  1. spam & mail on How to Become A Spammer · · Score: 1

ex-spammer seems to not understand why they are worse than bulk mail. Email spam cost us money and bandwidth on our end, bulk mail dont. Besides, its much easier to sort out legitimate snail mails from bulk & they always carry some amount of legitimacy with it that email spam can never provide. Fp ?! :)

There, one more person gets silenced with MOD point abuse ! While i dont agree with the way mr.dot com ceo conveyed his message, he absolutely has a point.

I am not a big fan of Microsoft either (especially after this DRM initiative) but I do believe editors have a role to be NEUTRAL. Giving a spin to discussions right at the start is pathetic indeed. I am sure many more readers agree with this. Mod me down, but to me this is more like Civil Disobedience ! :) for i am already a subscriber.

Others who feel the same, pls leave a message in this thread. Thanks.

why has security been linked so much DRM these days ? Whenever i read an article on some kind of rights management initiative - there is almost talk about securing the PC. Security & DRM are two different things ! wih gates works on them individually.

Its amazing how the quote from Benjamin dude works so well here.
Those who are willing to trade freedom for security deserve neither freedom nor security

Seems like there always was , will be people trying to take away freedom under the pretext of security - even in computing !

  7. on the article on Dan Bricklin: Democratizing the Web · · Score: 2, Interesting

I think it is more about someone who has recognized the money to made in the small businesses rather than someone trying to "Democratize the web". And there is nothing novel about it as the article wishes to potray. The big guns are fairly well established on the web after dot com boom (as in explosion) and the next obvious target for the web development industry would be small business. Has anyone seen Microsoft ads lately on TV ?

Interland intends to lower that barrier by offering Web site hosting to small businesses for as little as $23 a month.
Hey, there are many more good hosts which offer hosting for price far lesser than that.

thats the best comment i have read so far.
I like the analogy he draws between car & computer science. Both the needs are not fundamental (as in food, water and clothing),
workers in both the industry have come under the effect finding cheaper alternatives being developed elsewhere across the world & both can be safely described as mature at the moment.
All that never spelt death for car, neither will it for software.

why not ? Assuming that the goal of each of these codecs is to produce music closest to the original in the best possible compression - it does make for a excellent yardstick. Such articles only make me think about how our ancestors could have imagined about all the things we take for granted today - like earth is round, there is land on other side of the ocean, sun and the moon causing eclipses that must have facinated their minds. Maybe one day our decendents might find a way to verify these speculations the same way we did for our ancestors.
