    that's already the case in most places, you're going to get cable TV from one provider and you're going to get phone service from one provider, and maybe you can get internet via phone or via cable provider.

    at one time my employer (30 people) had a windows-only vpn and so my home Linux box was an outsider with the only interface to work world the exchange web server. But then they went to Citrix Metaframe for added security of data and higher protection from malware that might be on end user's home machines. So now via citrix client my home machine and laptop are first-class citizens on the corporate net. You really should get your employer to look at all the benefits of Citrix (assuming that for now you're not going to convert them to GNU/Linux as the main backend 8) )

    why the Java market, it's everywhere. of course, Sun hasn't made a thin dime off of it, but the market sure went for it.

    yeah, we could put it next to the "raising racism as a smokescreen instead of discussing real issue" mod. Today I received a call from a recruiter in S. asia, could not understand him at all, even though I work with people from S. asia with heavy accents. If I had called for help with an urgent IT problem and been connected to someone speaking as he did, I'd be an unhappy customer.

    Sun hasn't embraced open source, they only give away that which hasn't made them money and for which they are desperate to get more community input. (including Java). And note that opensolaris is not Solaris, two different operating systems. Sun is in trouble, and they're floating ideas to try to get some mind share they lost years ago.

    rather than looking at binding energy, why not just look at relative abundance in the universe of elements? Carbon (4,600 ppm) only ten times as abundant as sulfur (440 ppm). Nitrogen is absolutely as essential as carbon and oxygen, and is 950 ppm. Silicon at 650 ppm is still "abundant".

    "rare" is relative term, high mass stars can have sulphur and silicon in their core. There are billions of those in the universe. Just like there are high chlorine content stars, big universe, lots of possibilities.

    nonsense, sulfur can form chains and hugely complex molecules of any length, and chlorine and arsenic can take the place of oxygen. Saying genetic code has to be based on building blocks of amino acids is just saying all life must be earthlike life, a ridiculous assertion given the severe limitations of sets of data on the subject.

    despite claims in primitive societies, and societies where sexual intercourse outside of marriage is forbidden, there is no authoritative scientific source that claims such a thing is possible in humans. The offspring would have to be female, and I don't think the idea of a transvestite Jesus will fly in most Christian circles.
