I just got a new Icom 703+ and purchased a 18aH 12V SLA battery for it. I use a Par EndFedz 10/20/40m dipole thrown up into a tree and can talk to anyone worldwide. Now, this doesn't cover local 2m/70cm frequencies, but it's a great setup to take backpacking which doesn't weigh too much.
I use the bigger battery because I want as much operating power at that 10W I can get. You can downsize to a smaller 7-10aH battery to cut weight. But keep in mind you may also cut your transmit power too. The Yaesu FT-817 is also a fine choice and in my opinion smaller and lighter than the 703, but you can only do around 5w out max. It comes with a battery back built in though.
The commercial that I saw for bing was the most horrible commercial ever. Made me feel like if I searched for something that I'd get everything back that I didn't want to see as a result and nothing I was actually looking for.
I'm one to keep a car till it falls apart. I feel this might be a problem with a hybrid of sorts due to the battery life. I heard it rumored the battery replacement is a significant cost of the vehicle...not something I would want to deal with I don't think...
Can't say I'm suprised this happened at all really... seems noone else has problems fixing security while moving forward in developement and backwards compatibility.. *coughlinuxcough*
I sit on my butt on a computer all day long, when I get home I don't even want to look at one let alone be on it. Sometimes it's nice to hear questions and answers not pertaining to computers for a while... you know have a nice intelligent conversation, something few people do anymore:P
Seems thats somewhat the case with Realtek. They had a huge showing with the RTL8139 series chip released to the Open Source Community, however their chip RTL8180L for wireless is falling through the floor. It's a part binary part source module, that wont run on a kernel greater than 2.4.21, and uses the private extentions(iwpriv) instear of the regular ones (iwconfig). Numerous e-mails have been sent from the lq.org community and no response at all. Theres a large thread about this, and when I say large, I mean large....
816 replies, and 100947 views large...
Seems as if Realtek doesn't want to release the source... if they did... they might make big bucks with it. Thats ok, not our loss.
I got my card working with slackware... though I think I am gonna ditch it, works like crap anyways..
Slack is the oldest active Linux distribution, however it's worth noting that Slackware is a distribution of Linux and not a distribution "based on" Linux like many others.
mmmm yeah... I messed that one up... maybe off topic but let me fix myself..
"when you see 8 guys walk into a party with one ugly girl you'll be wishing you went elsewhere"
the guy to girl ratio is horrible.. haha
Yes yes you say that now, and I did when I first got here, but when you see 8 girls walk into a party with one ugly girl you'll be wishing you went elsewhere:-P
But if you're here for learning good for you, i wish you luck.
There ya go, I can handle that;-) I know nothing thats involved with it to tell you the truth, and if I had wanted to know I would have changed my major, but thanks for the information.
How is this -1 Troll? Sometimes I think the people don't look at what they're modding... of course I have no knowledge of what is going on with orbital mechanics, I'm a fucking Networking major, what do I care, just simply stating something that could possibly be done if there ever was a problem with it. No I'm not worried about it so whatever. -1 this too if you like, I felt it was 100% underrated.
Seems to be getting more and more cluttered up there... even though the old ones come down eventually. Why not set them for a collision course with the sun?? Incinerate them for less space junk floating around out there, seems like a logical solution.
Kinda like what mars is gonna be like in 10 years... dead rovers all over.. haha
Yeah, someone was thinking ahead when they decided on that one. Seems to me this might become a real problem, and with Microsoft wanting to make the BIOS more Windows compatible I can see hardware sales of motherboards through the roof because of viruses that just simply kill them. Someone didn't eat their Wheaties before they got to the office that day...
AHAH! I knew it, they're slowly releasing the martian pics that they didn't want us to see! Like in the pepsi commercial, the little aliens stealing the wheels off the rover. I wonder what else they'll show us now...
I am drunk... I read this and though it was quite interesting and it actually snapped me out of being drunk for a bit... but anyways, Happy St. Patrick's Day!!
As I should have a small friends list here. The list of contacts of real people on my cell phone is much much larger I assure you. Just goes to show I don't sit on my ass on the computer all day:-)
I'm a contributing member of the linuxquestions site, and I personally thing Jeremy (the owner/admin) is doing a wonderful job of keeping the site up to date and adding new things. Most recently they showed their support at linuxworld with other companies and.orgs. THe addition of the wiki will further increase what they're trying to get across. I've found threads on there that I havn't found anywhere else on google or mailing lists, and most everyhting I've needed has a solution. Responses are fast, and the people are very nice, I'd reccomend it to anyone with questions.
Now keep in mind they don't just do linux, theres Solaris forums, Programming forums, AIX, distro forums, and many many more such as hardware forums, networking and a very nice HCL. I guess this is turning into an ad but I'm just trying to help out cause a little bit I guess. You'll find me there as the user Astro

one more reason to stay on the fscking computer! bah!
there's war driving... war chalking... now War Kayaking, and war orbiting? I can see where this is going...

I wonder how long it takes them to release to the public the pictures they DON'T want us to see?

Feels a little bit humbling... I feel so small and insignificant :-\
