IF you're pretty close to Vancouver, it's well worth it to check out TRIUMF, Canada's largest cyclotron. It's a very impressive facility, well worth the drive.
I laughed my head off when I read that. I figured it was pretty obvious to everyone that Macintosh Users LOVE Microsoft.
After all, is it not Macintosh users who shell out hundreds of dollers every year or two to get the latest Microsoft Office? Mac users are just as loyal to Microsoft as any PC user. What do they use for email? Outlook! What do they use for writing? Word! What do they browse with? IE!
Just cause they don't use an MS operating system doesn't mean they hate microsoft. Mac users have a lot of choice in office-type software, probably more than PC users have, or atleast as much... and in the end, they go running to MS like the drones they are.
Alright, I know everyone just loves Foundation and the Foundation series. Unfortunatly, Asimov's greatest work is too often overlooked.
I speak of course of The End of Eternity.
This book is brilliant, probably the best sci-fi I have ever read. I'm not sure if anyone has ever even heard of it. It has the most amazingly interesting concepts but forward you will ever see. I recommend to anyone who enjoyed Foundation to pick up a copy of End of Eternity. You won't regret it!
But as for the written word, I must agree. Herbert was to science fiction what Tolkien was to fantasy.
Before Tolkien's time, fantasy was a non-existent genre. He invented fantasy. SCI-FI has been around long before Herbert. I mean, Verne comes to mind, as does Twain (Connecticut Yankee....).
So it is unfair to say that Herbert is that important to SC-Fi, alrhough I agree, his work is briliant.
Theres no picture of a melted down server entirely out of lego blocks.... pehaps the slashdot effect will give them a new inspiration for they're site!
I just don't understand, does this project have some kind of an adgenda... I mean the commander of the station: he looks gay, he sounds get, theres gay party music playing in the background.... something tells me he's gay, and very stereotypically so....
I'm not sure what to think of this... it kind of bothers me... I don't know why. Can anyone tell me what the deal with this is?
IT does? Coulda fooled me, maybe I'm an idiot (quite likely actually) but I just spent a while looking throught all of the IE options (I use win2k, I don't know which version of IE that would give me) and I wasn't able to find anything to turn pop ups off... tell you what, let me know how to do it, and perhaps I'll stop using mozilla. And no RTFM bullshit either, after all... I am lazy.
Finding Bugs like this is proof that Mozilla is well on the way to becoming the world's best browser. With open source and lots of people contributing, bugs are found and elliminated quickly.
Microsoft IE on the other hand, bugs take time to find and even more time to repair due to the slow reaction of a large organization. This is probably why we hear so much about Mozilla bugs, they're far easier to uncover than bugs in IE or other browser.
PErsonally, I think Mozilla users should concider this a Good Thing, it means that your browser of choice is getting better!
A bug in mozilla??? No way, you've got to be jokeing!!!
Seriously though, although Mozilla has it's faults, (this being a prime example). It is still the cutting edge of browser technology. I mean, theres one feature that wins over every person I've recommended Mozilla to: the ability to stop pop ups from apearing. ALthough Mozilla is still rough around the edges, it is still my browser of choice.
The only one that I can think of MAYBE for the latter category is Gimp, and the user interface on that thing is so horrible as to be useless for anyone but a true geek (at least, the last time I used it which was admittedly a while ago).
As opposed of course to the fabulously intuitive, easy to use, consistant and efficient piece of software that is Adobe Photoshop.
Seriously though, the popular, propiatary desktop programs such as Photoshop are for the most part bloated, inefficient and un intuitive. Adobe Photoship is PARTICULARLY bad in this regard. Microsoft Office and others don't fair much better.
I think that currently most of the big open source projects such as Mozilla, Open Office or GIMP are good enough to replace their PC equivelents. The challenge now for the open source community is letting people know that these products exist.
I don't know, I mean I for one prefer the Windows/Linux GUI to the mac GUI... single mouse button:P.
To be fair though, KDE and Gnome are more moddled after CDE than anything. In all probability, Windows is also modeled after CDE, since the current incarnation of the windows GUI was first released well after CDE is up and running on HP unix machines and others.
Point is, Linux is in all probability following a unix gui trend rather than blindly copying wondows.
The first question that popped into my mind is: How are thy going to do the space combat??
I mean, you can hardly have a Star Wars while sitting on a planet can you? There are going to have to be several planets modeled as well as the facility to travel, and persumably fight in space. I'd imagine you'd not only need a 3rd person view just like ever quest, but you'd need some sort of space simulator, like wing commander or something. The Star Wars universe has to be far more expansive than Ever Quest or any other MMPORPG before it. Either way, it's going to be very exciting... can they pull it off properly?
Course, I won't be subscribing, 20 bucks a month can buy a lot of beer.
People feel they don't have a choice with windows and so will pay a lot for it. If say an equaly compatible operating system with as much consumer awareness and (percieved) ease of use as windows came along and sold for 40 bucks, microsoft would have to slash it's prices for people to continue buying their product. Same with Office (yes I am aware of StarOffice ect... see consumer awareness)
Just look at the XBox/PS2 thing.... Microsoft can't charge what it would like to charge for XBox; it has to keep it's prices in line with playstation. This forces ms to sell their boxes at a loss!
The bottom line is, if Microsoft had serious competition who was selling it's product for less than MS, microsoft would have to cut prices to remain competitive. Since it does not have serious competition (yet) they can charge whatever they like!
Great idea, one problem thoguh. If you made the Federation out to be an evil, bad organization, then you'd have ruined that chances for further expansion of the franchise.
As you can plainly see, it runs quite far south, nearby many population centers, the largest of which is Inuvik (pop 2000), on the mainland south of Victoria island.
Don't you understand anything?!?! Global warming is RETRO-ACTIVE! The polution we're letting out of our cars now caused ALL of the previous warming periods. Excuse me, I have some crack to smoke.

It seems we have found a use for Astrology!
Since when can a planet perdict an increase in Spam, read the headline, it sounds just like Astrology!

Yes,
but only if they ate nuts off of the radioactive trees.
Yet another reason to never eat squirrels.
The Navy would be raiding RIAA computer ;).
Go ahead, I'll take the karma hit!

To me quality adult is REALLY good pr0n.
Wait, quality adult doesn't really exist does it.
- That one division carries a company is NOT an abuse of their monopoly position.
When you're a monopoly, yes it is.Wow, now thats a circular argument if i've ever heard one
It has everything to do with being a monopoly.

No I don't see your point.
You should notice that while billboards must adhere to certain guidlines such as obsenity guidlines to be legal, there is no regulation on spam.
I mean, most of the spam people get are a) scams, b) illigal, and/or c) pornographic. Now just try to post a pornographic billboard... won't happen.
So they have libraries for programming slot machines and smokeing salmon? What about carving totem polls?
