with a few buddies of mine from overseas... we also had a Skype connection going so we could chat about it.
It was one of the most interesting moments in recent history. I will agree with you about one item though: The Webcast commentators were not very good.
" Roland Piquepaille's Technology Trends"
"How new technologies are modifying our way of life"
"If you are interested by the subject, visit a university library, or buy the article for $22."
Also, I beleive that they left the rendevous docking radar switch in the on position during decent (a no no) also contributed to the 1201's.
Even though it was listed in the Flight manual as being in the on postion. A mistake i believe that wasnt tested in the simulators but was found by 2 engineers during a passing conversation in a hall.
Well said. !!!! I for one always question these "pundits" who have little real world experience with desktop Raid arrays. Being a developer i have always had a Raid 0 on a desktop and have found over the years there is a very noticable difference when accessing large amounts of data.
Just my 2 cents.
Another interesting note about the Lander Flight computer is the fact that it was WIRE-WRAPPED !!!.. I don't know about the rest of you but of all the embedded systems i've worked on that were built this way i would Never trust such critical piece if flight hardware to a fabrication method that is known for reliablity issues.
I've just tested the Linux version of Skype here
-Local box to box - Linux to windows - 2 accounts etc..works as advertised. But just from a technical point of view being an old coder myself, i'd like to know how they minimize the lag.. Dam this thing works better than my cell from a lag-latency point of view.
I use for my gaming and development boxes, RAID 1 setups. 2-36 gigs UltraSCSI seems to work well. I am using Adaptecs 2100S's with the most cache i could fit. I've just added an additional 250 gig ide drives for some non-critical items. I've had this setup for about 2 years and just had one of the drives fail due to faulty 5 1/4" tray fans. I never saw the fans fail and i guess the drive was running hot for a while until it finally went kaput!!.. Just pulled the old one out, put the new one in and after about 15 minutes of rebuilding i was back in business. Needless to say i now have enough air-flow through the box (additional fans) that i have to worry about things blowing around.
Actually i wasnt trying to insult you. Far from it. I agree with your comments about "compulsive -all the time- gaming" but if you read MY comments i never mentioned compulsive gaming. Just gaming in general. I have had friends lose their SO over Mercs, Quake, EverQuest etc. Its like anything else, the ying has to equal the yang or your life has no- balance young grasshopper.!!

If i wasn't so anal i'd say this guy was a spy or working for an intelligencia in China.... if he was that smart he'd already know the answer!!!

I use it everyday.... HIGHLY recommended. No downside as of this time.
