A huge amount (if not the majority) of spam comes from open relays and compromised machines which this silly idea doesn't address. A ground-up overhaul of the mail system (with authentication) is what's needed, not another level of bureaucratic nonsense.
My people are being Spammed Senator! I was not elected admin to watch my people suffer and mail servers die while you discuss this Spam invasion in a committee!
Well assuming that you will be playing this audio under windows, what stops someone from writing a "fake" audio card driver that does nothing but dump audio into a wav file?
FLAC is where it is at! I have very discerning ears and even at the highest bit rates, I can still hear audio artifacts with pretty much any codec. However, I do use Ogg Vorbis on my portable audio device because it is the only free(dom) codec that it supports.

In some cases, it takes a hell of a lot to convince them you've changed your mind. Of course now there are good and free spyware removal tools. I've been to some sites that pop up messages that say "Javascript error: Not a Win32 environment":)
God that spelling and grammar was atrocious. I was doing several things at once while typing that. I don't usually sound like a diseased monkey, honestly.
Well things like SSE2 would be like how 3dmark does unimplemented features, they just don't get the point for it. I agree about the P-M. It combines the features of the Pentium III that were better than the Pentium 4 with the features of the Pentium 4 that made is better than the Pentium III.
I think if they started posting more descriptive benchmarks about *just* the cpu, it might expose a demand for more tuned cpus. MIPS and Alpha were average general performance CPUs with massive FPU performance. I wonder what kind of super computing clusters could be made if you threw a Pentium 4 FPU unit onto a low voltage cpu like X-Scale. So you could have the 400MHz x-scale with its own external bus but internally it talks on a 400MHz bus to the Pentium 4 FPU running at 3GHz. Of course this is the technical equivalent of mating a cockroach with an elephant, but you get the idea.
How about we as the technical computer consumers come up with our own designator? We could start by basing it on a known quantity, for example a 1GHz P3 with a 133MHz bus. Then we benchmark the different parts of that CPU. FPU intensive, Integer intensive, MMX intensive, SSE intensive, cache hit intensive, cache miss intensive, and a mix intensive. Then whatever score is produced is weighted and collectively called 1.00 Then from that point on all CPUs are to be referred to by their number based on their weighted scores. So perhaps a 2GHz Pentium 4 is only a 1.5 when compared to the P3. Or even better, I'd love to see the individual scores of the different sections. I'd like to make it really easy for people to get specialized processors that best suit their needs. In some cases, it is hard to determine what would be the best cpu for the application. You may need one that can fly through compiling software but you don't really give a crap about SSE, MMX or FPU.
I can't believe that no one here has mentioned shooting them with BB guns during the summer. I never did but I saw several people do it. These things are easy to catch. You just pinch their wings between your thumb and forefinger and they can't do anything. We have green ones in Texas every year, they are the most common. (They black and yellow zig-zags on their head) From time to time I see very large brown/orange ones which only seem to come out at night. I've also seen a few solid black ones that were the size of the green ones. Once I even caught an extremely tiny one that was no bigger than a coffee bean. Each one seems to have their own special call. (Only males can call) The greeon ones in Texas have a rising and falling sequence that takes about 7 seconds. The large brown/orange ones alternate wee-oh-wee-oh-wee-oh. The solid black ones seem to have a long high pitch call. When you try to catch cicadas they will sometimes spray you with a drop of clear liquid. I assume it is either urine or reproductive juice. Males are easily identified by their sound. (Females are silent) Males also have breast plates which vibrate to make their sound. Females have none. The females end in a point, and if you flip them over they have a black line extending to the point. Males have an organ (I assume a sort of penis) that flips out from their tail end.
During the summer, you can find their shells all over the place. They emerge with their wings folded very tightly and take about 12 hours to unfold and dry.
And remember, there's nothing that a Cocker Spaniel loves more than proudly running around with a buzzing creature in their mouth followed by a loud CRUNCH.
When I was a kid, my dad worked as a mechanic at a sewage treatment plant. After the sewage comes in, it passes through a system called a digester where it sat. The fumes which were collected were mostly methane gas, that was pumped into giant diesel engines that ran generators that ran the digestion system that ran the engines that ran the... Oh dear I've gone cross-eyed. There was still some solid waste left behind however. It was loaded into large spreaders and spread out on large fields and then flattened out to dry. Though about 90% of the stink had gone local residents still complained. So they came up with an industrial perfume called Roto-ban that was sprayed on top to cover up the smell. Shortly after more people complained about the smell from the perfume than the waste, so they stopped using it. What was left over was collected and sold as industrial fertilizer. You could not legally (in the US) use it to fertilize vegitation used for human consumption, but you could use it to fertilize food used for animal consumption (and then they could legally sell the animals as food).
So basically HAHAHA (pointing) You eat turds!
In 2014, the UN will declare that Linus is a treasure for the human race.
(Looking into my Crystal ball) the UN decides to vote on it, but France filibusters them and nominates their own home grown OS that only runs on terminals in phone boothes.
The last time I opened up my Genesis, I noticed it had a 10Mhz 68000 CPU in it. That doesn't mean it was clocked at that speed, but it would make sense that they made the games run independently of the clock speed, on the off chance that they ever create a sucessor to their product that was backwards compatable but faster.
To me, all this sounds like is that they screwed up the partition table to make look like it is larger than it really is. I don't see anything about them actually storing data in that extra space. It is very possible that they use the same platters and heads in these drives, but the logic boards are what the computer talks to and if they say 200gb then that is what it will format out to. Also on voice coil drives (all modern drives) there is one side of one platter that contains the track information that the drive uses to align itself (unlike stepper motor drives which used physical steps in the actuator for alignment)

iPod Mini Sells Out

· Score: 2, Offtopic
Neuros Has more capacity than an Ipod mini, cheaper, plays OggVorbis, MP3, can record from the internal FM radio and even go out on the net and figure out which song it recorded. You can transmit your music over FM to a radio, the HD is removable and upgradable, the software is open source, it has a built in Mic that can record at full cd quality (helpful for sneaking into concerts) The iPod doesn't look that hot any more. You can also get a 99$ version that has a 128mb flash module which can be upgraded to the 20gb version for $129.

A co-worker of mine has an MSN messenger account that he keeps getting IM's in Arabic. Aparently someone else had the account and it expired and just by chance he picked the same name. He also is on some kind of Islam mailing list getting Koran verses in his mail every day. I hope that they do some research on this idea before they start handcuffing people.
I submitted a story about a year ago that said SPAM was 20 years old according to the BBC, (going by USENET spam) But I could have swore the anniversary of spam story has been here several times.

How can I buck the system and defraud my country of money, risking fines and/or imprisonment? Thanks!
