US military is spending billions on developing a missile defense system. You'd think they could use the same technologies to vaporize space junk. All you need is really powerful laser either shot fired from the ground or airborne 747.

I can see why you would have mp3s encoded since its pain to keep changing cds or to transfer to an mp3 player but why would you encode LoTR to Divx? I never found any reason to encode my dvds to divx. Copying a dvd on the other hand I can understand for a backup.

  6. Re:As much as I like the idea ... on U.S. National Do-Not-Call Registry On the Way? · · Score: 1

They aren't dictating who businesses can or can't call. Its an opt out list. And it is every responsibility of government what can or can't do. With your logic, our fax machines would be flooded with junk faxes and I would burn up all my cell minutes by telemarketers. What the governments needs to set up next is a privacy opt out list that states a business can't sell information of the person if they are on the list. If the government had this list, in theory make the do not call lists useless since businesses couldn't sell your phone number.

Same things goes for Java on Windows. As long as you can remove it from the install, i won't have problem with it. .Net isn't bundled with anything, you have to download it. Windows Update doesn't even auto download it for you have to pick it out of the software addons. Personally I don't want anything on my computer I don't need, Java, .Net. My box meant is only for playing games and this excess crap uses up resources.

The compressed and encoded audio and/or video information is sent over standard telephone, cable or satellite broadcast channels to a receiver specified by a subscriber of the service, preferably in less than real time, for later playback and optional recording on standard audio and/or video tape. Seems like they are really reaching on that patent. I can see them go after directv or digital cable, but pr0n sites?
