    Yeah, but Batman'd be bright enough (and rich enough) to stock a good supply of kryptonite.

    Plus, Superman draws his powers from the yellow rays of the sun - and is useless at night. At least thats how it used to be in the comic. He also originally couldn't fly - just jump really high (tall buildings in a single bound).

    Superman's a clod. He just brute forces everything, he has no technique or skill or intelligence.

    Just watch Justice League. Batman, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern and the Flash will be ducking and dodging attacks left and right, then coming up with some innovative method to take out the enemy.

    Superman and Wonder Woman just take it head on and get plowed through a concrete wall, then get up and get smashed again, until they finally prevail.

    yes.

    i knew at least one guy who did just that, he also stacked ram chips and managed to get 640k of usable ram on his modified 64.

    64s were modded every way from sunday, everyone worth knowing in the day had at least a SuperSnapshot v4.0 in the cartridge slot.

    Painting, lighting.. I saw a lot of impressive things done to commodore hardware in the day. This isn't one of 'em.

    If the thing wasn't functional, and beyond repair, then he could be forgiven for gutting it and sticking in a flexatx based crap-rig.

    If it was functional, then may god have mercy on his soul for defiling it like that.

    The way the guy explained it to me, there are dozens of people who dont want him touching their computer.

    Then they cant figure it out (yeah, I know it's just turning on DHCP), and have to call him back to set it up.

    If the original work order isn't signed - then there's no proof he ever showed up at all, and the cost of rolling the truck the second time comes outta his pay. If it is, then the customer pays for the second call like he should.

    He really didn't care one way or the other, so long as the work order was signed.

    No need to dump all the anti-corporate conspiracy theory bullshit on the poor joe who gets payed 10 bucks an hour to hookup peoples homes.

    not sure. I just get better results w/UDF, and connected that with the fact that DVD uses it, and just assumed there's something about it to enhance streaming..

    better/faster error correction or bigger packets or whatever. or maybe its in my head.

    I never bothered to research why, I just know it works.

    xbox won't (as of yet) read an ISO9660 disc.

    So be prepared to reburn everything in UDF.

    Personally I always burn streaming media in UDF, anyways. It just seems better suited to streaming playback. But I'm sure most dont.

    Pretty freaky.. Konrad Zuse built the things out of tin cans and junk, and was in many ways way ahead of the giant megaprojects of the allieds..

    Lacked any form of branching instruction, though, as I recall.

    This is just a big pile of hydraulic logic that forms some gates, and ultimately a 4 bit adder. Thats hardly a computer, but pretty neat.

    We had a pneumatic logic kit bouncing around the electronics shop in high school.. I dusted it off and made pretty much the same thing, using compressed air. It was more fun to play with than 7400 series ICs and breadboards.

    Though I didn't machine the parts like this guy did. I guess thats whats impressive. The U shaped spill collector is novel, if sloppy. Dunno whats wrong with valves.

    Hydraulic/pneumatic logic is nothing new. Even if you call it "fluidics".

    You got it pretty sweet.

    If I want Comcast's high speed internet, I have to have the TV service too.

    As for living without cable, you're preaching to the choir. I was without cable for most of my life. I lived on the other side of a small river, and apparently the technical challenges getting a signal across that 12 foot wide stream were insurmountable.

    Fortunately, I was living just outside of Toronto, which boasts the best open air reception in the world - thanks to the CN tower being higher than everything else, and there being nothing sticking out of lake ontario to block broadcasts from Buffalo.

    When the cable goes out here -- we get 2 channels. PBS and Fox. With a roof antenna we'd probably get a couple more. Personally, I'd do without, I don't watch that much TV anyways. My family wouldn't be so understanding.

    I might miss MST3k, but then again I've seen 'em all 4 times.. (Why o why can't they make some new episodes? It cant cost more than 1.50$ in production costs.)

    and whether your OS is gui driven or cli driven is irrelevant. it's the use you make of it that is (or isn't) "mindless".

    i for one am sick of typing everything, and sick of the tendonitis i've developed from years of doing so.

    only do-nothing IT guys and admins brag about using a command line.

    i do however have a problem with linux becoming windows, because noone seems to be able to think of anything better.

    Do you know what POSIX is? Find out. Here's a free clue to get you started. Windows NT/2k/XP are all POSIX.

    Your average user doesn't know shit about whether fonts are antialiased or cleartype or whatnot.

    No, a desktop thats as easily configurable and usable for an average user as a windows or mac osx is.

    Not that I want to see linux become Windows - which seems to be where the momentum is. I would love to see it evolve into a truly superior desktop platform, through the creativity of the self-styled 'geniuses' coding for it.

    If Mac could build OSX out of BSD, why is linux still a server platform with a slipshod desktop grafted on top? I guess its the lack of a single vision and a focused effort to make it happen.

    Too many cooks. Oh well. It'll probably always be a good router or fileserver.
