    Been seeing a lot of FN-FAL/L1A1/SLR types in the pics/news, as well as a smattering of CETME/G3/HK

    Of course, if MS were broken into 2 different companies (one for apps, one for OS) the apps side could develop Office for Linux, etc. and possibly the rest will follow (much like Mac)

    How is this worse (or better) than Lucy bragging to Ethel about the new fur coat Rickey bought her during the Big Sale at Macy's?

    Honestly, if I am gonna have to watch ads with my TV I'd rather them be "in line" like this as opposed to 1/3 of the timeframe with much louder sound levels, etc. Or those annoying corner "bugs" that hide 1/4 of the screen...

    Most of what I see hosts files used for now is to "null route" (direct to 0.0.0.0) known bad hosts.

    I do the same on my computers, but instead of "known bad" hosts I block various ad servers

    Of course, the server to server communication all runs on 25 still..

    Easy enough to get around by requiring 2 apps from devs who want to use GPL stuff - the binary app, and the source app as a tarball or equivalent. Sorta like using "apt-get source packagefoo"

    I don't have anything to test with, but if you are doing NATing and forwarding, are there any ports that show up as open when you port scan the device?

    I also recall at least Germany having a problem with a government that systematically rounded up what they considered undesirables and putting them to death...

    The 2nd amendment isn't about hunting, self defense, or casual target shooting - it is about the ability for the citizenship to revolt against the government.

    Ubuntu does a similar thing but it remembers the MAC address for network devices, using a new ethX reference for each new MAC address.

    Not a big deal on a desktop or laptop, but if you use removable drives (like we do for the Linux class I teach) it can cause issues as students move from one workstation to another with their portable installs on usb drives.

    Even if monetary costs are equal, F/OSS stuff may be a better business decision for the community.

    Example - A college can pay $75k per year for an Angel or Blackboard license, and host it locally (or contract the hosting out to Angel/BB). Or, they can adopt a F/OSS solution like Sakai, and instead of paying $75k/yr to a corporation outside of the area they can pay $75k/yr for a programmer to maintain and enhance Sakai for their needs. Dollar costs are the same. However, by hiring the programmer, that improves the local economy and keeps that money local, as opposed to sending it out of area/out of state/etc.

    Last November as usual we had to show "a state issued picture ID". Several of us in the line were showing our concealed carry permits - state issued, has a picture w/ name and address on it, meets requirements.

    If I ever have to fly again, I think I'll use it there too....

    Ringing cell phones became a distraction in my class, to the point where I instituted a new rule - if a students phone rang, I got to answer it for them. To be fair, I allowed that if my phone rang one of them could answer it...

    Hello? No, John isn't available right now he's in class. No, this is his instructor. Care to give him a message?

    One of those to show that yes, I really will answer the phone for a student is all it took to have phones put on vibrate or turned off before class.

    Very reliable - just flip it over, use a second disk as a guide for where to punch the hole, and punch the hole using a hole puncher.

    Of course, when the 45 minute audio tapes came out I was all happy about having 50% more data storage, but the new tape stretched too much for data use...
