So what happens when the virus scanner either deletes a critical windows file or itself cause it _thinks_ it knows what it's doing... I can't wait to see how many fixes come out for this thing.
He deserves at least some compensation for this. You take him to court and don't find him guilty, then leave him out in rain with no clothes. Now I'm sure he's got enough to help himself but somecompensation for what he's gone through would be more than enough. I think the fact that I wouldn't be guilty would be enough for me.
Well in that case I'm hoping that they look at it as well. I'm not being tortured with liberal arts stuff for nothing then! And especially 4/5 years in this place...dull brick buildings, tons of asian/deaf folks all over, a 7:1 ratio of men to women... BAH and snow 90% of the year. This degree better be worth it!
To me I would think that a college degree is about the same as certifications. When I get my degree at least I won't have to come back and renew it, only maybe the occasional refresher course to keep me updated on new technology. Even then I'm hoping that my employer will at least go halfers on it with me. But don't get me wrong I'm not cutting down certifications. I would have almost gone that route rather than paying $30,000 to go to RIT (At least there would be more girls and I wouldn't be freezing my nuts off every winter). Might be cheaper in the long run?? I shall never know...
The bad thing is they have another almost exact copy of the Spirit in orbit now ready to touchdown... Should be interesting to see if this one crashes too.
aaah yes stage crew.. I remember when I did that for my high school. WE did the lights and sound for the plays. Our equipment was rather old and our intercom systems went out every now and then as well.... usually at key times in performances of course. Our intercoms were a headset type setup that was hard wired to the walls to a unit up in the booth. The ehadset connected to a little waist box as well with a call button and volume controls. Not sure on the model or brand but it was _mostly_ reliable. We always had problems with wireless mics as well... As for the headsets, there was a large box on stage... size of a golf cart approximatly... we called it the reactor. Anytime you'd go near it with a headset... bzzzzzzzzz you'd be cut off completely and the box would start buzzing almost. I probably have cancer or something now from being by it so much:o\
It seems as if lots of us, country wise are having problems landing something on the surface of mars. No pathfinder, lost beagle 2, possibly another lost rover in the process... Is there something we're missing here that Mars is hiding from us? Satellites seem fine around the planet but as soon as something lands it dies.
Mars: "Pathfinder...check, beagle2...check, Spirit...in the process..."
Unknown on what the penny was made of, and whether it struck face on or on the side. I couldn't find that specific episode on the site, however maybe it's talked about in the discussion forums. Otherwise there may be other resources for this which I'm going to try to look into later this evening after my hell of classes for the day.
O_o hmmm I've had a couple experiences that people say I'm lucky to be alive. I guess thats why my friends say "I keep telling myself my friends are normal..." When they see something I've done.
But back on subject, there was an episode of Myth Busters where they tried the myth of dropping a penny off of a tall building, to see if it in fact would kill someone if they were hit by it. This was done with a specially fitted barrell on a gun that would fire a blank and expel the pennie toward a flesh target (not human of course). Even at an extremely high velocity the penny would not even break the skin strangely enough, I believe at the speed of a bullet but I can't be sure. Interesting either way, these pictures just reminded me of it. But wheres the test on the water mellon? *grin*
Thats interesting. Where I work back home (I'm at school now) at an ISP our main customer base is older folks, I'd say 50+ in the farming community. A lot of them are leaning towards the accelerated dialup options out there like one that we provide. They don't need the sometimes large payment for broadband which they aren't going to use all the time, maybe say once or twice a week for viewing pages and downloading e-mail. Interesting to see where this is going.
Yes I agree, and I'll also be one to admit, porn on dialup SUCKS... (not just people in the pictures:P) On a general college network/networks porn is a large issue... I'd say 90% of the bandwidth I use is outgoing on DC++ for people downloading some of my 30 or so gigs of porn. Music is another 5% to 10%... if you want proof have a look here.. http://www.tyrantanic.net/mrtg/aiwa/aiwa.tyrantani c.net_2.html (keep in mind thats a 10mbit connection to the rest of the network, just 100mbit local on the switch)
Also if you take into account all those popup ads advertising porn, or increasing penis size or what have you, you'd bet that MOST internet traffic is download of some sort, I'd guess porn. However there are plenty of other useful things to waste your bandwidth on.. like uhhmm... ok lets see here. For example when you hmm.. nevermind. I can't think of anything.
Now I didn't read all of the info on that page... but what happens if you're in a storm prone area and every other week your modem gets zapped? I'm hoping there would be some sort of surge protection. Also i notice that the power simply fluctuates a lot in my house, due to my ups beeping about it every now and then I'd hope that would be accounted for.
So how long before the come up with a solution that actually works? If they do there will be ways around it of couse...
our file sharing went down at school once for a few days and all you had to do was walk down the halls in the dorms and yell asking if anyone had such and such software/movies/music/porn, someone would stick their head out the door and you'd go burn it or run a cable down the hall
Well I was definitely skeptical at first, but the two movies I watched weren't that horrible. I now see where my career goes if I don't get good grades in my classes in college... I'll be sure not to make that mistake;-)
mmmm quiet computing sounds nice. With 8 fans in my case it would be nice to hear myself think once and a while. hmmm maybe this is why I can't do any work in my room, distractions distractions...... but only when the distraction sounds like a vacuum cleaner does it get annoying.
I have a Sager 2850 from a few years ago I bought off a friend. Very very good condition except the usual scratch here and there and general use and wear and tear. I plan to keep this as long as I can keep it running as it is a trusty linux machine...but my problem is that first off the battery is dead for the most part, lasting only between 5 and 10 minutes TOPS thought the charge indicator on the battery itself says it's full. Sager techs, generous enough to give me well out of warrenty support, told me to try to drain the battery fully, which was a problem when it wouldn't stay on for more than 30 seconds at one point. Finally this happened, drained, and I recharged it, but alas no more than 5 mins charge. I've looked for a replacement for my laptop battery from sager, their price being $120. my AC adapter has also went to crap that could be replaced for an extra $60 or so. WHen I purchased the lappy it had two adapters with it, the original one that came with it died after about a year and a half of my use, and the second one doesn't always fit very well into the plug on the side of the machine. I have to keep it propped up or something to get it to contact properly with the inside (Keep in mind this was the reccomended adapter from sager). Does anyone know where to get these old replacement parts for a little less money? I've looked around and didn't find much to help me on my sacred quest.:o\
BTW, I'm not upset at all with this lappy...it has definately been a workhorse over the years. The previous owner taking it to and from work every day and my using it in school as a trusty slackware box. I would definatly reccomend Sager to anyone wanting a long lasting powerful machine.
There were recent predictions that in X amount of years global warming would do significant damage to life... I guess we'll see. Maybe I'm not as concerned about the earthquakes cause I live in Rochester NY...Only shaking I get is when some drunk college kid falls down the steps at a party;-)
To me it just seems as if mother nature should be left a little hard to predict...and maybe it's not necessarily a good thing to be able to predict things like this. Having almost full control over things could be bad. I think we really need to learn how to control global warming or something of the such before predicting earthquakes. I mean think of it this way...there is an earthquake, a few people die or what not and we use our money to reduce global warming more. OR we spend money on trying to predict something that won't matter in say 100 years cause global warming will have killed us anyways. Some priorities need set I believe.
So about the first this this method of detecting them is ineffective, then they tell us that there were doubts about the %error that they would recieve from their measurements... oops forgot about that one, sorry mates.

"63,000 bugs in the code, 63,000 bugs,
Ya get 1 whacked with a service pack,
Now there's 63,005 bugs in the code!"

hehe...how does one solve this problem?
Why is it so impossibly hard to make an electronic voting system work right? I mean seriously... I honestly don't understand why it can't be done.
You mean they were actually thinking about Microsoft???

Well if they're looking to cut pr0n and stuff from P2P networks, count on that usage dropping a LOT.. ;-)

that was getting a bit old after scrolling forever... I was hoping there were some actual comments at the bottom half of this!
