And, when your local debian mirror apt-mirror machine stops booting and just flashes the power button LED, you can take your array drives out, put them in a new machine, do a quick OS and apache reinstall, copy backups of configs in, and be up and running again in about 30 minutes...
Actually... since banks are publicly owned/traded corporations, wouldn't one just need to get enough voting rights on blocks of stock (either thru purchase or delegation) and have a share holders vote on it?
The corporate elite simply hop in their private jet and go wherever w/ o scans, pat downs, etc. They even have in flight food and drink service, enough legroom, and probably get to band the stewardesses...
Any job that can be automated will be automated. Machines don't get sick, they don't take holidays, and they don't complain. Most important to business is the fact that they're cheaper.
Tell this to the Coke machine in the hall down from my office. It randomly doesn't take money. Sometimes, it will only take dollar bills and not accept payment with coins (75 cents per can). Sometimes, it will take 2 quarters, but not 3... and many times, when it is working, it is empty by 10am (usually start of the semester).
How is that not like taking holidays or being sick? The being empty part I can (almost) live with, but the other 2 are just like an employee with bad attendence or work ethic.
So perhaps it would be better to do what (some) corporations do for scholarships/tuition reimbursement. They pay at the end of the term if your grades are acceptable. After you graduate, you are obligated to work for them for X months per semester if they have an open position you qualify for.
I know a few folks that have paid for nursing school, nuke med, and radiology tech this way, starting out as janitors, nursing aides, or couriers working for a hospital (HCA before Columbia bought them out, Columbia continued the program after buying though). As bonus for the employee, the payments weren't taxed, and they had guaranteed jobs where they could continue on their retirement plan. As a bonus for the hospital, they had a guaranteed nurse coming in when nurses were in high demand.
Even better is that the program wasn't limited to health careers/degrees - they were willing to pick up my tuition when I was doing an AS in programming/systems analysis. I ended up refusing the first check and removing myself from the program due to the Columbia buy out and getting a job working at the college I was attending, but if I had stayed in I would have had a good job and be 5 years away from having my 30 years in...
Assuming government paid healthcare expanded, or even just staying wtih the current VA hospitals, the same could be done for all health care positions, as well as various finance/accounting jobs, IT stuff, etc.
Strangely enough, my little small town coffee shop (one of two in town, neither are a chain) *is* a free book box. They've got shelves full, feel free to come in, get some coffee, take a (paperback only) book home. And next time you come in for your coffee, feel free to return it, or bring some other books or magazines in. They have a good assortment of hard cover books, but those aren't allowed out of the store...
Heck, I had a gun taken and pawned by someone w/o permission - they gave me the pawn ticket to get it back. Reported it as stolen, provided the PD w/ a copy of their drivers license and SSN card, no results. Did get the gun back from the pawn shop... but barely.
I imagine though that the only way to locate things (GPS wise) would be for a smart phone w/ location services to report back to teh DB that "gee, I was at this location and I noticed an access point with the MAC of xxxxxxx... nearby"

But the original TF was a Quake(World) mod, so it had a very large fan base before going commercial....
Unless the old version you are sticking with is a LTS release (10.04 in my case). Of course, when that is no longer supported I'll switch back to Debian on my desktops (never left it on my servers).
I use folders and filters to manage my listserv subscriptions, redirect mail from my students (must have course number in subject), flag things from my boss, etc. On the first of the month, I take anything that is more than a month old and archive it off the imap server and into a local folder.
I work at a college, and I have a few targets hung on my cubicle wall... no human shapes, but small groups from 22s and a FN-FAL.
When they were first seen by law enforcement (a Fed from the Dept of Ed and a campus cop) they were both interested in learning how to shoot better, since their qualification targets usually look like a shotgun was used as opposed to their duty pistols...
Heh. My daughter just got a cell phone for her birthday...
Her first call? Some USMC gunnery sargent looking for some private who didn't show up for shipping out... I took the phone from her, explained what happened to the nice gunny, he apologized for bothering us, and whished us a happy day.

And yet the manufacturer of the gun the robbers used can be sued... (has happened)
Yup, I can defend myself against the common street thug...

Which is why many air port magazine stands have more porn on them than the local "alternative lifestyle" book/coffee/music/clothing store?
Or better, pull a Ralsky on 'em... http://slashdot.org/story/02/12/06/1554227/howto-annoy-a-spammer

Pretty sure they don't want the coffee back after you've finished it ...
Librarians are the proto-geeks, proto-DBAs, and proto-sysadmins.
Not to mention most are female, quite a few single, and quite a few good looking. Heck, there is even a subset where all 3 attributes apply!

The word "ubuntu" is found is several African dialects, its litteral translation is "person who can't install Debian or Slackware".

As Linus stated in "Revolution OS" - if Gnu makes a distribution, they are free to call it Gnu/Linux ...

The Steyr AUG is very reliable, no issues. However, the American made knock offs...

Second this - I've been a long time linode customer, although I don't use it for VPNs I have used it as a squid proxy tunneled thru a SSH connection.
