Can you search for the discussion? Again, it's just that I've never personally seen such a zealot.

It wouldn't tell you much, even if you were to find it. The problem wasn't the people in the discussion, the last one I remember was quite interesting, arguments from both sides with people who actually seemed to have thought about UI design.

The zealots were in the moderations, the comments bounce up and down. It's quite funny sometimes. Check out my original comment, currently at +1 (which is -1 really, due to karma bonus). However, it's had at least 5 or 6 +1's, and the corresponding -1's to bring it down. Yes, my comment was part cheeky, but even in the previous discussions I speak of the modding was just as silly. As you can only see moderations to your own comments, finding the threads would be pointless.

The only reason you can still see my first comment was the "let the down modding commence" gag. Otherwise, it would be at -1 now. :-)

Tell me about it. In the place where I am now, a bunch of devs pulled out the stops to get a release together. Lots of burning the candle at both ends, stress, email arguments etc. Then, some silly little blonde in marketing spends 4 hours in photoshop updating the product logo.

I've had this argument myself at least twice on slashdot, and my karma took a big hit from stepping away from the Apple Party Line. Strange point of view to have nowadays, given the 1984 commercial they did... ;-)

The argument against was that menus can do everything a right-click can do. My argument was "yeah, but the context menu is smaller and each of the options is directly relevant". Plus, right-click drag & drop is essential on Windows in order to get the correct operation i.e. copy or move. I reckon a lot of people do not understand the power of the right-click!

Because the Apple fan-boys have been arguing that one button is best for many years, so they have to continue to pretend that one button is somehow better. Even though they have basically caved in on this issue and realised that extra UI hardware might actually make the UI better to use.

Yes, a very small minority want to enforce their moral values on the whole world, but all sides have an equal measure of those arseholes. What makes the USA worse in this regard is that those with those beliefs are the ones in power and generally the public backs their crusade. On the other hand, radical islamists are in the minority. The whole Al Qaida thing is a western invention. For one, we were the ones who gave them that name in the media and they adopted it. They see the media facination with the fear profits as a tool, and they are perfectly happy to play along with it. However, the fact is that Bin Laden is not some far-reaching power house. In the videos showing him with his supposed army, they are either a group he is helping funding (just like western politics), or they were mercinaries hired for the day, specifically for that video! And no, it's not the same as shoveling bodies. That's why it's called a metaphor. Because you are comparing something with something else that is NOT THE SAME, but of similar concept.

Bullshit. Sure, it might technically be a metaphor under the definition of the language, but it doesn't allow you to make crazy statements without being torn apart. A rebuttal even. You were comparing a PR disclosure to the third biggest genocide of all time! Get a grip, I mean seriously! "Just following orders" IS a valid excuse when you were told to say X in a press release. It is not a valid excuse when you know that what you are doing is a crime against humanity!

Just because something is a similie or a metaphor, it doesn't mean it's an apt comparison. (damn, I've used debian too much, that came out as apt-comparison first time there!). I could say skiing is like raping someone. That's a similie, and it's completely bogus. Just like yours.

Just lacks melody in the lead vocal. You can't say that Michael Franti is not a musician (Spearhead, worth checking out, inteligent stuff).
