Stay away from VBScript, its very out of date at this time.
Best work with Powershell, it has deep integration into Active Directory and Exchange (as well as OS, WMI etc). Its quite simple to get a script up and running, and its widely supported. It comes built into the OS in Windows 2008 onwards, for 2003 its available as a download.
Not the case any more. I transitioned our firm from Blackberries to iPhones a year ago, and its been a roaring success. Its just so much more user friendly, even our technically inept users who had trouble using some of the functionality on RIM devices took to the iPhones very easily.
Add to that the numerous apps available and its become the most popular business tool in the company, even more so than laptops.
I know of other firms as well that have moved over with similar results. So I dont think it can be said that business is the sole domain of RIM
As an IT manager myself, I'd have to say this is a very reasonable request. Firstly most places wouldnt allow you to run your own server on the network, so I'd say your IT team is being quite generous. The responsibility for the network and its security is the IT departments, should a hacker break in and steal personal records who would be blamed ?
In an environment like a hospital which is subject to numerous government IT regulations (at least in the UK and US) having a non secure system is a massive liability, it would immediately cause an audit to fail.
Psyop is a motion graphics studio not an ad agency. Agencies typically hire other places to do ad's (places like Psyop, Imaginary forces, R!ot).
Theres tons of other stuff that the agency does like media buying, campaign management etc...
The net neutrality part of it looks like FUD being spread by the uninformed pure and simple.
The SDK allows you to differntiate between WiFi and EDGE data connections; so theoretically
any VOIP app should be able to select the WiFi connection over cellular data.
As for applications like web browsers having no ability to run backgrounded would make them moot unless you dont
use any of the other apps like mail (and dont receive phone calls) (I do hope they reverse this; I'd really like an Adium port for the iPhone)
For the most part everyones just making a mountain out of a molehill. The iPhone is not the most popular phone or software platform on a phone. Its a niche market at the moment and its long term effects on the market remain to be seen.
Your calculations are way off (unless youre thinking of very large, very square hard drives)
Assuming that the diameter of the disk is the same size as the width of the drive (3.5 In), best case :
The numbers should be Pi x (3.5/2)^2 - Pi x (Radius of the motor spindle)^2
Your numbers are an order of magnitude off.
Im not sure you understand the difference between FC and SCSI. SCSI is best for direct attach systems. However if youre building a SAN, FC's capabilities are leaps and bounds beyond SCSI. (iSCSI is getting close, but the fabric is based on Ethernet and is bound by it)
That may be true in the US.
However in Asia and Europe a lot of users are on MSN (all my friends in the US are on AIM/iChat while my European and Asian friends are split between Yahoo and MSN)
Actually its very simple to buy servers from Dell without operating systems (A variety of OS choices are offered including Redhat and Microsoft server OS's)
So your theory of server sales counting towards Windows is patently false.
i dont think so. Pixar moved to mainly apple gear for their workstations a while ago while rendering is a combination of macs and x86 PC's.
in the video world only a handful of applications remain available only for IRIX, chief among them products from Discreet/Autodesk. And even those are poised to shift to Linux on x86...
Well, its not like Microsoft makes x86 processors. In fact Windows used to run on non-x86 hardware not so long ago (WinNT for Alpha anyone?)
now if they were using mac os x to run the demos that would indeed be news...
The boards i tend to buy usually have had better hardware than the discrete solutions i had before. Its pretty easy to find a good board with a Gigabit Ethernet NIC, 6.1 Audio. And if you dont want to use a feature you can always disable it in the BIOS.
i disagree. Photoshop is the most essential element in workflow. Nikon Capture is a great tool, but after doing some tweaks in it, all files are exported out to Photoshop (TIFF usually)
after that any retouching you need to do can be done. Honstly telling any other industry folks that you work your images in anything other than photoshop will earn you strange looks. is it an ideal tool? no. But its better than anything else out there for the job, proprietary or FOSS.
As a professional photographer, i frankly prefer Nikons own RAW filter, its definately better at processing RAW files than Adobes.
i had never assumed that the DMCA had anything to do with the RAW processing, as most camera manufacturers have thir own proprietary RAW formats. In the print/prepress world proprietary software and hardware is the norm, not the exception. Having to spend money on an inexpensive plugin is hardly a major inconvenience. (Not to mention that i got the software bundled with my camera)
i have versions 6 and 7 on different computers in my office and have no trouble hiding the toolbars.
simple directions follow:
1) right click anywhere on the button bar
2) click on "Add remove buttons"
3) Clear the check mark next to PDFMaker x.0 (where x is your version of Acrobat Pro)
Thats it... it doesnt reappear unless you reverse the process.
Just because its not userfriendly doesnt mean its malware...
They dont allow unauthorized software to be installed on their systems...
we're doing a commercial for Xbox and couldnt send them clips in Apple Quicktime format (they arent allowed to install Quicktime!)
probably the work of a freelancer or outside shop... you'll be surprised how much of their creative work (print, sound, video etc) is done outside of MS
Actually, the Opteron and Athlon 64 are better compared to the new Nacona Xeon processors with Intels version of x86-64 called 64 EMT.
When you consider the number of shipped Xeon systems the Opteron numbers start to pale.
I'm not sure how recently you saw the stats but as of 8PM CST Fastrack leads by a slim margin.
Also i believe Edonkey was started by a New York firm; more information can be found at the link in the main post.

Well thats simple... Get a Rastafarian account (preferably a retired Olympic Limboer!)

Not to rain on their parade, but most laptops i've seen only have Bluetooth as an optional extra which most non technical folks end up not getting.
