Anyone who says to be considered a real media console it needs divx, mp3 et all support is more than likely just wants to play rips they downloaded from the net. I think we all just need to 'fess up and shut-up about insisting that companies support our illegal activities.
After the ugliness of World War II, Korea banned many Japanese imports. The result? No Nintendos. No Segas. No PlayStation or PlayStation 2. In this unique space, the PC was it. It became the de-facto, be-all and end-all of serious gaming platforms.
we need more work put into villans. Anyone remember Natla from TombRaider1? By the end of the game we knew nothing more about Lara (she's english, and archeologist and has big breasts) but we knew a great deal about Natla, and she was pretty damn cool as villans go. The subsequent (bad)games etc have all been about Lara and she's just not very interesting.
I used to have tapes of the original series when the ABC replayed it years ago (about 1987 or 88 I think), I was about 12 and it blew my mind. They did it in 2x6 hour blocks over two weeks. The first one ended with Ford and Arthur on pre-historic earth. The second one was completely different to the books although there where elements of them in it. Where these two series? And are they available on disc or anything?
So what's good on the 'net in this department? Any good sites that have streams or downloads of documentaries/talks/lectures/presentations etc on good science?
I imagine there would be a lot of know exploits in the code that they didn't intend to have fixed on release but rather in the first patches long before anyone could work them out. Now since the source is in the wild they must fix them before release.
Personally I like 'MAXIMUM STRENGTH' medicinces. Work out the amount that is going to kill me, then back it off just a little. That's the sort of pain that I'm in.
most ISPs I'ved used (Ihug.com.au at the moment) have a user section of their site where you can config stuff like email accounts, pay bills, check usage etc. Just add a page with tick boxes for the ports being blocked with nice little discriptions of the sorts of programs which commonly use these ports. You have a bunch of default ports being blocked. The unblock lasts for 2 weeks (I made a number up) then it resets for people who are lazy, forgetful or indifferent. Send an email reminder. Only list common ports or those known to be a problem, with the ability to add your own specified ports to your list.
You could probably also provide a page where you can control personal email filters as well. Add in some domain blocking for concerned parents.
Customers would know about this because I would shove it down their throats as a major selling point - having control of your own internet connection.
I started playing the discworld mud after watching hearing stories from workmates about their exploits. It's just a text mud but its so hilarious and so fun but takes a bit of effort to get into if you don't know someone who can show you stuff.
I would love this game to be rebuilt with a graphics engine with the cartoony look of World of Warcraft just cause I would love to see it, but but without the text descriptions it wouldn't be as funny. You can simply put more expression and detail in a text description than with graphics, you just need a good writer. Text can describe look, sounds, smell, taste and touch and feeling. The last time I checked the best non-text games out there could do was look and sound.
Battlefield is very fun (engineers rock) and is very popular at the internet/gaming cafe that I work at. However virtually no-one there wants to play bf1942 anymore but instead a mod called DesertCombat. It has modern weapons and vehicles (helicopters etc) and is much easier to play cause everything is more accurate, faster and does more damage. After you get the hang of flying helicopters it's really quite easy. But I became bored with it quickly. Dogfighting requires a lot more skill in the original planes cause they are slower, but most customers (many migrating from CounterStrike) don't want to play a game that requires skill - they want to blow shit up and blow it up NOW!!!!! Its great for a laugh every now and then. BF1942 is relatively easy to pick up and actually has a bit of depth.
As a student studying Java could someone please point me to info about this issue. It sounds like crap to me. >>or tricky web-pages that use java to make you >>download something and not tell you or
I'm tired of this crap. You want a totally immersive interactive 3d experience? Go outside.
I agree that generally speaking game innovation has slowed somewhat and is in somewhat of a 'fusion-phase', but that is innovation in itself and has given us some great games. Rise of Nations for instance nicely combines Age of Empires style rts with Civilisation (sorta) plus a game of Risk(TM) in the Conquer the World mode. And guess what? It's fun.
I'd like to see two more Syndicate games in the next 10 years. Anyone know who owns the IP for Syndicate? I think someone needs to buy it and license the GTA3 engine to make a third Syndicate game. I've just been watching someone mow civies down with a minigun in vicecity;-)
It's not an RTS for me. To quote that guy from Starship Troopers(movie) "I'm just here to fight". I'm one of those valuable troops that just shuts up, follows orders, shoots the bad guys and as a result gets given the good equipment.;-)
More to the point screw linux, where's my Mac HalfLife2 ?!?!?!?

Total Cost of Ownership?
That is why I no longer have windows servers & only play games on my XBox. Sort of ironic.

Koreans don't take consoles seriously.

>>Connectix made the VirtualPC series of products, and VmWare made the VMWare series of products.
oh, horrible icky feeling of forboding there. please don't use past tense refering to VMWare.

And the Diablo2 1.10 patch was released as well. Maybe Bil^H^H^HSatan did install new air-con.

and how much was lost due to people not creating backups?

The delay of HalfLife2 and theft of code thus resulting in further delays certainly fills me with violent thoughts.

Am I the only one who reads these stories about CEOs and thinks "climb aboard the Spruce Moose"?
Why Windows?
Now I'm seeing Tom Baker's giant scarf and thinking feather boa ;-)

Apologies to Jerry Seinfeld.

Really? Try joining an AIM chat room ;-) .

could someone please patent the patent system and get an injunction against the patent office.

Clippy sucks. Links the cat is much cooler.
Seriously though I like the assistant and do not find it distracting
Yeah but most of that is graphics, audio and video. How much of that is executable/binary content?
