So Vermont being one of the very few states in the country running a balanced budget and with a considerable "rainy day fund" (something to the order of $100 million) in the bank means they're "bleeding dry?" If only states like Alabama could be so lucky to "bleed dry."

And that was Kucinich, who now that I've read into some, is a bit more liberal than I'm actually comfortable with. Dean comes in at 87%, and he's a bit more inline for the most part, but I really wonder why he's been portrayed as being so extreme left, I don't really find him to be that way, but maybe I'm just further left wing than I thought. :)

Is religion really a religious issue though? Personally, I fall squarely into the atheist/agnostic category myself, but I'm a strong believer in marriage all the same.

I feel it's really one of those things that is more "the government has no real business telling you what is right or wrong" categories as it is highly subjective between individuals, and any government legislated ban is merely imposing majority rule while ignoring minority rights. Maybe this is just a subject where I simply have more libertarian feelings than on others, but that's just how I see it.

I do not subscribe to the theory that the United States deserved the 9/11 attacks because of our foreign policy; it was a heinous and cowardly attack that no nation on this planet deserves. But our foreign policy in the past year or so has done much to fan the flames of the same hatred. And for who? For what? Saddam Hussein? This is a third-rate dictator who writes romance novels in his spare time and can't even travel freely in his own country without three body doubles out of fears of being assassinated.
That is, without a doubt, one of the most insightful things I've ever read on Slashdot.

In all honesty, with a properly designed engine that keeps these issues in mind from the start of development, it's not that hard to be able to leverage whatever the hell you want. You have to write wrappers around your core code, which does take time, but it's completely possible. Hell, the Win32 implementation of SDL is mainly just a wrapper around DirectX. Graphics engines can often be ported between APIs with a simple DLL swap.

While I've never developed for GameCube or PS2, the fact that ports for/to the Xbox and the other two consoles happen fairly regularly with minimal delay between releases (PS2/XBox releases are often silmultaneous) is further indication that as long as your engine is well built, it can be ported with minimal headache.

DirectX is NOT the only option if you want leverage. It's the option that Microsoft has pushed however, and for that reason, it's become the "standard" of the gaming industry. In my opinion, it comes more down to software design and developer preference - and MS has successfully convinced enough developers that DX is "the" in thing, so that's what most people these days are learning. I don't think it has anything to do with either set of APIs being any more advanced or portable than the other.

Which is really off topic. The fact is, they're not just blocking games. The mandatory curbing of internet cafe hours is a bad thing as well. In the US they're not that big of a deal, but in many asian countries, internet cafes are some peoples' only available net access. What happens to people that have a work schedule such that late night/early morning would be the only time they'd have a chance to be online? I don't doubt that the government's intentions are good here, but the consequences go beyond those good intentions and are an impairment to others, and that's what I have a problem with.

Personally, I think Lincoln was an idealist, and one of those ideals was that the Union would stand, no matter what. I can agree with you, that some of the things he did are questionable now, but when seen from the perspective of trying to hold the country together when it's tearing at the seams, I believe that the logic behind it can be seen.

And as someone else has already noted, sending the army in to put down a riot is certainly not limited to Lincoln and well within reason, especially for a time before the police forces of today.

In your case, the cartridge was a little less than half the total cost of the printer. With Lexmark, they're generally DOUBLE the initial cost of the printer. All things relative I suppose. That and the fact that the C4x series are actually really nice printers for the money. Same quality print as the $700 1280 series, only real difference being that the C40 only prints up to 8"x10", while the 1280 can do full poster size paper.
