Is a Linux port planned? I don't care wether it's Transgaming working to make it a "5" on WineX or a company doing the port or Blizzard themselves providing a Linux client, but it is one of the first game I feel like I'm gonna miss:(
If you haven't already, I suggest you try K3B for CD/DVD burning. It's a really great app. I personally find it *superior* to any commercial/proprietary offering.
As for dev tools, I think I work faster in KDevelop than in V. Studio, probably due to the integration of all those tools...
I'm not saying that *you* will find those software better than your proprietary alternatives, but I erally suggest you give a try, if you haven't.
If they could bring the complete KDE network transparency with the power of konqueror to my windows at work, I'd be really happy...
I can't install linux on the machine, but I know I could install KDE on windows...
It could also be seen as a "try-before-you-jump", a la Knoppix.
It could use the same desktop setings in an environment where SOME machines must still run windows...
It would be cool, +5 Geek Factor
explorer.exe has caused an error and will be shut down
But really, opening file with fish:// from any program is worth it by itself...
Windows user could use Quanta and Kate
2 different desktop (philosphies etc...), 1 set of apps that behave the same (Pan + KMail + OO.O + KDevelop + Mozilla + K3B + Gimp + Kate etc..., and it all looks/behaves the same)
Wouldn't that be a better thing than killing one desktop (that 50% of people actually prefer, approximately)??
Quanta should be fully WYSIWYG by 2004 (end) too:)
But as many other people said, "set-top" box are one of the key point. If you're building a sub-500$ box to play DVDs, Mp3s/Ogg Vorbis and record TV shows, you won't spend an extra 150$ for Windows... And since you'll learn how to install linux in the process, why not try it in a dual-boot setup in your main desktop...:)
It's been integrated in Quanta, which is *very* active. Try the latest from HEAD and be amazed. I think some important features will be missing for 3.2 (KDE is already in feature freeze I believe) but give it less than a year and it's better than dreamweaver!
The main difference, I think, is that you are in control of your OS. If you want, you can change any part of the source you don't like, re-compile, and there you go, features you needed.
Of course, this isn't simple like that, but still, it is *possible*
This means that the "monoculture" doesn't really exist. Everyone can change configuration, default apps etc as they please, because they're in power of their system. I often read that having many choices (many kernels, many WM/DE, many apps that do the same things, etc...) is "hurting linux adoption on the desktop". I won't argue this, I let you be the judge, but one thing is sure, it eliminates the "monoculture" effect.
With windows, you're pretty much stuck with windows, and what Microsoft thought was best for their software / their shareholders / their clients / their bank account. Yes, windows can be configured in many ways, but you are not in *total* control of your system. Microsoft is.
Therefore, if 100% of the computers would run on GNU/Linux, I don't think it would be as bad as 100% running on Windows (or Mac OS, or any closed-source, proprietary OS) because even though you can install a distribution and be happy with it, you could always build it yourself, change what you want. When you need a feature, you *can* add it...
Not having done anything wrong does not mean not having anything to hide
Simple as that.
There's a shortcut on the sidebar, afaik.

I've been pleasantly surprised. :)
Walt was known to "denounce" gays and communists..
I'm glad they employ people, but know what, 1000s of smaller shop, with higher value, could do just the same.
Microsoft-free
...and other I probably forget
Disney-free
McDonald-free
Coke-free
Nike-free
This is great news. Disney is pure evil, it just deserves to die. :)
thief!
Ok ok, copyright infringer..., whatever.
You sure know how to advertise your sig haha
It doesn't change ANYTHING, it is not a eula, but a simple re-distribution license.
In a sense, GPL gives more freedom to the user (albeit less to the developper who wants to build on top of community effort for a profit...
As you know, there are many other GPL libs, and I'm sure some of them are installed on your (GNU/Linux) computer :P

(t'was easy, sorry)
I'm curious, really... although I don't use IE, of course.
You're thinking of Montreal/Quebec (that was the canadian geography part :P)
GTK is LGPL
Qt is GPL on Linux (dual license, actually, one of which is proprietary)
Most people who complains about Qt license is because it's *too much* Free (cant write closed apps)
I actually agree with you, but for many people (myself included, I guess) using a computer *IS* using a GUI...
always on top
there you go :)
Easy read/write access on a dual-boot (linux+win) machine...
:)
Last time I checked, no.
Wouldn't that be a better thing than killing one desktop (that 50% of people actually prefer, approximately)??
All we need is way to make them behave the same as the QT ones (Cancel/OK, for example) and I do not see any problems....

There's actually a (very funny) joke about this in an episode (the episode with the "special people olympics")
It's already better in many case...

Anyway I think my point was made by now :P
