    I am actually using the DVD burner that we bought with our Nintendo Dev kit to burner normal DVD-Rs. I wasn't sure it would work. Does the hardware spin the DVD-R backwards? if so surely this must be controlled by the software?

    What model is the drive? (i.e. what does device manager show)?

    I never could watch that show... I hated him for bringing about the end my saturday cartoons. :'(
    And then one day, I go to turn on cartoons and 7am to 12pm non-stop news and infomercials!

    Personally, I wouldn't mind a full day of nothing but Bugs, Daffy, and of course my favorite, the Coyote and Road Runner.

    This reminds me of the old SNL bit on weekend update (w/ Kevin Nealon) about a prison video tape of some famous prisoner having gay sex and snorting cocaine. He added "This tape was funded with a $100,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts."

    If you unsoldered the bios chip that contains the boot code and mailed it back to MS. Does that mean you have the legal right to do anything you want with it at that point? Since there is no licensed software in it?

    A few shows on widescreen: Crossing Jordan Enterprise Jay Leno (might not count; that's HDTV) Prob a few more, but since I don't watch TV much...

    I was watching Conan O'Brien last night and they did a side shot and I could see the cameras they used. They all said Canon HD. (I wonder why they didn't change it to Conan HD?) :)

    The site www.sco.com is running Apache/1.3.14 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.7.1 OpenSSL/0.9.6 PHP/4.0.3pl1 on Linux.

    If it weren't for that crappy piece of kernel code that IBM stole, it might have held up under the pressure!

    I tried saving the swf and when I launch it, it says it must be launched from its original location. I just don't want to go back one day and find it gone forever.

    A weak lamp will only dims the image, it does not affect sharpness of the image.

    On our JVC DLP projectors the image didn't dim, it started coming more yellow and would have a visible flicker. Changing the bulb would fix it.

    No, not even close. Usually about 1000 hours. The JVC D-ILA 150 projectors that we used where I worked, the image started deteriorating after about the 1/3 to 1/2 way point. The projectors would shut down before the 1000 hour point and you would have to reset it. After 1000 hours, there is a risk of the bulb exploding. Which will void the warranty of course, and potentially hurt you.

    I hope OpenBSD has gotten easier to use and install. Its not for the faint of heard. Last time I used it (2.something) post install configuration was non existant. it was like: "Here's some iron ore, build a truck"

    I dunno, I've always found it quite easy. You've got about 5 or so tgz files that it downloads (I always do ftp installs) and decompresses them. I find it simple and clean.

    This is the one that's always gotten me. It's obviously one of the worst possible things in spam. But how do you then track down who happens to be sending it and punish them for it?

    I don't know how you track them down personally but when you find out let me know and I can take care of the punishment part.

    Isopropanol doesn't cut through grease or goo really because it is not a petroleum product. Alcohols are products of fermentation of organic material. For some reason it has become the defacto cleaner in the computer world but is really not that effective on things other than inkjet printers, and disk drives. (Sometimes keyboards). Naphtha does wonders and completely evaporates unlike WD-40 which leaves its own residue.

    All of the goo/goof products are just Naptha aka lighter fluid. Naptha dissolves pretty much any oily or greasy substace. I got started using it for cleaning when it was recommended in a Guitar Repair book that I bought. I've always used Ronsonol lighter fluid for cleaning any surface that gets greasy from human contact (keyboards, computer cases etc) It works wonders and is only about a $1.29 a bottle vs $5-$7 for goof off.

    Someone else would have. Remeber NT 4.0 (and I think earlier versions) had an emulation layer for RISC processors to be able to run 386 binaries. I'm sure it wouldn't have taken long for MS or the open source people to come up with something similar. At least if Intel does it, they have the inside knowledge to be able to tune it for best performance.

    I thought that the Freely available BSDs used Berkley FFS by default?

    One in the same or different? Or there are slight variations between the BSDs default FS? How does UFS2 compare to FFS with soft-updates?

    why do so many people designing such gizoms where text entry is important insist of laying out the 'keyboard' like "A B C D E etc"? I mean, come on people

    That is because the current line of UPS handhelds have a keyboard in that way. One reason for using an alphabetical keyboard vs qwerty is to slow down people and make sure they are keying in things correctly. Air Traffic Controllers used to use (and some still do) a keyboard called an ARTS keyboard. It is layed out in an ABCD format and the keys are in a grid and not staggered like a standard keyboard. Forcing the controller to slow down and pay attention when keying in data is essential to avoiding mistakes in the air.
